Yes, this is a remake of my previous story, but this one is going to be more well-written (hopefully) and easier to understand. If you see any grammatical/spelling errors, please do point them out. Constructive criticism is, of course, always welcomed. Comments are greatly appreciated. Please do note, though, that I need someone to post in between chapters so that I can post more. A list of the creatures/people that appear in each chapter (as well as a link to the chapter) is in the next post. Now, onto the story! ^-^

Chapter 1: An Important Message
April gazed down at the Stream that lay in front of her. Eggs of many different shapes and colors bobbed in the waves, gleaming in the pale morning sunlight. A Black Tienko in her lap meowed, rising up onto his hind legs and nuzzling her chin affectionately. The Magi smiled, stroking his sleek black fur with her hand. Purring in satisfaction, the cat licked April's fingers as she pulled her hand away.

April was a water Magi, with the knowledge of healing and a special bond with feline creatures. She had come to the Keep to study water magic when she was just fifteen. Before that, she lived at her uncle Wapiti's farm up in the Alasre Mountains. He raised Amagnae, Ibex, and Alpacas, all of which lived happily in their rocky surroundings. April hadn't always lived with Wapiti, however. When she was just eight years old, her mother had taken her to visit her uncle for the first time. After they had greeted Wapiti, he had agreed to show them around. While they were traveling the mountains around his farm, April's mother fell off of a steep cliff. The water Magi remembered hearing her mother's screams as she fell, echoing in the canyon. When Wapiti heard April's sobs, he turned around to see his sister at the bottom of the canyon, a small blue fleck in the dusty brown landscape. Ever since that day, he had taken care of April, making her feel important by giving her easy tasks at his farm.

A neigh behind the Magi startled her, and she turned around to face Nutmeg. Nutmeg was April's Chestnut Kirin, and was commonly used as her steed. The horse was munching on a pink flower, like she usually does. Smiling, April picked Diablo up from her lap and placed him into her satchel that always hung around her neck. Inside of the satchel was a white Winged Cat egg and a now annoyed Black Tienko. Hissing in annoyance, Diablo shrank to the back of the satchel and curled up next to the egg. Taking one last glance at the Stream, April walked over to her Kirin and patted her.

"Are you ready?" She asked gently. Living on a farm had its advantages - April could easily communicate with animals, but only ones that were used to her presence. An approving whinny from the Kirin told April that she meant yes, and so the Magi mounted her steed and got her balance. A flash of milky chocolate covered Nutmeg's vision for a moment. That milky chocolate was her rider's cloak, which was lined with light blue swirls at the bottom, neck, and hands. Those light blue swirls were traced by dotted golden lines. Kicking her steed's rump gently, the Magi whispered "Go" to the Kirin.

As they traveled to the Keep, they passed many other Magi along the way. April didn't recognize many of them, but the ones that she did, she waved to. When they finally reached the long halls of the Keep, April hopped off of her mount and walked inside. Pushing open the large wooden doors, she quickly threw her arm over her Kirin so that she wouldn't wander off. The doors creaked from age as they closed, slamming into the stone walls that encased them. April strolled the halls of the large building, wandering to the gardens in the back. Once she reached the back, she opened the door and walked outside again. A gentle breeze ruffled her blonde hair as she made her way to the Xand Bears. They were owned by the healers of the Keep, free for them to use for good purposes. What April wanted was a flower for her beloved Antelope Hare Jackalope, Daisy. April's Keep was located in the Callisto Islands, all the way across the ocean, but she could always take the ferry. Right as she knelt down next to the bear, a Magi ran up to her, panting as they reached April.

"April!" They gasped for breath, "I'm so glad I found you!"

It was Zach, April's childhood friend. He wore a bright blue cloak and black boots, with sandy hair on the top of his head. Chocolatey brown eyes looked at her intently as they continued.

"Someone told me to give you this note." Reaching inside of his pocket, Zach pulled out a tattered piece of parchment and handed it to April, "Sorry the paper's so beat up - Tawai here wouldn't ease up during the flight."

A black Gryphon screeched from behind him, stepping up and looking at his Magi before walking over to April and showing off his shiny talons.

"Wow, those are nice." She giggled, scratching his neck. April took the note from Zach's hands and unfolded it. The note read:
Dear April,
  • I haven't talked to you in awhile! Stop by the shop and we can enjoy some cider together.
Sincerely,
Remy

"Remy!" April exclaimed, "I haven't seen him in forever!"

She stood up, using the Xand Bears for support. Smiling, she nodded to Zach and mounted her Kirin.

"Thanks." April said as she made sure everything was in place.

"No problem." Zach replied as he walked over to the Xand Bears. He knelt down beside them like April did, muttering a few words and grinning as a white rose bush began to grow. As soon as one of the beautiful flowers bloomed, he sprinkled a little bit of water that was in his canteen on it and handed it to April. She blushed, taking it and smiling wide. White roses were one of her favorite flowers. Zach nodded in satisfaction, walking back over to his Gryphon and waving goodbye as he mounted it and flew up into the air.

April watched for a brief moment before kicking Nutmeg softly and heading for Remy's Inn. Traversing through the crowd of Magi that walked the stone sidewalks, April sighed in relief as she finally reached Remy's door. She hopped off of Nutmeg and let her mingle with the other creatures that stood there before opening the door and walking inside. Remy looked up from behind his bar and smiled.

"April!" He shouted, getting up and walking over to her with arms ready for a hug. After embracing her friend, April looked at Remy and opened her mouth to speak.

"So, how have you been lately?" She asked. Remy hurried back behind his bar, starting a brew of cider and turning around to face a customer. April smiled and sat down at one of the bar stools, making sure that her satchel was in her lap. Remy talked to the customer for a moment before turning around and gently grabbing a Direwolf egg and handing it to the young student. Thanking Remy and handing over the gold, the student looked at April and smiled, cradling his new egg and walking out of the door. Remy looked at April again.

"Good, and yourself?" He sighed, catching his breath.

"I've been well. Daisy has given birth to her first child - she's pretty ecstatic." Nodding a silent thanks as Remy handed her a glass of cider, she sipped it and waited for a reply.

"Really? That's wonderful!" He exclaimed. Remy and April's uncle had been close friends, growing up together as children. Once he heard about Wapiti's sister's death, he purchased a Antelope Hare Jackalope egg from someone and sent it to Wapiti to give to April. Once April heard about the egg, she was excited. This would be her second creature - Wapiti had agreed to go back to her previous home and retrieve her Winged Cat hatchling. On a sunny spring day, April woke to see a bunny hatchling sleeping next to her in her bed. From that day on, April and Daisy had a strong bond with each other.

The door swept open as a group of people in jet black cloaks walked into the Inn, one accompanied by a Hellhound. Remy looked up from April and called out to one of them, waving his hand in greeting.

"Nabendu!" Remy shouted, "It's good to see you."

As the man walked up to Remy, he shook his hand and smiled. April was uncomfortable with their presence. They were of the Dark Brotherhood. She herself had once been a member, but the tattoo has since worn away and so has her loyalty to the members. Once she found out what they did, she quit. The man turned to her and smirked, dark yellow eyes glinting orange in the dim light.

"Well hello little lady," He scoffed, "I remember you."

hmm...I like this one better, I feel there is more to April and know who Zach is!
there was one thing that bothered me though..
What April wanted was a flower for her beloved Antelope Hare Jackalope, Daisy. April's Keep was located in the Callesto Islands, all the way across the ocean, but she could always take the ferry. Right as she knelt down next to the bear, a Magi ran up to her, panting as they reached April.
the bold part just doesnt seem to fit in there...why is April thinking about the ferry/her keep? Can she not grow the particular flower she is after there?
April is a water Magi, with a unique knowledge of healing and has a special bond with feline creatures.
the coloured parts seem to read better to me? IDK

but nicely done!

:yarly: Also seems like April has an admirer.. hmmm lol, looking forward to more

Chapter 2: Haunting Memories

Post by freakazoid »

Chapter 2: Haunting Memories
Taking another sip of her cider, April flinched under Nabendu's firm gaze. His eyes burned, amused at April's hesitation. The water Magi sighed, knowing that Remy couldn't really do anything for her - they were his friends. Ugh, why did they have to come here? Right as Remy invited me, too. This couldn't have been worse. She thought to herself, Why me?

"Well Remy, I'd better get going." Remy turned around to face April and sighed. She scrunched her face in disgust - his breath smelled like alcohol.

"Aww, okay," He said sadly, "Come back sometime - I've got plenty of cider!"

April faked a smile as she stood up to leave, growling at Nabendu as he bumped her shoulder. A drunk man stepped in front of her, blocking the way to the door.

"Hey lil' lady! Wanna dance?"

Without waiting for a reply, the man whisked April over to him, laughing as she squeaked in surprise. Remy and Nabendu's fellows were chuckling over at the bar, making the water Magi glare at them from her position. A sudden sensation in April's feet startled her as she was lifted into the air, sparkles flying around her. Other drunk men whistled and shouted at her, clapping a beat as the man brought her to the ground to dance again. Nabendu scowled. He obviously didn't think it was humorous. Standing up from his current position, the dark Magi ignored the gasps from the crowd as he shrouded April in a dark magic. The water Magi was out of sight, not even her blue eyes visible in the black cloud. She screamed - the magic was actually hurting her. Wriggling and squirming, she attempted to get out but went limp as her energy faded away.

Finally released, April fell to the ground, and her cheeks blushed red in embarrassment, quickly making her way out of the shop. The door slammed behind her as April mounted her Kirin and left, not looking back once. She ignored anyone who waved at her, just wanting to get out of the place as fast as possible. When Nutmeg had reached the outskirts of the Keep, April told her to head for the ferry. Her Kirin neighed and headed in that direction, galloping at a fast speed.

"Hey, April!" A voice shouted from a distance. Oh great, what now?

Nutmeg slowed to a steady trot, and April looked to see a Gryphon gliding down from the sky.

"Zach." She smiled. He was exactly what she needed right now.

"Where are you going?" The air Magi asked, "Anyways, I wanna practice my floral magic without the Xand Bears. All you need to do is tell me a plant, and I'll try to grow it."

"Sure." April smiled and continued, "Apple."

Zach bent down to grow a plant, but then slowly stood up and smirked at April, who was trying to contain her laughter.

"Nice try. Seriously, though."

"Alright, alright," April giggled, "Daisy."

"I can't grow your rabbit-!" Zach complained, "Oh, wait, nevermind. I get it now."

He bent down and whispered a few words, smiling proudly as a daisy sprung slowly up from the ground. April gasped in astonishment.

"Wow...that's so cool!"

Zach laughed, even harder as Tawai stepped over and picked the flower. The Gryphon walked proudly over to April and gave it to her. Most of the petals were gone, but she didn't want Tawai to feel bad, so the Magi accepted it with a smile, sniffing it and gasping. Her smile widened as Tawai spread his wings triumphantly.

"He's a cutie," She said to Zach, "Definitely a keeper."

Zach laughed and nodded, patting his Gryphon on the back and glancing over at April.

"So where ya headin'?" He asked.

"Just back to my Keep," April replied, "You?"

"The Keep. Need to study up on my floral magics."

"Oh. Well, you'd better get going, then." April waved as Zach nodded again and mounted his Gryphon, soaring into the sky. She smiled and kicked Nutmeg, gasping as she began to gallop. The ferry was still aways away, but if they were fast, April and Nutmeg could make it before sunset.

Soon the water was in sight, and Nutmeg picked up the pace to the ferry. The oak rafts floated in the water, going up and down as the waves bobbed them. Heading over to the man who owns the ferries, April patted his shoulder from her mount and began to speak.

"Hello," She began, "May I ride one of your ferries?"

"Sure, little lady. That'll be 20 gold, please."

Smiling, April reached into her satchel and handed over the gold. The man nodded and led her over to a raft, which had a roof with designs of Krakens and Levithans and all other sorts of creatures on it. Nutmeg stepped onto it reluctantly - she had always been wary of these things. She whinnied in fear as the man let them go, hurrying to his Kraken. He quickly boarded his creature and they began for the Callesto Islands.

Chapter 3: The Arrival

Post by freakazoid »

Chapter 3: The Arrival
The sky was painted different shades of dark blue, purple, and black by the time April and her creatures reached the Callesto Islands, the moon boasting a beautiful pure white as it crawled across the night sky. Diablo was fast asleep in April's satchel, loud snoring noises keeping Nutmeg awake. April herself wasn't very attentive - she didn't even notice it when the ferry stopped on the beach and the Kraken chirped in satisfaction. The man that had given them the ride turned back to face them and shouted.

"You can get off!"

Smiling, she whispered a quiet thanks as the man helped her off of the platform, followed by her Kirin. April's Keep wasn't too far from here, just a brisk ride away. The sand under the Magi's feet was warm, and she giggled as a wave swept a few rocks out from under her feet and carried them into the ocean. Watching the water for a moment, April gazed at the churning black current that had moonlight dancing on its surface. Two cracking sounds nearby alerted Nutmeg, and her Magi glanced over to see two Leviathan hatchlings crawling out of their eggs. What are they doing here? She thought to herself, Leviathan eggs are usually laid in the ocean - unless a wave washed them up on shore. Even then, wouldn't they have fallen prey to the predators around here?

The water Magi walked over to the hatchlings - their color was a faint blue, so they must be Trench Leviathans. They both struggled in the sand, trying to swim into the water, but their serpent-like bodies just twisted and turned while making marks in the sand. April bent down and nudged one closer to the water, avoiding its sharp teeth and smiling as it swam away into the water. The other hatchling cried, and April pushed that one into the water as well. As soon as the Leviathan entered the ocean, they both swam away, their bodies disappearing in the dark water. The eggshells lay nearby - April picked them up and threw them into the ocean. They splashed once they came into contact with the ocean, sinking under it's surface as April mounted her Kirin.

"Do you think we can make it back?" She whispered in Nutmeg's ear, "Or are you too tired?"

A neigh from the Kirin told April that she could probably make it, and so they all set off to her Keep. Soon, they were off the beach and into the forest, ignoring the echoing calls of the Tylluans that perched in the trees. After a few Rewin distractions, April and her creatures finally reached her Keep. The large, castle-like building stood by a massive lake that was teeming with Koi. As the water Magi approached the door, she could immediately hear the meows that came from her Winged Cats inside. When she opened it, she was greeted by Deathdrop, the female Naga that sought safety in her Keep's strong stone walls. Deathdrop turned from lecturing a few hatchlings, all of which scattered away while she was distracted.

"April," Her smooth voice filled April's ears, "It's good to have you back. You've been gone for quite some time - what exactly were you doing?"

"Just visiting some old friends at the Keep." The Magi replied softly, giggling as a Winged Cat hatchling landed on her shoulder and licked her cheek. Deathdrop smiled and opened her slimy blue mouth to speak.

"Did you see that Zach boy? You two are like lovebirds that know the lyrics to the same song."

"Yes," April blushed, "But I have no romantic interest in him. He's simply my friend, and I'd prefer to leave it at that."

"Alright then. While you were gone, though, Alexander reported a couple new herbs growing in your garden. He's been keeping your Xand Bears company."

"Thank you for watching the Keep," April changed the subject, "I really appreciate it."

"Not a problem." Deathdrop blinked in amusement and slithered away, scolding a naughty Telvian Panther hatchling as it stumbled into the herb basket. Smiling, April led Nutmeg into the garden out back and then walked to her bedroom. The sheets were a night black with images of Koi laced onto them with silver. She had payed 3,000 gold for the blanket, but it was well worth it. The warm Alpaca-wool on it kept her warm at night. April noticed Kiwon, her first Winged Cat, lying on the bed. Her creamy white fur had shed onto the sheets, but the cat didn't seem to notice - or care.

"Kiwon," April sighed lovingly, scooping the Winged Cat into her arms, "You're silly."

Kiwon simply meowed and purred, closing her blue-green eyes in relaxation. Diablo stepped out from inside the satchel and onto the bed, stretching his tired muscles. After giving himself a good wash, he jumped off of the bed to join the other Tienkos. Laughing, April gently placed both her satchel and Kiwon onto the bed before reaching inside of her bag and snatching the Winged Cat egg. She showed it to her Winged Cat, who sniffed it in interest before batting at it with a soft paw.

"No, no. Don't do that." April scolded her gently, pushing the cat's paws away from the egg. Luckily, the cat obeyed her and simply hissed before curling up into a ball and falling back asleep. Smiling to herself, April walked over to her 'egg-warmer' and placed the winged egg into a basket that was filled with small blankets and pillows. She knew that her creatures were often considered 'spoiled', but April didn't mind.

Sighing in drowsiness, April removed her cloak and walked over to the small pile of clothes that Deathdrop had created for her. She said there was a 'sleep-wear' outfit in there somewhere, so April took off her pants and shirt and put on the soft clothing. Her Naga was especially talented at weaving clothing. The sleepwear was a steady brown color, and it felt very smooth to the touch. Rubbing her eyes, April walked over to her bed and climbed in, careful not to disturb the feline that cuddled up next to her.
