Coal Feathered Jackalope #1179

General

With long, powerful legs and sleek wings, these jackalopes look as though they would be among the fastest of magical creatures. While they are fleet of foot and quite agile, that is not their true ability. That lies in their ears, which are enormous and sensitive enough to pick up the quietest of sounds. Their gorgeous curving antlers help guide sounds to their ears, as well, making their hearing all the more keen. Not even owls in flight are quiet enough to take a feathered jackalope by surprise. In the past they were expert spies, able to overhear battle plans from miles away and through stone walls. Now, their ability is used for more mundane things, like listening in and deciding who may deserve a nice present—or who may deserve coal.

This egg has two enormous ears

Hatchling

Feathered jackalope hatchlings are fluffy as soon as they're hatched. They enjoy sitting in one spot and being petted and fed carrots by their magi while they make sense of the noisy world they’ve arrived into. Their ears will swivel in all directions while they sit until they've learned everything there is to hear around them, and the pattern will repeat if they travel to a new location. With so much to hear, there is a lot to learn, but they will always attend obediently to the voice of their magi.

Adult

Feathered jackalopes are a sight to behold both in the ground and in the air, their sleek bodies a flash of color as they move. They are able to share their ability to hear nearly anything with their magi, as long as their magi is kind to them and uses the information for good. They are a common sight around the keep in winter, as they are the creature of choice to send to try and gather information on what someone else may want as a gift for the solstice season. Merchants also employ these creatures, as they dash around the countryside gathering information on what will sell well.
