Feeling so stupid, was bawling and crying and it's over something so so stupid, but I can't help but cry a bit.
My hubby got hacked on a gacha game that we both play together. We both have been playing it for the past 5 months and it gave us so much happiness and bonding and was a shared activity that we had together. And now that has been completely destroyed.
They ruined his account in a few ways, they spent currency that costs real money but that was earned for free and was saved for probably two months (50 wishes) and they spent all of them. On top of that, there's this other currency you earn by when you summon (aka wish) and this is much harder to get currency and he has been saving that for the past 3 months or longer and they spent all of that on more wishes (aka being able to summon stuff more). So they effectively ruined his way to wish for anything for free.....There was a new character that was going to come in a couple of weeks and he was going to use his currency for that and now that has been ruined and the only way to fix it is to spend real life money.
And then the nail on the coffin, this is a RPG game with characters who use weapons, the weapons need to be leveled up to gain power aka make character stronger.....He had only 3 ultra special weapons that were 5 star weapons (aka the best and strongest weapons currently in the game and they were all earned for free due to his previous savings/lucky wishes) and the hacker decided to be a jerk and he destroyed the weapons (something that the game should never have implemented but they did). So now his strongest characters have effectively gone to shit because now they don't have weapons (or at least not those powerful ones, and honestly he didn't have many to replace those with either).
Point is they ruined the game for him and he took measures to secure his account tonight so he might have "saved" his account from being stolen, but now he is pissed off and he is quitting the game entirely. He doesn't want us spending any more money on our accounts (we spent some but there's people who stream on youtube who literally have spent thousands like think in the 10s or 20 thousands or more, we only spent a couple hundred but that's being put to a stop now).
And I'm being stupid and crying because this was our favorite game together, it gave us bonding and something fun to do together that we could share and now I might have to quit the game, and there was going to be upcoming events/patch with a big content update and new characters that we both were looking forward to and now it's been taken away from both of us, just because of some random asshole online that neither of us know.
Something that was giving us both joy was now ripped away and we both found out about this hack just a couple hours ago. He was logging in to play and that's when he called me to ask if I had done stuff on his account, when I said no, he panicked and that's when we both found out. He is working a night shift right now and he is pissed off and depressed. And I'm here being stupid and having moments where the tears run down my face and I feel at fault somehow. I warned him months ago when these hacks to this game were happening and I was worried about his account, I told him to go do things to make it more secure but my warning fell on deaf ears. He didn't listen to me and now his account got fucked. sigh....
He still could play and fix the account, but it wouldn't be as strong as it used to be...also he wouldn't want to spend any money so the only way to fix this, would be to pour 5 months worth of time playing for free to be able to get anything worth a damn back....He secured the account now...maybe it could be saved...but I honestly don't blame him if he doesn't want to...and I know my husband...this act tonight destroyed his love for this game. And I guess I am crying because someone hurt my husband and me and I couldn't do anything to stop it and I just feel so shitty and I couldn't even keep playing the game, I left my characters idle for hours and I just couldn't have fun knowing that he won't be able to ever log in to play with me and have fun again.
How fucking stupid to cry over this right? A grown ass woman crying and a grown ass man depressed and pissed off over a fucking game. god dammit *sigh*
And please don't judge us. We do spend time together as a normal couple, doing all the normal things, but this particular game was our current special thing and losing it like this just really sucks. He has never been hacked in any game ever so this really stings hard for him.
I'm depressed as hell now and probably going to clean stuff around the house and then sleep once he gets home from his night shift.
If you're talking about Genshin Impact (which I also play) this is really, really common, and stupidly frustrating. The company's security is an absolute joke.
It is possible you can save your husband's account by contacting customer support, especially since you guys paid real money. If you check the Genshin Impact reddit, there are a lot of stories about people being hacked and descriptions of what they did to try to salvage their accounts--although not all were successful, unfortunately. While the game they produce is great, the company is pretty bad at pretty much every other aspect of online game management.
You're totally justified in feeling sad (though if it were me I'd be livid). Being the recipient of casual cruelty, even on a game, really sucks.
If you do decide to quit the game entirely, see if you can do a credit card charge back for what you spent. Most gacha games will ban you for doing a charge back, but if the company has such horrible practices, doesn't secure your purchases, and you're going to quit anyway, may as well try to get your money back.
