Ridged Drakpalu #1150

General

There have long been legends of a wise creature that will guide those who get lost in the thick swamps of the Razan Jungle back to safety. That creature is known as the drakpalu, and legends became true when a lost magi was aided by one of the creatures and was given an egg. With their hardy bodies and long tails, drakpalu can traverse muddy, sinking terrain with ease, and most often prefer to dwell in thick, algae-filled waters. They also enjoy basking in the sunlight, letting the mud flake off and revealing their shimmering scales. Their sense of direction is keen, and a drakpalu seem to not only know the boundaries of their own territory with exquisite detail, but also seem to be able to sense if anything within it changes.

Egg

This egg has a finned tail.

Hatchling

Drakpalu hatchings are energetic creatures, and seem to always be on the move, either on land or in the water. Small and somewhat fragile, there are many predators who may find a small drakpalu appetizing. To hide, they prefer to keep themselves covered in mud or algae at all times. This can be somewhat humorous when a drakpalu hatchling greets their magi by leaping into their arms, leaving a muddy splatter on their clothes.

Adult

Drakpalu thrive on eating algae and rotten leaves and live in mud, which was once thought to be rather off-putting. However, their diet and choice of living helps to balance the flora within their chosen territory. Swamps which have drakpalu living within them are able to support a wide variety of other creatures, and are hotbeds of diverse life. Plants grow within drakpalu swamps and rivers that can’t be found anywhere else because of the care with which drakpalu take with their territory. At the Keep, drakpalu are often given patches of swamp to live by the stream and its tributaries, and they keep the water flowing and maintain the biome that ensures the stream’s health.
