May Donis:Eleuthyian & Aresian Hellenic Pegasus

Eleuthyian Hellenic Pegasus - 3 Shard
Image
This egg smells like fresh spring growth and makes you feel at peace just by being near it.

General Description
Spoiler
Eleuthyian hellenic pegasi are gentle, elusive creatures, so filled with life magic that their every step is trailed by the sprouting and blooming of wildflowers. Wild ones travel in small familial groups, always passing through the lands near the Keep during the transition between spring and summer, though sightings of them are rare, as they are incredibly shy and bolt at the slightest provocation. Being able to ride one is a mark of deep respect and trust, most commonly a privilege only granted to magi skilled in both healing and herb lore. Eleuthyian hellenic pegasi are peaceful and will never carry their rider into battle, but tales abound of gentle healers and peacemakers who have forestalled entire wars by landing between gathered armies and appealing to their better natures. Those who have been able to approach an eleuthyian hellenic pegasus confirm that they exude a calming aura, though it is unclear to what extent they can use and focus this ability.

Hatchling Description
Spoiler
Hatchling eleuthyian hellenic pegasi are lovely and graceful, capable of getting up and running about immediately after birth, without the awkward gangly stage of trying out their legs that other foals tend to have. Even so, they follow their parents about everywhere, and adults in their herd take turns caring for foals. Young eleuthyian hellenic pegasi are bolder than adults, and may be willing to allow magi to approach them. However, the adults nearby usually flee, and foals will follow suit. Hatchlings raised from an egg take their cues from their magi, and seem able to sense if their companion has trepidations about someone. Only their magi’s closest friends are able to approach, and fewer and fewer people keep this privilege as the foal grows older. Eleuthyian hellenic pegasi are notoriously picky about who they allow to be their companion, and so it is not uncommon for a magi raising one to simply find one morning that their adolescent pegasus has simply disappeared into the wild. Unscrupulous mages have tried clipping their wings to prevent this, but the procedure is not only inevitably a failure, but also guarantees that the pegasus will leave.

Male/Female Adult - No dimorphism
Adult Description
Spoiler
An eleuthyian hellenic pegasus is considered an adult when flowers begin blooming in its mane and tails, usually a year after it hatched. The flowers have many useful properties - just being near one tends to calm people, and fresh flowers are a critical ingredient in many healing potions. Eleuthyian hellenic pegasi mate for life and court by growing and bringing flowers to their intended partner, and a pair’s offspring often stay with them for a few years, helping to care for their siblings, before leaving to search for a mate of their own. Despite their skittishness, eleuthyian hellenic pegasi have been known to sometimes help humans in great need, but they must be approached cautiously. While they generally avoid conflict, a cornered adult is capable of turning their life magic offensive, growing verdant walls and literally rooting their attacker in place in the blink of an eye.

Aresian Hellenic Pegasus - 5 Shard
Image
This red egg gives you the feeling of a battle being fought nearby.

General Description
Spoiler
Aresian hellenic pegasi are seen as the embodiment of sheer brutality and bloodlust. As they are said to bring violence and war, their presence is usually considered bad luck. With an untamed personality, the aresian hellenic pegasi are approached by few. Those who dare to do so are considered either heroes or complete lunatics. The bravest of warriors are sent to the wilds to approach these creatures in hopes of gaining their favors in future battles. The aresian hellenic pegasi require different tasks to be fulfilled, from small sacrifices to complex strategic mind games. Favors are granted based on the results. These favors range from tactical ideas to accompanying the warriors in battle. Wars are rarely lost when aresian hellenic pegasi fight alongside warriors, yet inexperienced foals can make mistakes. If the opponents have a aresian hellenic pegasus on their side as well, the battle can stretch for years as the pegasi will try to outsmart each other constantly.

Male / Female hatchling - No dimorphism
Hatchling Description
Spoiler
Although cute, aresian hellenic pegasus hatchlings are to be avoided. Unlike other hatchlings that require care, it is best to leave these foals alone. They are rather violent, always seeking to destroy something. As soon as they can walk and feed on their own, the foals are abandoned by their parents. They have no need for love or attention, their focus being elsewhere. Their cunning develops as they grow, making them master strategists in the battles to come. Although most people prefer to keep their distance from these foals, some magis like to observe them. Many consider the destruction the aresian hellenic foals leave in their path a site of knowledge, claiming much can be learned from the way these creatures act. Even if they are aware of the human presence, the hatchlings have little interest in approaching anyone. On the rare occasions they do, it is to participate in already started fights, enjoying the chaos.

Image
Male / Female Adult - No dimorphism
Adult Description
Spoiler
Adult aresian hellenic pegasi are calmer than legends lead one to believe. Although they appear to enjoy the destruction war brings, the adults rarely take part in the violence itself. They are solitary creatures, mating once every few years. The courting process is rather complex, involving the male aresian hellenic pegasus destroying a small bush as a way of impressing the female. As soon as the female gives birth the male leaves, ready for another period of solitary life. The females care for their foals for a short period, as they do not have the patience to tend to their young. They enjoy strategizing, gladly helping those who seek their guidance; if these people prove to be worthy of their attention. Being a symbol of war, destruction, and violence, many fear them. Small villages and secluded tribes burn sage and sing songs in strange languages as a prayer to these pegasi, hoping to be blessed with success in the battles to come. Others make small sacrifices in hopes of another year of strategically avoided battles. Few are those who seek to befriend the adult aresian hellenic pegasi, knowing even fewer were ever able to gain the favors of such a creature.

Probably intentional tbh. Hellenic is another word for Greek, and often used in reference to ancient Greece.
I suspect the name 'Aresian' comes from Ares, the Greek god of war (esp since the description talks about them being symbols of war)
I don't know about the Eleuthyian ones tho and what they're referencing.

oh yes, definitely intentional! Eleuthyian kinda reminds me of Elysium, but I'm sure there's something closer. Eleutheria is another name for Artemis, so perhaps that's it? Would make sense to have them both named after gods
