Creatures 1030/1031-Desgolos

Post by BBkat »

They are permanent stream creature and will be able to breed. They will flood the stream up to and including August 27th.
Western Desgolo

This egg looks like it's just a very tight coiled ball.

ImageImage(f/m)
Your egg has not so much hatched as it has unraveled from a tight curl into a slightly looser one. Desgolo hatchlings spend most of their time curled in a coil of varying sizes. On occasion the hatchling, still coiled, seems to just appear out of thin air. You're not completely sure if the hatchling has any control over the time or place it vanishes or reappears, though for some reason bordering on random chance and deliberation you find it quite often near your unicorn enclosure. They certainly are mysterious and when they vanish they never leave a trace.

ImageImage (f/m)
One day you find your coiled desgolo hatchling has straightened into a massive hauntingly eerie slithering creature. It is a creature of fathomless grace. It has more legs than you can count and you feel as if its melon-sized eyes gaze right into your soul as its head hovers high above you. And in a blink of an eye it's gone just to appear later without a warning. Having an adult desgolo around for experimental spells is considered smart, though, as if something goes wrong the desgolo is more than eager to clean up any magic residue.

There are mentions of the desgolos from the times of the magewars and especially from the aftermath. Desgolos to this day are plentiful in Alveus and revered there for their appetites - the desgolos mainly survive by consuming excess magic. The more magic there is the bigger an individual desgolo, as well as the whole population grows, and there are sketches of desgolos as tall as the tower of Triathe at the times of the war. Desgolos are gentle and harmless creatures in themselves, but can become pests in lands rich with magic unless trained properly. People farming magical herbs have reported strange geometric shapes appearing on their fields, and the cause is usually a wild desgolo population eating its way through the magic and the plants. What makes controlling especially untamed desgolos harder is their ability to teleport short distances. This ability, however, cab be used to clear fields and small forests of the desgolos as well, as a lure with strong lingering magic is sure to draw in any desgolos within a few hundred yards. Once desgolos are properly tamed and trained they learn to control and properly direct their hunger.

The whole coiled thing reminds me of a roly poly. And they're described as pests... Maybe they're bugs? :orly:

I think so too! When I looked at the egg before reading the description I thought of centipedes and similar insects.

I would guess two species of Millipedes due to their nature being called "gentle and harmless"
