Not Awake - Midnite's Poetry Dump

Post by MidniteScy »

Critique appreciated for any of the posts here. ^^;

It’s two in the morning
Just what am I doing
I’m wide awake
Staring into space

I see lights
I hear sounds
I see
Things
That
Cannot
Be
Found

My mind stutters
My ears mutter
Something inaudible
Something impossible

I see flashes
Color so blinding
That
It’s
Not
There
Things that I’m finding
Simply
Aren’t
There

Wake up
Wake up
But I can’t
I’m stuck

In this trance of a state
My mind feels wide awake
I see light
I see colors
But I’m really
Not awake

Figured I'd just dump my other poems here rather than creating a new topic. :splat:

Maybe there is a way
That we can
Reach the stars
Those twinkling
Dust specks of
Light
Can they really be
So far away?

Perhaps they really are
That small
And as close as they
Appear

Perhaps there is a way
We can reach
Those stars
That twinkle
So merrily

The stories tell
Of stairs and ladders
And ropes
Of constellations
Spun with
silk

Of metal casings
And blasting flames
That shoot through
The atmosphere
And blaze
To
Faraway

But maybe
There’s a way to those stars
That twinkle
So brightly
That exists
Not in
Stories
Of stairs and ladders
And star-strung ropes
Nor of blazing rockets
And no return

Just maybe
The way to the stars
Is already there
Right in our
Hearts
That pulse
Just as
Brightly

Fly
Feathers fall from above
A rustle in the trees
I look up
Looking for that something
Sitting above me

Fairy wings
Sweeping tail
Playful twinkle in the eyes
Opens beak
Cheerful songs
Like the clear blue skies
You saw

Spreads wings
Lifts off
Singing that same cheerful tune
I wish
I could come with you

Take me with you
To see the sky
Take me with you
To see the world from above
Take me with you
So I can fly too

Speckle among the wispy clouds
Soaring
Sweeping
Never
Weeping

Teach me the words to your song
I know only
some parts
Teach me how to sing
I want to engrave the lyrics
on my heart

Singing bird
Why won’t you stay?
Come down and talk to me
I wish to learn your songs
I wish to learn your ways

How is it that you see?
The world
From so high above
Make our troubles
Look so small

Take me with you
I want to see the sky
Teach me your songs
I want to keep them
On my mind
Teach me how to
Look
From
Up
So high

Can't Keep Us
If only we could be
Somewhere far away
Somewhere no one can see
Where night becomes day

If only we could be
Somewhere in my dreams
Where no one could reach us
To teach or to preach us

If only
If only
If only
We could

Rise up together
Don’t care if whether
They see us
Believe us
Can’t breach us
Can’t reach us

If only we could be
Somewhere far away
Where it’s just you and me
And wherever our minds stray

If only we could be
Somewhere make-believe
A story we told
And read as we grew old

If only
If only
If only
We could

Fly off together
Don’t care if whether
They see us
Believe us
Can’t stop us
Can’t keep us

If only we could be
Somewhere far away
Where it’s just you and me
And forever, we’ll stay

Pretend
I remember
The good old days
When we used to play pretend
In anyone’s backyard

We’d climb the trees
Pretend we were elves
Of a forgotten, hidden race

We’d sail ships
Across the seven seas
And be mermaids and water-witches

We’d journey to faraway places
So distant
They could only be reached in our minds

The treasures we would find
Gold, jewels, amongst other things
But the real treasure
Was remembering those times

Grass
I remember
The sun-soaked evenings
When the grass was green and smelled
Of spring rain

I remember
When we chased and played
And rolled down the hills
When the grass was so green and felt
Of fall leaves

I remember
When we ran and ran
Along the sandy gravel path
When the grass was green and sounded
Of summer breeze

And I’ll remember
When the evening skies were streaked with sun
When the grass smelled of
Spring rain
Felt of
Fall leaves
And sounded of
Summer breeze
I’ll remember
All those things
Come winter
When the grass
Is no longer
So green

Little Planet
It seems as though
The world’s
A rather
Lonely
Place
But if you look hard enough
You’ll see
That there’s
Life
In every corner
Of every
Race

It seems as though
We’re
All
Alone
That
The sky
Is determined
To be
Forever
Too faraway
To reach
But if you look hard enough
You will come to see
That
The clouds
They create
A way
And if we
Try
Hard enough
One day
We will be able
To
Follow them

It seems as though
We’re all alone
Trapped in
A little bubble
In an
Infinite
Space
But if you look hard enough
You will find
That
We are not alone
We are never alone
The stars
They shine
Above us
The grass
It sings
Below us
And if we look hard enough
There is life
In every corner
In every place
Of every color
Of every race
And one day
If we try hard enough
We will be able
To go
Faraway
Along those clouds
That create
The way

Let's Take a Walk
Let’s
Take a walk
To the edge of the world
Where birds leap off to take their first flight
And stars glimmer in the sky

Let’s
Take a swim
To the bottom of the sea
Where fish twirl and play
And sand shifts like a gritty breeze

Let’s
Take a stroll
Through sunlit fields and meadows
Through deep forests filled with shadows
To where the river bends
To where the world ends
And every living thing
Can be our friends

Let’s
Remember those days
Where everything was calm and quiet
No bustling streets
No city noise
Where you could walk to the edge of the world
If you wanted to
Where you could swim to the bottom of the sea
If you wanted to
And every living thing
Were our friends

Out
Little cat
Leaped into a box
Thinking it was
A good hiding place

“Let me out!”
Came out as
“Meow, meow, meow!”
So the humans chuckled it away

There little cat stayed
‘Till half-past day
Sitting and thinking
Starry eyes blinking

How can I get in?
But never come out?

And the box
Chuckled it away

Cry
The murky cloud above me
Sinking mud beneath my feet
An oppressive mist of sadness
Of darkness and despair

I can’t escape
My inner night
My silent screams
They go unheard

Fresh tears I shed
Stain sleeves with salt
And scratches and tears at my throat
I sob
Choking
And hoping no one hears

The smog so cold and dark
It’s no use trying to see
So I squeeze my eyes shut
And curl up into a ball
And just cry myself to sleep
