Re: How Was Your Day Thread V5
Somehow I lost my work ID last night, without leaving my house. It is nowhere to be found. I've cleaned half the house and trashed the other half looking, it's killing me. I work this weekend and can't get in after hours without it.

Re: How Was Your Day Thread V5
Anyone with insomnia have any helpful tips?
Spoiler
I've been suffering sleeplessness for a couple months now. First it was on and off, now it's more constant. It's starting to interfere with work also, as I find myself calling out more than usual, due to laying in bed awake all night and being unable to sleep. In the afternoons, I can manage a nap. But that only lasts a couple hours, before I'm awake again. (At least my job is waiving their attendance policy due to covid).
Sleep aids don't seem to work... I've tried Tylenol PM, Unisom and even Benadryl. Unisom used to work but I'm fairly certain my body is too used to it for it to work now. I've even tried getting lavender essential oils for my diffuser and running it while I sleep, eating way before I have to sleep and drinking only the tiniest amount of water leading up to bedtime... I've even tried lulling myself to sleep by having my Google Assistant play rain sounds. I keep my room cool, there's usually no noise, I even have a new bed I bought late last year. I shower, change my sheets... anything I can possibly do to try and get a good sleep. And I just lay there for hours. I don't get it. It's not like my mind won't turn off. Thoughts at night aren't keeping me up and I don't feel really stressed.
Sometimes I get so frustrated with myself over it. -o- Once my mom gets up, I'm gonna ask her for her primary doctor's info, so I can make an appointment and see about getting a prescription sleep aid. Something has to work. In the meantime, I guess I'll try other otc sleep aids, like melatonin gummies or Zzzquil. -o-

Re: How Was Your Day Thread V5
My dad is complaining how I "want him on call at all hours"/"refuse to make the slightest change in [my] schedule [for him]" and its like. Dad. I literally have to do everything on your terms. Call before 3pm, or wait until an invitation after 10-11pm. With my chronic illness, I feel best at late afternoon-early evening, you know, and he knows that, but no, I have to have it 100% on his schedule or he throws a very literal (verbal) fit/tantrum.
Also, I'm mad at myself for not being good about my journaling today. >:/

This is gonna sound far-fetched to most people, but it helps me when I'm having trouble getting to sleep.Azima wrote:Anyone with insomnia have any helpful tips?

I get comfy in bed and close my eyes and TELL (internally) myself to sleep, slowly and repeatedly, both my body and my mind, I imagine everything relaxing and just drift off before I know it. Like soothing and soft "Sleep......sleep......sleep".
Idk it's really weird but it works for me

Re: How Was Your Day Thread V5
I would definitely try melatonin; they tend to work for me. Soothing tea before bedtime can be helpful too, especially if it's hot and with milk. When I get bad insomnia, I try to listen to ASMR, usually ones with no talking (I can't stand the sound of lip smacking ). I listen to it before I go to sleep because it leaves me in a clam and drowsy state. I know it's not for everyone, but you might be able to find some kind of "trigger" that works for you. As for other background noise, I'd recommend the white noise used for the Starship Enterprise on Star Trek. There's like a 10 hr version on YouTube. I listened to this when I had terrible bouts of anxiety, which would keep me up all night. For a while, it was the only thing that kept me from flying into a panic attack before sleeping.Azima wrote:Anyone with insomnia have any helpful tips?

I love my melatonin. It only really works when you're laying down, making an attempt at relaxing for sleep. With that, I play a 10 hour of gentle rain or snow/winter winds sometimes.

Re: How Was Your Day Thread V5
Someone mentioned white noise? Here are some sites I use, though I've never tried them for insomnia - just for noise-blocking and combating anxiety.
https://mynoise.net/noiseMachines.php - Loads and loads of sound generators. Has some of everything - tonal drones, natural sounds, music, and more. (My personal favorite is Sleeping Dragon.) Some donator-only options, but much of the site is free. There's also an app, which might have moved to subscription only.
https://www.youtube.com/user/audiosampling/featured - YouTube channel for the above site.
https://purrli.com/ - A customizable cat purr for anyone who might be missing their kitty.

Re: How Was Your Day Thread V5
So, short background: I work at a claim processing center for a mortgage lender. Depending on circumstance, customer need to endorse their property claims check and mail them to us along with documents for us to reissue out the funds payable to them and their contractors for tax reasons and other lender reasons.
Now.
Twice this week.
Twice.
Two times.
I have had a customer call and ask why we haven't issued their funds yet only to tell me they haven't sent their claims check to us yet.
Two people have asked me why we don't have what they haven't given us.
