Rhea's Entry #1 - Black Bear - Crits appreciated

Post by RheaDark »

Black Bear

Note - I got my idea from this:
BEARS IN SEPTEMBER

The fall is a season of great importance for all bears, but this holds most true for pregnant bears. September represents their last chance to fatten themselves up before retreating to the den where they will bear their young in a matter of months.

Appearence: [That of a normal black bear. Color variations can include shades of brown and even blonde, or sometimes a white v-shaped crest blaze on their chests (thanks to Wikipedia for this info)]

General: Although quite plentiful, especially in the Alasre Mountains and Silva Forest areas, Black Bears are difficult to obtain. They are laid in winter and cared for by the mother while she hibernates in a den. The hidden location of these dens and the ferocity of the mother bears often discourage Magis from searching for Black Bear eggs.

Independent yet loyal, Black Bears will often wander off on their own only to return when its master calls. The deep bonds formed between a Black Bear cub and its master during its youth instill a connection between the two, allowing the bear to know what its master feels at any given moment. Because of its connection to emotions, Black Bears will tend to become emotionally detached to evil Magis. However, if raised properly, a Black Bear cub raised by a corrupt Magi will itself become corrupt and follow its master's orders without heed to its own life or that of others. Because of such - as well as it's physical prowess - Black Bears are favorites of evil Magi.

Egg: This egg is black, extremely heavy, and has a claw mark on it.

Hatchling: An adorable bear cub has emerged from the egg. It's pure black, and at this point looks almost like a teddy bear. However, it's hardly harmless - look a bit closer and you'll see that the cub is already sporting a formidable set of claws and very sharp teeth. It spends a lot of its time trying out different kinds of food and attempting to wrestle with other hatchlings, especially the direwolf pups.

Adult: Your adorable Black Bear cub has grown into a intimidating mass of muscle. When standing, it seems to tower over you even though it's only a bit taller than you. Its claws have grown to fearsome size and razor-sharpness, more akin to butcher knives than the claws of any other creatures you've encountered. Despite its size and strength, it's very skilled in preventing its claws from injuring you. It will, however, become suspicious of other Magi and may attack them unless reassured.

Idea of mine - if there are variations of this animal, have a normal black bear and a black bear with a white v on its chest - like the albino direwolves.
