Voidsharks are slow-growing and slow to breed. Voidsharks don't always respect the territory of other members of their species and of the other creatures that share the ocean with them, especially if there's an abundance of food in the new territory. Battles between voidsharks can turn the water as black as ink, though fortunately these battles don't usually result in death or serious injury. Most predators avoid voidsharks as much as possible, unless they have the ability to eat and digest meat that's said to smell heavily of rotten garbage.
This egg seems to draw the light into itself.
Voidshark hatchlings like deep, dark waters where they can hide in the shadows. As they grow, they have less need of hiding and will often venture out into the darkest reaches of the ocean. Hatchlings are generally docile but magi should still be cautious around them, as they have both sharp teeth and a painful tendency to whip things that annoy them with their long tails. Voidshark hatchlings are solitary from a young age and will actively avoid other aquatic animals, even their own species.
An adult voidshark isn't a huge animal, but they are quick to defend themselves against anything that approaches. Fully-grown, a voidshark can absorb the light around it and convert it into pulses of darkness that blind and disorient any attackers. Physically they have sharp teeth and can use their long tails for precision strikes that often draw blood. Prey often doesn't see the voidshark lurking in the shadows, usually below it, until it's too late. At night their bellies glow faintly green and spotting them while on a ship is said to be an omen of bad weather.
