Tropical Cetus #1283

Tropical ceti are distant relatives of leviathans and grow to be just as large, but while leviathans are regarded with wary respect and fear by sailors, tropical ceti are well loved and spotting one on a voyage is considered good luck. While they are usually found playing with each other near the Callisto Islands, some will venture further out, such that they have been spotted in waters all over the known world. Wherever they go, tropical ceti exude calm and joy, such that even when one shows up in Triathe, the residents reluctantly allow it to leave in peace. Some say this is the mark of the Callisto Islands on them - wherever a cetus goes, it takes some of the islands' easygoing lifestyle with it.

This striped egg is brightly colored. Just looking at it makes you feel a bit more cheerful.

Tropical cetus hatchlings love nothing more than to play in Lake Lakira, with whatever creatures are near. As hatchlings, their aura of peace and happiness is even more potent, so it's not uncommon to spot creatures that would normally eat each other all happily playing together when a cetus hatchling is nearby. This seems to be beneficial to all magical creatures involved, since non-magical fish attracted to the area become easy meals for the ceti and other predators. If the cetus hatchling's calming aura isn't sufficient to discourage conflict, though, it won't hesitate to nip the offender. Even as hatchlings, ceti have sharp teeth that can deliver quite a painful bite when necessary.

As tropical ceti grow older and larger, they make the journey from Lake Lakira to their home at the Callisto Islands. Sometimes they are joined by koi fish and other usually non-seafaring creatures who they have befriended during their time in Lake Lakira, but the ceti protect all of their friends during the journey with their calming aura. Their power means that, like caeralisi, negotiations are often conducted in their presence so that all parties are in an agreeable mindset. Some magi speculate that ceti have protection powers beyond simply their calming aura, since ships that encounter ceti seem to always have particularly smooth journeys, and diplomatic meetings conducted in their presence have never been interrupted with misfortune before their scheduled conclusion.
