Spell of Cloaking vs. Spell of Protection

Post by Reinbeauchaser »

I've noticed that there is a Spell of Protection and a Spell of Cloaking. Based on Magistream Fandom, they both seem to work the same way, which is to protect hatchlings from growing within their creature tabs when you don't want them to grow. What are the differences/advantages, and does it matter which one to have? Would it be a waste of my gold to purchase both? TIA!
Please do not mine my Keep. However, whatever I have in the Main tab is open for clicks, should you feel so inclined. Thanks for understanding (and for any clicks!)

Protection allows anything in the tab to be seen and clicked without gaining exp, but Cloaking hides the tab completely from anyone but the owner of the Keep.

Protection is extremely useful, especially if you don't want to worry about accidental clicks, snoopers, etc. I only bought Cloaking more recently because I wanted to hide presents.

Cloaking works for hiding creatures that you don't want people to know you have, for whatever reason. Protection was created, I believe, in response to people posting cloaked creatures in the MD. Creatures for sale must be visible for a player to check stats on, and to help with modding of incidents in the MD, but if it's cloaked, only the owner of the tab can see the creature. That being said, it is annoying to try and sell low percent hatchlings, only to have them grow because someone clicked on them. The Spell of Protection solves both issues. The creatures can still be seen by everyone on the site, but they don't grow if they're on a protected tab, so low percent hatchlings stay low percent without freezing.

At least, that's what I think happened with why the Spell of Protection got added. I could be wrong. It's been quite a while now, and I don't remember the thread conversation about it.

Both are very useful so it's not a waste of gold ever to have them. I recommend Protection more though, and Cloaking for only if you actually want to hide things.

Also, Protection is more useful for sales, as has been mentioned. You can always use trades with NPC's to hide things, though having hidden tabs is a little more organized that throwing stuff in trades. But if you're not wanting to spend an extra 75k on a Cloaking Spell, hiding things in trades is a viable option instead. :)

Cloaking is useful for private things, like - the way I use it - stockpiling gifting pets. You want them to be surprises for the people who'll get them.

Protection, in my case, has been more useful for my lending and quest help tabs. Some quests require hatchlings and a lot of people really don't seem to care that those tabs are labeled. They'll gold-mine them anyway, which can be a real pain when you want people to know you have the hatchlings they need and are willing to help - only to find out someone mined and the hatchlings aren't hatchlings anymore. So Protecting them means people can see what you have without the threat of gold-miners.
