I prefer to have my errors pointed out, and will usually edit a post (if I can) to correct them. To my utter disgust, my 7, T, M, N, and comma keys are sticking, so you'll see a lot of them missed out in my posts. It frustrates me something shocking and I'd rather have it pointed out so I can correct it.
-Edit- Thank you. I always miss at least one.

Consider it pointed. ;)Kamorth wrote: I frustrates me something shocking and I'd rather have it pointed out so I can correct it.
To me,the ability to communicate, and the understanding of which forms of communication is suitable for whichever situation is occurring, is paramount. I just can't respect someone who insists on using chat-speak, especially in a situation like a chat-room where it is against the rules, and the very thought of someone who tries to use it in a CV or an essay just fills me with dread. It's just picking the most appropriate for the situation.
A different example I've come across in a another forum also annoys me. In this case, the member could clearly understand English enough to read questions, some quite complex in both substance and format, posted in the Help Forum, yet insisted on replying only in Chinese. Even then, most of it was just copying from the Japanese Wiki on the game. This annoyed me because communication is a two-way street. You have to include understanding in communication, otherwise it's just random noise or shapes. Likewise with grammar.
If someone can't read it, you are better off not trying at all.

I am quite dismayed at the amount of people who keep spelling ad (the abbreviation of advertisement) with a double D. People! It is not spelt with two D's!
I go into the Operation Save MagiStream thread, and just about anyone who talks about the ads is spelling it with two D's. I don't get why everyone keeps spelling it like that.

Re: Bad Grammar - Bothersome?
Sometimes the emails and letters I get make me cry. I too am guilty of bad grammar at times because I am fluent in so many languages I mix up grammar rules at times but textspeak and slang is an altogether different beast. My friend is the head of an electronics department and he once showed me the horrors he got that had to pass for solicitations.

Re: Bad Grammar - Bothersome?
I know people in college who can't even type proper english.
Last semester I was I was stuck in a group project and for part of it we had to watch a film and we all needed to give our input on it after. I was compiling information from everyone to put together our powerpoint presentation and (aside from the fact that I only got 1 of 3 people's information) the file I was emailed was, atrocious.
And these are college age students, college age! They should know how to write and type proper English especially when you can speak it just fine. Here's a snippet, copy and pasted from what I was emailed.
It made me cringe so badly. I managed to get the jist of what was being told but honestly, at first glance, I wouldn't have thought it was written by a college student.
I know that English either isn't their mother tongue or may not be used a lot outside of school since they frequently, with each other, spoke in another language(I was thinking Indian or perhaps some Middle Eastern language I honestly have no idea). But they still spoke English just fine which made me confused as to why this was written so horribly.

I only got halfway through that before my head hurt...
Re: Bad Grammar - Bothersome?
Well, BBKat, let me give you an example. I am currently doing Japanese, and I speak it moderately fluently. Yet, despite my teacher having taught me Japanese script for nearly as long as the spoken language, I'm still shit with the script.
I just can't seem to get Japanese script.
So it may be the same with them. It doesn't really excuse their poor punctuation (full stops, etc), however.

Re: Bad Grammar - Bothersome?
I actually find it more difficult to type badly than I do in plain, readable form. Grammar was put in place to make thing easy to understand when written down. 'It's the internet, it doesn't matter' is the worst excuse in the book. What, do you not want people to understand you on the internet? Typos happen, sure. But if I see that people are writing 'liek dis' deliberately, I don't care what they have to say. If they won't try, neither will I. The end.

Re: Bad Grammar - Bothersome?
Let's be honest - on the internet, the only way you present yourself is through written word. That's all people have to judge you by (and I mean judge your personality and such, not to be judgmental in a negative manor). If you can't be bothered to present yourself well, of course people are going to notice.
Also, as a teacher, I've found that the extent that text speak has permeated culture is much more then most people think. Kids literally do not have an idea how to string a basic sentence together, and spelling has gone out the window. And I'm talking 5th and 6th graders here that can't write, not little kids.
Personally, I just don't get it. If you type a lot, you get fast at it anyway, and text speak isn't needed. It actually takes longer to type like that...
