November Donis: Silvan Picea & Arkenian Picea Deer

Post by Danafox »

Silvan Picea Deer - 3 shard
Image
This egg has a small tree growing from it.

General Description
Spoiler
Recognizable by the the trees growing from their antlers, picea deer are found primarily in the Arkenian region, though smaller herds can be found in the Silva Forest. They have the ability to create snow storms when threatened or even when they do not want to be seen. Picea deer travel in herds, these herds vary in size from a couple dozen, up to a couple thousand. Within these herds the elder female leads the group, her trees towering over the others. These herds can grow so large that the trees growing from their antlers begin to look like a moving forest. These "forests" are home to many creatures, all seeking protection from large predators. While they tend to be shy around magis, if a magi is lost and in need a picea deer will help, allowing a magi protection and will lead them to safety. A deer may also allow a magi to pick some of their pine needles to make a tea with. This tea warms the drinker and keeps them from freezing out in the cold.
Image
male/female - no dimorphism for hatchlings

Hatchling Description
Spoiler
Picea yearlings have full control over their powers as soon as they hatch, making them difficult to capture by any predators, even so, they spend the majority of their time in the protection at the center of the herd. A young picea will begin growing its trees about a year after they hatch. These trees continue to grow their entire life, slowing down once they reach adult hood.
ImageImage
Female / Male - dimorphism for Adults

Adult Description
Spoiler
Standing quite tall, picea deer are a sight to see. Unlike many deer, both male and female grow antlers. These antlers however, are not bone, but a living tree. They keep these trees year round, never shedding them and if one happens to break, it will never grow back. You can always tell a male from a female, not just because of their coloration, but because the females trees grow larger than that of the males. While they are not commonly kept as a companion, if raised from an egg, these deer can become quite attached to their magi. It is always best to have at least two, as they feel much more comfortable and safe when they are close to others of their kind.

Got a female hatchling!

Not sure if there is dimorphism since both mine hatched female so far. Looks very plain, but I bet the adult is going to look amazing! ^.^
