Therezi #1349

General

Therezis may look intimidating with their large stature and giant claws, but are in fact generally placid beings content to munch on plants, using their claws mainly to climb trees to reach higher, leaves. When standing upright, they are half again as tall as an average magi, and similar in girth to a horse. They make excellent mounts, as they can carry quite a bit of weight, and run very swiftly with sufficient motivation. Despite the fearsome look of their claws, though, a magi should not depend on a therezi mount for defense, as the claws are rather brittle and thus rarely useful in combat.

Egg

This egg has a blue cap with a small red slash, and is very, very hard.

Hatchling

Hatchling therezis are awkward things, constantly trying to run about on legs that are just a little too clumsy and short, and constantly trying to climb using front claws that are still a little too soft and small. After one has worn itself out, it runs back to its parents or magi to beg for treats, take a quick rest, and repeat the process all over again.

Adult

A therezi becomes an adult after molting its hatchling down and growing in its hairy adult feathers. These feathers are very useful components in spells and potions involving haste, and are carefully collected after molts. Therezi adults form bonded groups that mate interchangeably and raise their offspring communally, and the ones that live at the Keep form one such particularly large group. However, it is not uncommon for therezis raised by magi at the Keep to find a wild group to join instead. Therezis are commonly used as mounts and are content to go with their magi on adventures, but should not be kept separate from their community for too long. Magi returning from adventures often remark that their return journey was twice as swift as swift as setting out, as their therezi mount made extra haste upon realizing their proximity to the Keep and its family.
