Elderoch #1175

General

A rare hybrid of an elred and a delroch, elderochs preserve many of the best qualities of each. They are incredibly strong with impressive fire abilities; they can burn entire fields to ashes with their magic, and even without it, their horns and hooves can be formidable weapons. But they are equally gentle when the situation calls for it, almost never attacking anything that doesn't pose them or their companions a direct threat. In domestic settings, they are good at managing their great flames and bulk alike, able to manage narrow hallways and crowded spaces with surprising delicacy. They are known for their attentiveness, and so make faithful companions. If one is not intimidated by their size, they can make reliable mounts for fire magi.

Egg

It's a little egg with a flame and horns sticking out.

Hatchling

A baby elderoch is a precious sight, often found following other creatures and humans around as they go about their day. Elderochs are curious, sociable creatures, and make excellent companions. They will often form bonds with humans that they maintain into adulthood, and those who care for them often compare them to faithful hounds for their affection. Although fragile at a young age, they grow quickly, and are soon able to accompany their human caretakers on their journeys.

Adult

A fully-grown elderoch is an impressive beast, with massive horns and a crown of flame above their heads that burns for their entire lives. They are at home on the battlefield, and can readily take down creatures far larger than themselves, retaining the fire-related magic and strength of their fathers. However, despite their superficial similarities to delrochs, elderochs are much more similar to their mothers in personality. Outside of combat encounters, they are surprisingly friendly, readily accompanying their human companions on trips to the market and other places it may seem odd to see such a creature. They are even allowed in the Keep's libraries, and may be seen acting as a makeshift pillow for their magi as they study. While an onlooker might imagine it takes years of work to train these powerful creatures, they are easily swayed by simple rewards. Magi who work with them claim that elderochs love to be read to, and have a particular weakness for pancakes.
