Spoiler
For a long time, ratumbidae were overlooked at the Keep. Incredibly common and seemingly bereft of magic, they were viewed as a nuisance. Their ever-growing numbers, however, encouraged some researchers to study them. The discovery was made that they were surprisingly intelligent, with an excellent sense of direction. Even better, they have an innate sense of magic. They can sense and locate magic, whether it be other magical creatures, individuals with magic, or even magical artifacts. Once this was figured out, they became highly sought after. Once trained, they can seek out long-forgotten magical treasures, or be used to locate potential students for the Keep.

One of the most common and hardy creatures in the world is the ratumbidae. While not particularly appealing to look at, they are respected for their intelligence and their ability to thrive anywhere in the world. They range everywhere, from the coldest reaches of Arkene to the tropical islands of Callisto. They can lay dozens of eggs at a time, and hatchlings grow fast. While they have many natural predators, their prolific breeding means that once they have staked out a place to call home, it is incredibly difficult to get rid of them. Many people see them as pests, or at best, tolerate their presence as they flit overhead or merely scurry, too lazy to fly. Those who take the time, however, can train them to do numerous useful tasks, as they have a keen intellect and the hardiness to complete errands others creatures can't.

Is everyone freezing/hiding these as they hatch or what? IFMN entire blocks of 200 links are coming up as "nothing here". I've never seen that with a new release. Is it because they are supposed to grow so fast as hatchlings?
Slowly working on finishing my creature collection, and adding to breeding pairs for all the creatures I have missed over time...

I really like their design! I think they look much cooler than the fancy colored versions. :D

I've noticed that the stream Ratumbidae do have a slight difference in sprite from the Fancy Russet Ratumbidae. Namely the stream variant has that kind of bump on their beak pigeons have but the donation variant does not.
There might be other slight differences.

(the Fancy Spotted Ratumbidae is a lot more different with the longer feathers that are in a type of fancy pigeon breed I forget the name of.)
