Jungle Maladar #1164

General

What maladar lack in size they make up for in bravado. Maladar seem convinced that they're dragons and will happily stare down real dragons, even ones that could eat them in one bite. Eating them isn't advisable, however; ocean maladar are able to squirt toxin at predators, and jungle maladar are simply covered in a poisonous mucous. Both maladar species are able to detach their tails at will to distract predators, and also live in large family groups so that there is always an adult or two to watch for naïve predators.

Egg

This egg looks like it's on fire from a distance, but it isn't.

Hatchling

Hatchling jungle maladar have endless energy and do best when in a large family group with other hatchlings. Maladar have the ability to regrow body parts and hatchlings often don't understand that this doesn't usually apply to other species, so it's best to keep them separated from anything that doesn't want to lose a limb. Magi who raise them regularly become used to finding random body parts strewn about, but it's still recommended to give hatchling maladar plenty of toys they can pull apart instead of their siblings.

Adult

A common sight in the Ixan Jungle, adult jungle maladar and their families can often be found stretched out sunbathing on the limbs of trees and happily standing in the rain during storms. They tolerate other species - including magi - being nearby, but if approached will become aggressive and threatening. Adults raised by magi are less aggressive but can get very sulky if they perceive disrespect. Jungle maladar mucous has been shown to help heal burns on both living flesh and plants, though most magi consider the pain of the cure worse than the actual burn. Jungle maladar seem drawn to fire and can also be found rolled up in a ball near it, the frills on their back waving in time to the flicker of the flames.
