Meo May #1384

General

Meo are beloved companions, with their vibrant colors and association with good luck. However, common wisdom goes that the meo chooses a magi, rather than the other way around. Meo eggs simply show up in a person's possession, or a hatchling or adult wanders into someone's life and doesn't leave. This occurrence is most common in early spring - coincidentally when meo most commonly hatch. It's considered a sign of good luck and an orderly household if a meo shows up, and some families leave out offerings of fish in hopes of encouraging one to come and stay. The mist and cloud-summoning meo may are more aloof, and considered more lucky, but the sleek meo nuoc are just as welcome, especially with their ability to call down rain to water thirsty crops.

Egg

This vibrant egg is surrounded by a cloud.

Hatchling

Meo kittens are lively and playful, loving nothing more than to summon clouds to hide in before pouncing on unsuspecting passers-by. Meo are noticeably larger than the average house cat, and their kittens are no exception. While they will happily play with other kittens, some care needs to be taken that they don't accidentally hurt their playmates given their larger size and propensity to summon water. Magi who suddenly find themselves in possession of a meo kitten sometimes seek out shuihu hatchlings for their kitten to play with, as the two get along particularly well, though finding one is often easier said than done.

Adult

Adult meo are masters at manipulating water, though only in one form - meo may can only summon shape mist or convert water sources into clouds, while meo nuoc can only condense vapor or shape existing water. In addition, ice seems to confound both types, leading to some speculation that there is another type of yet undiscovered meo. They are highly adept at the form they do control, though, with such fine mastery that meo owners will often train them to make lovely cloud or water patterns, and some collaborate to have their cats put on shows to welcome the coming spring. Particularly well-trained meo might even be able to shape words, though this is uncommon and their vocabularies are usually very limited.
