April Midmonth ~ Meridian Delphis

It's the 13th here where I live as of this moment (4:30am to be exact R.I.P.)
But since I see no topic yet I think it'd be a good time to speculate? Yeah we just got the snails and they'll be around for a little while still, but hey, who knows~

Any thoughts? Ideas? We're just starting to have our snow melt and I'll be visiting St.Petersburg in not too many days, so I'm all about that Russian culture at the moment. Would be interesting to see something with cultural vibes or anything historical overall :2 And hey, how about an opossum? Or a wallaby?

Meridian Delphis

This gold-streaked egg is damp but warm.

Meridian delphis like nothing more than to float at the top of the ocean, soaking up the rays of the sun to charge the golden patterns on their skin. These patterns provide light during dark nights and when the delphis dives in search of food. They're found mostly in the warmer areas of the world, where they can get as much sun as they want, but some delphis have been known to travel north for short periods. Intelligent and curious, they're usually friendly to magi they encounter on the water and seem to enjoy working out different ways to communicate.

Image {No dimorphism}

A meridian delphis hatchling is small but active almost immediately, and seems to instinctively know how to both swim underwater and breathe air. Their patterns are usually pale and small, but expand to cover their bodies as they grow. In the wild, hatchlings are raised in pods in order to protect them from ocean predators; as delphis are social creatures, magi should ensure they have at least one other companion if raising one without the benefit of a pod. Most hatchlings do best with creatures of a similar or slightly larger size, as they can be bullies if not taught from a young age. When in a pod or with companions, hatchlings enjoy floating on top of the water and whistling complicated tunes, though this can be grating on the ears.

Adult meridian delphis are roughly the size of the average adult magi, though they're much more powerful. Magi travelling on the ocean often see delphis jumping and playing around the boat at night, the glowing patterns on their skin casting light a surprising distance. When not hunting or playing, delphis spend their time sunbathing, preferably in protected coves of shallow water. Wild pods have been known to help fishermen catch fish, for a share of the haul; fishermen who get greedy will often have water spit at them with unerring accuracy, or even have their boats tipped over. Meridian delphis can also often be spotted near beaches, where they play with swimmers and protect them from predators.

Now which opossum would you be referring to: the Australian or the American? The American one is horrifying.

the opossum is the north american species, the australian ones are just possums :) i'd be happy with either though the australian brush tailed possums are adorable <3 i'd love possums of some sort, the rd is on my bd!

also something flowery would be cool (i love the flower based critters like the snails and the rosa doves)
