egg description
This egg has a colorful fin.

hatchling description
Spoiler
Sea unicorn hatchlings are incredibly gentle and relaxed creatures, and for the first few days of their life will spend all their time merely floating. Soon enough they will begin lashing their tails and gracefully swimming around their surroundings. Hatchlings never get lost, as they spend their first few days of life absorbing information about the waters around them with their magic. When young, their horns are mere nubs, but they will grow as the hatchling ages and come to a sharp point at adulthood. Sometimes sea unicorn hatchlings will ram rocks or coral on purpose, and this might reflect growing pains associated with the horn. Lone hatchlings will often leap out of the water as high as they can, eyes wide open as though trying to use their magic of awareness out of the water. If their magi spends time with them, however, they won’t do this, so this behavior might also just mean they are looking for companionship.
Adult discription
Spoiler
Sea unicorn adults are immensely loyal to their magi, and are not good companions for those magi who do not want to spend a lot of time in the water. For those who can tolerate long deep sea swims, sea unicorns are powerful, playful allies who love nothing more than frolicking with their magi. With one beat of their powerful tails, they can cover vast distances, and will take their magi with them if saddled or if the magi holds on to their fins. While these companions are gentle and careful with their magi, the magi to must be wary of the spines on the zebra and black pearl varieties. The toxin, however, can be made into an analgesic if watered down. Unlike hippocampi, sea unicorns do not grant the ability to breathe underwater. However, they do grant their magi an awareness of their surroundings in water, sensing direction and the presence of other creatures in the water to an uncanny degree. Magi who sail will sometimes dip into the water with their sea unicorn to figure out the correct heading, or if there are any dangerous rocks or shoals nearby. Some magi will meditate with their sea unicorns, trying to see how far their awareness of the oceans can take them.
General discription
Spoiler
While hippocampi tend to roam around the eastern seas, sea unicorns have staked their migration routes along the western coasts of the continent, ranging from the coastal waterways of alveus to the coasts of the volcanic regions of Calidis. Sea unicorns are a very common sight to ocean fishermen, their herds numbering in the hundreds or even thousands, with colorations ranging from a pale white to a deep black and many other varieties in between. These creatures thrive only in saltwater, and dive deep to consume kelp from the ocean floor. They also have a diet for coral, and will use their horns to scrape off bits of it so they can more easily consume it. Sea unicorns have two primary methods of defense that make people, and predators, wary. Their horns and hooves are strong, and no sea unicorn has ever been seen with a broken horn. Rumor has it that their horns are stronger than diamond, but since one has never been successfully removed, it???s hard to prove the rumor as true or false. Despite fears that a pod of these creatures may inadvertently put a hole in a fisherman???s boat, this has never actually occurred. In addition, the manes of the zebra sea unicorn and the black pearl sea unicorn have tiny spines which secrete a toxin that causes a painful stinging sensation. Despite all this, sea unicorns are good-natured and gentle, and have often rescued individuals who have capsized.

Okay, now I'm kind of upset. During one of MS's past contests, I suggested both Flying Pigs and "Aquacorns" (sea unicorns) as creature ideas, and guess what? I didn't win. Not first, second, third, or even an honorable mention. Now my ideas are being implemented, and I am not being given any credit. Granted, more than one person can have the same idea, but if my ideas were good enough to actually be implemented on the site, then why didn't I win the contest?

I love the sprites so far, but I am still sort of pissed. :(

I'd just like to point out that in that same thread, this was also an entry:

https://magistream.com/82-february-mont ... -done.html

And was later similarly implemented as Telvian and Mist Ammits. This wasn't credited either, and I fail to see why it should've been. These ideas aren't exactly copy-written to any one person... The concept of flying pigs and hippocampus with horns isn't exactly new or original, so I fail to see your point.

Edit: They also clarified that winning entries or not, there was no guarantee on them being implemented anyway. Also, the pigs nor the sea unicorns are hybrids.

I'm pretty sure 'hippocampus but with a horn' is NOT an idea unique to you.

I believe there might have been a chance that, at that time, those ideas weren’t what they were going for, which is why you didn’t win. However, it’s still sad that your ideas (or at least the basis of your ideas) are being used right now without credit. Then again, there's still that chance that they didn't realize that this idea had been suggested to them previously.

Still, the creators might have an idea for the hatchllings/adults that differs from your descriptions.

Except that WAS the winning entry, wasn't it? So even though it isn't credited on the creature/Bestiary page itself, everyone should know where the idea came from. Meaning that, if my ideas were good, they, too, should have placed.

The sea unicorns here were made way before that contest. Back in 2014, as far as I could tell looking through behind the scenes. I don’t know why they got put onto the back burner for so long though. D: I’m glad they finally got released. <3
