Chapter 36: On the Way
April opened her eyes groggily as the moonlight streamed through the window and poured onto her face. Muttering to herself, the water magi turned over and sighed, adjusting herself so that she could sleep comfortably. However, no matter how hard she tried, April just couldn't sleep.

April huffed, sitting up and rubbing her eyes. I'm probably just thirsty. After stretching for a moment and letting her eyes adjust to the dim light, the water magi got up and stumbled around. Jade had shown her the bathroom and the kitchen, but April couldn't remember where the kitchen was. Casting a simple light spell, April dragged the 'light rope' across the student keep until the orb flashed over something solid. The water magi couldn't quite tell what it was yet, so she dragged the light around a bit more to see what it was.

A table. Great.

Sighing, April wandered around Jade's keep for a bit until she finally found the kitchen, searching through the cupboards until she felt a glass. "Finally." April mumbled to herself as she pulled out the cup, filling it up with cold water from her magic and gulping it down. Why didn't I think of this when I was laying down? I could've just gave myself something to drink without having to get up...stupid tired brain.

April blinked as she felt a lump leap onto her stomach, opening her eyes to see a small direwolf puppy. "No, Sam, get down! Get down! Bad dog!"

Jade's voice rang in April's ears, mixed with the sound of a whimpering direwolf. April grinned and stretched on the couch, sitting up and rubbing her eyes. "Sorry about that." Jade said, holding the pup in her arms. "I didn't mean to wake you up."

"No, it's fine! I probably need to get up, anyways." April chuckled, bending over the couch to grab her boots. "Thanks for letting me room here."

"Sure. Hey - what's your name again?"

"April."

"Oh, okay. Bye April!"

April waved as she walked out the door, making her way through the Keep and out onto the dusty streets of the Merchant District. She decided to skip breakfast and head straight for the stables, requesting to borrow a pegasus.

As April reached the Alasre Mountains, night was falling. She was a little dizzy, but figured it was just from her long flight. After saying her greetings to her uncle and stationing the borrowed pegasus in a stable, April made herself comfortable in her old room and stared out the window for awhile before falling asleep.

"April? April! Dammit kid, wake up!"

I told you that you were going to be the next one. Nice story! Even though I am only on chapter 4 by now :/. It's actually good because I still have much to read, without needing to wait for updates xD

Chapter 37: Trance
"Shit...shit!" Rocky, stay here and watch April while I go get Vesta!" Wapiti dashed out of the house and ran over to a small cabin nearby. Visitors always came to tour the mountains - the fire magi had been staying there recently. He went inside hurriedly and looked around. "Vesta! Dammit Vesta, where are you?"

A beautiful magi with long red hair that fell to her waist poked her head out of a room, curious green eyes staring at the earth magi. "Well you could have knocked..." She said under her breath as she straightened up and walked out of the room. "What?"

"Just hurry, come with me!" Wapiti grabbed the woman's wrist and dashed out of the cabin and made their way back to his ranch. "April won't wake up! She's still breathing, but she won't wake up!"

Vesta's eyes turned from a gorgeous green to a confused gold. She cocked her head to the side, but shook her head and followed the earth magi inside and to April's room. An amarth alagos followed the two, squawking and landing on Vesta's shoulder. "Hush, Pele." Vesta cast a glance at the girl as she lay on the bed, silky soft hair sprawled out on the pillow.

"She was just fine yesterday, I don't know what happened..." Wapiti's former rushed tone was now a worried voice, trembling with fear as he folded his arms across his chest. "She just went to sleep...and now she won't wake up..."

"Well, you said something about a green crystalwing running around, right?" Vesta sat down on the bed and rested her hand on April's forehead, retrieving it as her temperature was fine.

"Yeah...but what would that have to do with anything?" Wapiti asked, looking down at the fire magi with concerned forest green eyes.

"It's their mating season. The males sing songs as they fly around to attract females. Here, go get me a book on the creatures of the Alasre Mountains. I'll show you."

Wapiti did as he was told and hurriedly grabbed a book off April's bookshelf and handed it to Vesta. Man...she is beautiful... The earth magi stared at the woman for a moment before blinking. No. Not now - April could be in trouble.

Vesta flipped through the pages with ease, smiling in satisfaction as she found the page about crystalwings. "Here, see?" She pointed to a description with her finger, looking up at Wapiti with her normal green eyes. The earth magi took the book from Vesta and read the short paragraph.
During late spring, the mating season of crystalwings begins. Males fly around the area and make shrill sounds, trying to attract females and impress them with their exquisite gems and feathers. These 'songs' have been known to strangely affect some magi, putting them to sleep for a few days or, in more severe cases, causing them to go deaf. However, becoming deaf from a crystalwing's song is a rare occurrence, and doesn't happen often.

"Deaf?!" Wapiti frowned, tossing the book gently onto the bed and looking at Vesta. "You mean she might be deaf?"

"Didn't you read it? She's just asleep, she'll be fine." Vesta chuckled, placing the book on a nightstand and looking back up and Wapiti. "Hey, well, I'm going back. Call me over if she starts acting strange."

As Vesta got up and left the room, Rocky called out and shoved Wapiti toward the fire magi. Wapiti gasped as he was pushed up against the fire magi. "Sorry!" He blushed, casting a glare at his gryphon before showing Vesta out. "Dammit Rocky, I told you not to do that!"

Wapiti smiled and patted his gryphon's neck. "She is beautiful, though..."
