Verdant Oaklet

Oak leaves partly enclose this beautiful egg.

Little is known about the oaklet hatchlings as these creatures raise their young deep within the forest. As small as oak leaves, oaklet hatchlings are curious in general. They would approach anyone if it weren't for their overly watchful parents. The silent forest nights are disturbed only by the gleeful screeches of oaklet hatchlings as they learn how to fly. The hatchlings learn to teleport from a young age. They understand the way oak trees work and how to become one with them. Although they don't always teleport on the tree they had in mind, the oaklet hatchlings are perseverent little creatures, never giving up on their goals.

Spoiler
With bodies made out of wood and leafy wings, oaklet adults are masters of disguise. They blend in perfectly with the oaks around them, only a rare twitch of an ear giving away their location. The oaklets are in perfect harmony with the oak forests, which allows them to teleport from one tree to another. Although it's a somewhat slow process, the oaklets attach to the bark, slowly becoming part of the trees themselves. They appear on a different tree, detaching from the bark and becoming corporeal again. Although this unusual type of magic works best with oaks, the oaklets can be trained to teleport to different kinds of trees. Because of this, the oaklets are valuable companions in situations that require discretion.
Spotting an oaklet is all about luck. They blend in with the trees so well that only those with patience and a trained eye can catch a glimpse of these magnificent creatures. Entirely nocturnal, the oaklets sleep throughout the day attached to trees. Their wings are made out of leaves that are either a healthy shade of green or a beautiful mixture of brown and yellow. Uncertain of their origin and unable to find any mention of these creatures in books about magical beings, those who spotted them first named them oaklets, as these creatures seem to have an attachment to oaks. Indeed they make their homes between oak leaves, the russet kind even growing acorns between their leafy wings. Lichen grows on their bellies, helping with the camouflage. Chiropterologists claim that oaklets can teleport from one tree to another as they fall asleep in one tree and wake up in another, in an entirely different part of the woods.
