Chapter 11: The Next Morning

Post by freakazoid »

Red, Red, Red. XD

Chapter 11: The Next Morning
Zach was running, where to, he did not know. The path that he was following winded through the Silva Forest, and it seemed as though it would never end. Finally, however, the air Magi approached a small pond that was supplied by a waterfall that fell softly. Bending down next to the water, he splashed some of the cool water on his face, looking down at the pond again to see reflections of his loved ones. Screams echoed in his ears as the peaceful image in front of Zach turned to a horror seen, the people he liked falling to the ground, dead.
A figure appeared before him, smirking and laughing at Zach's misery.
"No!" He wailed. "No!"

Zach blinked.

Looking around, the air Magi froze as a Dark Raiju stared at him, sparks of electricity bouncing off of its black fur. The tongue that lolled from his mouth dripped slobber everywhere, the wild dog barking softly and walking over to the Magi. Licking him softly, the Dark Raiju panted and sat down next to Zach, resting his head on the air Magi's lap. Zach looked at him with worry. Wh-what is this thing doing to me?!

"Deathdrop!" The sound of hooves echoed in the room as a Centaur trotted in. Alexander cast a glance at Zach, eyes shining with amusement as he noticed the Dark Raiju resting on him. "Well, I see that you've met Tempete."

Alexander walked over to the Magi, clapping his hands together excitedly to rouse the dog. Looking up happily, Tempete stood up and dashed over to the Centaur, jumping to lick his face. The Centaur smiled and patted him, holding out his hand for the dog to lick.

"You must be Zachery. April speaks of you often." Zach hid his blush behind what was left of his ruined mask as he opened his mouth to reply.

"Yes, I am. Speaking of April, do you know how she is faring? She did not appear well last night."

"No, I just came in here to ask Deathdrop that myself." Just after the Centaur finished his sentence, the Naga slithered out from April's room and looked at the two intently.

"Good morning Zachery." She smiled, stomping her staff on the ground in greeting. "How did you sleep?"

"I slept well, thank you for asking. Do you know how April is doing?"

"She is lying on her bed - you're welcome to go see her if you'd like. I'm sure she would appreciate the company." Deathdrop watched as Tempete and Zach walked into the room, Zach's Anaugi following them slowly. The Naga smiled, turning to Alexander and winking.

Kiwon looked at Tempete and the Magi as they entered the room, eying them warily as she kept watch over the two Winged Cat eggs. That reminded Zach of his Axolotl egg - he felt into his pocket to make sure it was still there (the costume had a pocket in it). A Winged Cat hatchling peered at Zach from behind a pile of books, meowing softly and hiding behind them again.

"April?" The air Magi said gently. He watched as the Dark Raiju - Tempete, if his memory served correctly - leaped onto the bed and indulged April with kisses. Kiwon hissed at him, flying over to the fish-tank on the other side of the room and resting on top of it. The one Koi that was in the tank watched the cat warily, the purple glow around it growing stronger.

"Yes?" A blonde head emerged from under the blankets, ocean blue eyes that were normally bright and happy, dull and in pain. Dry blood rested on her face, the scratch from a different Raiju residing under her eye. It agonized Zach to see his friend like this, but he kept walking toward her until he was close enough to sit on the bed. Tempete looked at him briefly before hopping down onto the floor and wandering over to the Koi.

"You feeling okay? You looked pretty bad yesterday."

"Yeah - I'm fine. Just a little worn out." April's voice was hoarse, hard to understand and raspy. Luckily, Zach could make out what she said and smiled.

"That's good." Zach stood up as April got out of the bed, revealing her ruined dress. Somehow, though, the water Magi still seemed to be determined to get up and get ready for the day - a quality that Zach liked about her. "Well, I'd better go check on my Xand Bears. They like to get into trouble."

April smiled weakly and turned to her dresser as Zach left, opening it slowly. The air Magi walked back out into the entrance and sat down on a comfortable chair with a nearby window that led to a beautiful view of the outside world. He sighed, stroking his Raza Cobra's scales with a finger and leaning back. For once, he was relaxed in a time that could easily lead to a disaster.

A golden Gryphon cawed from outside, alerting Zach of its presence. He turned to look for Deathdrop, but the Naga was already out the door and beside the Gryphon. She undid the ribbon that was tied around its neck and nodded, watching for a moment as the Gryphon soared off into the sky. Deathdrop quickly slithered back inside, heading towards April's room but stopping as she walked out. She was dressed in her usual attire.

The water Magi accepted the scroll from the Naga and nodded a silent thanks, loosening the knot that held it together and unfolding it to read the note.
Dear April,
  • I heard that you were struck by lightning at the dance! Hoping you're alright - but you're a big girl now, I've got to learn that I can't always hug you close and tell you it'll be okay.
However, the real reason I'm writing this note is because I have seen a bunch of Dark Brotherhood members lurking about. I'm not quite sure what they are doing, but they're getting uncomfortably close to my home. Rocky is even getting wary. Do you think you could come see what's going on when you are well?
Thanks,
Uncle Wapiti

April folded the note slowly, looking up and staring at the space in front of her.
"I'm going to the Alasre Mountains tomorrow."

EBIL RAIJU ARMEH D:

I hope Wapiti is okay. His creatures should take up arms (or paws and feathers and such) and defend him!

Oh Red, how I love you. <3
I'm just not so sure how some turkeys, Alpacas, Ibex, and a Gryphon can defend a person so well. They'd probably all flee. xD

More should (hopefully) be up tomorrow and throughout the weekend. ^_^

Aw I don't think so. Magical companions love their masters, will defend their masters until they're unable to. The turkatrices could tear some brotha's up. (GET IT? BROTHAS? BROTHERHOOD? AHA)

OH and I love you too! <3 Keep writing~

Chapter 12 - Squawk!

Post by freakazoid »

All I can say is: XD
moar pl0x - your call has been answered. :3
But I'm running out of ideas - halp?

Chapter 12: Squawk!
"But April!" Deathdrop's tone was worried and confused. "You were just struck by lightning the other night!"

April looked at the Naga with ocean blue eyes. "I know that - but Wapiti is my only family left. Besides my father, of course, but I could care less about him. I don't want anything happening to Wapiti or his farm." Her voice was strong, sounding determined and protective. Zach listened from the chair, smiling as his cobra tickled his ear. After a few moments of silence, the air Magi stood up and walked over to the females. Deathdrop looked at him, her yellow eyes pleading for help.

"I would just let her." Zach suggested, ignoring that glare from the Naga as he continued. "She's walking, isn't she?"

The water Magi held out her hands triumphantly, sticking her tongue out at their companion. "See? I'm fine. Even Zach thinks so." Smiling, April turned around and walked to the chair that Zach was sitting in previously. She sighed and sat down, looking out the window with interest.

"Well, at least wash that blood off your face." The Naga shook her head and slithered away to tend to some stray kittens. April smiled, watching Deathdrop scold the Winged Cat hatchlings that were playing with some flowers before getting up again and walking towards the door.

"Hey, well, I think I should be getting back to my Keep." Zach said. The Magi looked at him, nodding in understanding.

"Alright." She sighed. "Walk out back and Alexander can take you to the Gryphons." Zach nodded and turned, heading for the rear door and disappearing behind its surface. April turned and walked out to the front, walking toward the pond and bending down next to it. The water was clear and pure - Goddess and the Koi did a great job of keeping it clean. The Magi splashed her hand into the water and pulled it up to her face, rubbing her hand around her eye and wiping off the dry blood. April was disgusted at the red liquid that ran down her arm, trickling onto the grass and staining it a crimson color. Goddess swam up to her and opened her mouth to speak.

"Hey April!"

"Hi, Goddess." April smiled at the mermaid's playful personality - a quality that she wished she could have. The mermaid giggled and disappeared under the water, poking a Dragon Koi and swimming away quickly in a game of underwater tag. Smiling, April watched for a moment and got up, looking toward the forest and sighing. She remembered what she saw the other day - shuddering at the thought, April took a deep breath and began walking toward it. The dirt path winded around a field of grass, with specks of daisies poking up and about. Purple wildflowers dotted the landscape, swaying in the gentle breeze that swept across the meadow.

April stopped at the entrance, peeking inside the forest and looking around. Skioros and other various creatures scattered at the sound of a twig snapping as the Magi stepped into the brush. Screeches from Rewins greeted April's ears as she walked around, examining the wildlife that surrounded her.

The sound of a creature walking behind her startled April, but she turned to see a Dodo bird stepping her way. "Hey Maggie." She giggled, bending down to scoop up the hatchling. "What are you doing all the way out here? I thought you were supposed to be back at the Keep with Alexander."

The hatchling squawked, burying her head into April's chest. The Magi smiled, stroking Maggie's head with her hand. Looking up, she noticed a screech from overhead as Tawai and Zach flew back to his Keep.

"Bye Zach!" April yelled as loud as she could, hoping the air Magi would hear her. Maggie chirped, her beady eyes staring at the sky that was visible through the think canopy of the forest.

Chapter 13: Evening Rest

Post by freakazoid »

Glad you guys are liking it. :italian:
Sorry this next chapter took so long, I couldn't find an idea up until now. So, here ya go! ^-^
This chapter is very short, but I promise the next one will be longer!

Chapter 13: Evening Rest
April couldn't tell whether Zach saw her or not, but she wasn't very concerned. As long as she knew that she had yelled goodbye, the water Magi was satisfied. Sighing in content, April looked at Maggie and smiled as the hatchling chirped at her.

“Well, you ready to head back?" As if to respond to April's question, the Dodo yawned and nodded her head, clamping her beak as she closed her mouth. Smiling, the water Magi shifted the hatchling to a more comfortable position and headed back for Herbal Grace.

When she reached the large, castle-like building, the water Magi opened the door and set Maggie down. Maggie trilled, looking up at April before turning and waddling off. She couldn't help but let out a giggle as the hatchling stopped at a small group of three kittens and squawked loudly, blinking in amusement as the Winged Cat hatchlings scattered. Ruffling her feathers, Maggie disappeared behind Deathdrop as she slithered in front of the hatchling.

April walked over to the counter in the kitchen and took some dried meat out of the cupboard, sinking her teeth into the food and chewing happily. Ohh, this is so good... She thought to herself as she ate the meat. Once she finished, she looked outside.

"It's night already? That's impossible."

"I'm afraid not." The Naga laughed, approaching April and patting her back."I'd pack up for the mountains, if I were you, so that you're ready to go in the morning."

The water Magi nodded, stretching her body before heading for her bedroom. She made sure her regular satchel was safely tucked in the corner of the room before turning and searching for her travel bag. April found it near the egg-warmer, and she picked it up, walking back to the kitchen and grabbing a small pouch to fill with dried fruits, vegetables, and meat. Once it was filled, she placed it in her travel bag and made sure the lace was tied shut.

After the pouch and everything was taken care of, April sighed and placed all of her belongings on a table. She walked over to the comfy chair that Zach had sat in earlier, reaching over to the nearby shelves and grabbing a book. She read it until the moon was high in the sky, when she fell asleep with the book still in her hands.
