I found out a couple days ago, apparently we had parentless White Cukurba appear in the Black Market...I'm hoping they can come back sometime soon, since I totally missed out on those =x and yeah love those parentless hybrids when they show up.

I had to go look - yeah they were around a couple of years ago...and they are still a pain to breed lol.

With the birthday thing and Release Date being so important, including to me, having re-releases or parentless hybrids kind of makes the birthday thing a bit useless, yeah?

On that note, I feel like parentless hybrids completely defeat the purpose of what a hybrid is: "the offspring of two plants or animals of different species or varieties, such as a mule (a hybrid of a donkey and a horse)."

Hybrids are meant to be obtained from two different species of parents. Making them parentless completely defeats their definition. I don't understand why there are even parentless ones (aside from the site crash, which I read about).

Not really a complaint, just my opinion on the matter lol.

The Parentless thing started after a glitch took out most of the hybrids several years ago. As a way of 'restoring' pets, Mods generated hybrids to replace those lost. Over time a Parentless Hybrid born of the glitch became a "collectable" item. And people in the shops began to complain that a first gen hybrid wasn't /really/ a first gen - since the parent species gens counted - which means that the shop people were being "forced" to sell them for lower prices because the people who own shops cared more about Low Generation = Higher Prices than anything.

My main issue with the BM is the hybrids, not the concept of them being sold at all but the execution of it.

The hybrids are usually boring on their own and almost always overpriced for what you're actually getting. 20k is too much for a novelty version of the same exact sprite I can get for almost nothing only one gen down the line. They also have no utility value, their offspring won't make any more gold than a regular pairing so it's not like users are able to make anything off of them either. They're just too expensive, useless, and uninteresting for me to like them being around, if they only costed a max of 15k outside of special cases and came alongside other stuff i'd be far happier about them taking up a slot in the BM.

I'd personally prefer the BM focusing on hard to get events and doni recolors, they're very interesting, useful, and the doni recolors are always reasonably priced.

I don't pretend to speak for the Mods, but I do suspect that that is why Parentless Hybrids were first sold in the Black Market. To bring the User's Shops in line with something of a reasonable cost and end the 500 variants of "First Gen Pure" and "Unadulterated Bloodline" listings. The Shop people are weird and nitpicky as hell sometimes.

Me, I'm fine with hybrids, when I don't think of them as hybrids. I see them as color morphs and variants, the same as when we have the same creature in 4 different colors, like our new hippogryphs. I prefer that to hybrids anyway. Most of our hybrids are not hybrids. They're color morphs, like the ice and fire gryphons, despite their lineage, so I am just fine with parentless. They don't have any changes except color and maybe a small amt of background. A real hybrid would be a creature who looks like a mix, like direcores and stuff. Those should not be parentless, imo. Those are based on pedigree after all. It should just be noted to all that they're not going to come into parentless, regardless of the complaints.

But you can just breed them from your own creatures if you like your hybrids to have a pedigree, whereas I would be unable (or unwilling) to breed them, and so they would be missing from my collection forever. At least if they're offered in the Black Market, we can both get what we want. This is not to say that we shouldn't get rereleases of old Donis or recolors or even brand new creatures in the Black Market. I think there should be a balance of all of them.

I'm kind of the same way with Pokemon, actually. I don't like my Pokemon to be bred, so egg moves are very annoying to me. I really don't know what it is.
