Yeah trying to figure out what you mean by 'Rolly-pollys' because I want to do them now. Possibly it is the arthropod we call Pill Bugs or Slaters - wood lice. Also known as armadillo bug. I think ts all the same thing - an armoured many legged short bug that rolls into a tight ball like the egg I did.

They're definitely Pill Bugs - though we always used to call them 'Rolly Bugs'.

We call them roly-polys, sow bugs, pill bugs, or wood louse where I'm from. They're weird little land crustaceans, related to giant marine ispods.

According to their Wikipedia page, they have a lot of lovely names -- butcher boy, cheesy bobs, chucky pig, and monkey-peas are my favorites.

But there are some very pretty rainbow coloured bush roaches here in Oz, they live in the leaf litter and do not infest houses or food like the European red roach does - those I do despise, but lumping an entire species in one category of hate over just one group's bad behaviour seems a bit extreme.

Doesn't matter. I will easily handle spiders, I will calmly deal with centipedes, I have faced down aggressive unleashed dogs unscathed, but not that bug. Full-blown phobia, right down to rooted in a traumatic childhood incident involving the death of a beloved family member.

Though my high school biology class was quite entertained when I interrupted the lecture by screaming and running out the door. Completely blew my rep for being unphased by anything.

And they're actually teeny crustaceans-similar to lobsters and crabs-rather than bugs! I thought that was cool the first time I learned about it b/c I always thought these dudes were funky (I've always called them pill bugs)

Yeah sorry guys - they were made after being inspired by my own annual Summer millipede invasion - The magenta one is a Dragon Millipede and the other is an Amercican Giant. i thought they were pretty for annoying little buggers.

Those are RAD! The first one looks like it should be some weird deep sea creature, and the second one is absolutley beautiful- it looks like an extra long roly-poly in fashion colors, LOL. (actually, I just found out there are pill millipedes! https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pill_millipede )
WIsh we got pretty ones like that around here! All I've ever seen in my area are little brownish millipedes that are so tiny you'd have to be the size of a Barbie doll to find them scary

The pill bugs I remember when I was a kid....were super ultra tiny little things, and they'd roll up into a little ball aka pill. Those were cute.
