June Donis - Abyssal & Basalt Chromodor Leviathans 683 & 684

Post by Xeron »

something living in forests... Jungle beasts... what have you.... go about guessing!

3-shard
Abyssal Chromodor Leviathan

Image
Spoiler
This egg has bright, squishy fins.
Male//Female
Image Image
Spoiler
Abyssal chromodor leviathan hatchlings, much like their adult counterparts, do not move much. They can take an entire day to travel from one end of a tank to another as they graze, feeding on anything they find. They grow quickly, and in very short order they must be introduced to the oceans, where they will sink to the bottom and out of sight. Hatchlings raised at the Keep, however, will return often to their magi, floating to the surface to greet their magi before sinking again. Unlike the adults, hatchlings remain in one area of the ocean year round, picking up the slack of cleaning the ocean floor while the adults are away.
Male//Female

Spoiler
Abyssal chromodor leviathans are seldom seen by anyone, and for most of history were considered a myth. It was only when a dedicated explorer with powerful water magic descended to the depths of underwater caves in Callisto that these behemoths were discovered and their eggs brought to the Keep. Adults will consume anything they find on the ocean floor, and some magi theorize that the leviathans achieve their immense size and gorgeous coloring from sunken magical artifacts the leviathans find and consume. A magi who is in tune with their leviathan will often be able to sense if something is amiss beneath the ocean waves, or if something has disturbed the currents, such as a building storm.
General:
Spoiler
Despite their great size, rivaling a sailing ship, and potentially fearsome strength, abyssal chromodor leviathans are incredibly gentle, almost to the point of being slothlike. They are content to remain on the ocean floor and move very slowly, consuming debris they find there. They do not bother with other species, and luckily for them they are far too large to be seen as food by any deep sea predator. The eating habits of the abyssal chromodor leviathan are believed to be the reason the waters around the Callisto Islands are so clear. It is said that they can descend to the deepest oceans, where not even light from the sun penetrates. Once a year in the winter, coinciding with a great ripple through the water, these creatures spread their wing-like fins and let themselves be carried by the ocean currents to parts unknown. They return in the spring, sometimes in greater numbers than before.

Basalt chromodor leviathans are even harder to find in the wild than their abyssal counterparts, as they are drawn to the warmest parts of the ocean floor, clustering around submarine volcanoes. It is said that they can withstand temperatures that boil the water around them. Still think a Sloth Bear would be amazing. :D

Or something more rainbow colored, like the Puvia and Spectrum Crystalwings. Can never have too many rainbows! :D

I would love some donation elephants :yarly:

Or, of course, more bats. Always more bats. Or rats. But if I'm going down that train of thought, I would really like some of those in July for my birthday

A long time ago, when the Earth was green,
There was more kinds of animals than you've ever seen.
And they'd run around free when the Earth was being born,
And the loveliest of 'em all was the unicorn.
Thought I'd put that up there XD

Although... we don't seem to have any crocodiles as such (Sohbek seems to be an alligator)... wouldn't mind something based off the saltwater croc.
