Anyway..Love how April reacted but hopefully she can overcome her fear.

Interlude 1; A Near-Death Experience
April sat near a pond, fiddling with her shoes as she took them off to take a dip in the water. She giggled as her feet made ripples in the pond upon contact, blowing her blonde hair out of her eyes as she looked into the crystal clear water. The child rolled up her jeans and cast her jacket to the side, walking around the shallows of the water.

Something dark blue in the distance snapped a twig, followed by a loud neigh and the stomping of a hoof. Intrigued, April walked onto the dry grass on the other side of the pond and looked around. A horse head poked out from behind a tree, red eyes blinking innocently as it whinnied. Smiling, April waddled over to the horse and stared at it, pulling a carrot from her pocket and feeding it to the horse.

She stopped for a minute, looking at the horse's mane and looking at the droplets of water as they streamed down its body. "Why are you wet, horsie?" April cocked her head and giggled as the horse neighed. Pulling another carrot out of her pocket and feeding it to the horse, April smiled and looked over the equine's body. It's coat looked so smooth, so soft, she had to touch it...

Reaching out a hand, April ran her fingers through the murky brown mane of the dripping horse. It's mane was strangely untangled. Then April placed her hand on the horse's muzzle, smiling and shuffling her feet. "You're very pretty, horsie."

It was at that moment that April discovered that her hand was stuck to the horse's coat. She pulled for a few moments, gazing at the horse with confusion in her eyes. "Why am I sticking to you, horsie?"

The horse neighed, rearing up on its hind legs and dashing towards the pond. April screamed, kicking and thrashing as the horse dived into the water.

Suddenly, a hand grabbed the back of her shirt and pulled upward. A boy, about a year older than April, plunged into the water and stabbed the horse's neck. The only thing that escaped from the horse was a few bubbles, barely visible in the dimly-lit waters of the pond. April opened her mouth, getting a mouthful of water and choking as it slid down her throat. Her hand was immediately freed from the dead horse's body; April kicked her legs frantically as she swam up.

As she broke the surface of the water, April took in a gasp of air and swam for the edge. She quickly grabbed her things and fled the pond, not looking back at the sandy-haired boy that had just saved her life.
