General Description
Spoiler
Avarnae are massive, heavily armored creatures, interlocking plates giving them tremendous durability while their wings and sharp feathers allow them grace. Their strange combination of features has led many to believe that they are a kind of cockatrice. Despite possessing wings, avarnae cannot fly; rather, they use them for balance when rearing up or as part of a threat display. They also use the serrated edges of their wings to cut into the earth as they burrow deep into the ground. Their bodies are tough enough to withstand the high pressure and heat found deep within the earth, where they can dwell among crystals and even diamonds. Many have sought to follow their tunnels in search of riches, or have been led underground by the humming sounds they create as they navigate dark caverns. With two beaks to create humming sounds and two sets of ears to hear echoes, these creatures are able to easily scope out hard to find prey either underground or just above it.

Hatchling Description
Spoiler
An avarna hatchling does not need any caring for, as they are already quite large and armored upon hatching. They seem to know instinctively how to survive, and will begin burrowing into the ground to find caverns to claim as their territory. A learned mage will direct their avarna hatchling somewhere safe and close by. As a result, certain areas of the Keep are riddled with avarna tunnels, and rumors state that if you travel deep enough, the tunnels lead to winding caverns where diamonds sparkle like stars belowground.
Adult Male/Female
Adult Description
Spoiler
Heavenly avarnae are especially hard to find within the caves they call home. They hide in the furthest chambers, particularly those filled with crystal growths. Although heavenly avarnae prefer peaceable environs, they have been known to viciously drive away crystalwings in order to keep their crystal chambers secret and undisturbed. Their senses of sight and smell are poor, so they rely on vibrations in the ground and air to locate food. Each avarna produces its own unique hum, which they emit while hunting to avoid becoming prey to other avarnae, and each head of the avarnae will mingle their sound together to create their unique sound pattern. This sound can become deafeningly loud if the avarnae emerge from the ground, and can carry for miles. Belowground, the sound waves buffet the rock, and the pressure they create can turn rock into shining gemstones that give off light of their own.
