Creatures #1075-78: Sea Unicorns

The sea unicorns here were made way before that contest. Back in 2014, as far as I could tell looking through behind the scenes. I don’t know why they got put onto the back burner for so long though. I’m glad they finally got released.

Didn't I already say that myself? I literally said, "Granted, more than one person can have the same idea." I never claimed to own an idea. I just am upset that the only contest I've ever even placed in on MS was for baking a pie. Like, really? That's all I'm good for?

Pearl Sea Unicorn

Sea unicorn hatchlings are incredibly gentle and relaxed creatures, and for the first few days of their life will spend all their time merely floating. Soon enough they will begin lashing their tails and gracefully swimming around their surroundings. Hatchlings never get lost, as they spend their first few days of life absorbing information about the waters around them with their magic. When young, their horns are mere nubs, but they will grow as the hatchling ages and come to a sharp point at adulthood. Sometimes sea unicorn hatchlings will ram rocks or coral on purpose, and this might reflect growing pains associated with the horn. Lone hatchlings will often leap out of the water as high as they can, eyes wide open as though trying to use their magic of awareness out of the water. If their magi spends time with them, however, they won’t do this, so this behavior might also just mean they are looking for companionship.

While hippocampi tend to roam around the eastern seas, sea unicorns have staked their migration routes along the western coasts of the continent, ranging from the coastal waterways of alveus to the coasts of the volcanic regions of Calidis. Sea unicorns are a very common sight to ocean fishermen, their herds numbering in the hundreds or even thousands, with colorations ranging from a pale white to a deep black and many other varieties in between. These creatures thrive only in saltwater, and dive deep to consume kelp from the ocean floor. They also have a diet for coral, and will use their horns to scrape off bits of it so they can more easily consume it. Sea unicorns have two primary methods of defense that make people, and predators, wary. Their horns and hooves are strong, and no sea unicorn has ever been seen with a broken horn. Rumor has it that their horns are stronger than diamond, but since one has never been successfully removed, it’s hard to prove the rumor as true or false. Despite fears that a pod of these creatures may inadvertently put a hole in a fisherman’s boat, this has never actually occurred. In addition, the manes of the zebra sea unicorn and the black pearl sea unicorn have tiny spines which secrete a toxin that causes a painful stinging sensation. Despite all this, sea unicorns are good-natured and gentle, and have often rescued individuals who have capsized.

And was later similarly implemented as Telvian and Mist Ammits. This wasn't credited either, and I fail to see why it should've been.

The Mist and Telvian Ammits were also made already in 2014, same as the Sea Unicorns, so they were made well before the competition.

In that case, I think we should have been informed that our ideas wouldn't count and that we should maybe try something else. We could have been told they wouldn't count without revealing or spoiling that they were already going to be creatures.
