Fairywood Prep (story/fanfic)

Post by Kor21 »

This is a story I'm still kind of in the progress of writing...it's not even close to perfect yet. I would really appreciate some feedback. Leave a review if you happen to have time.
It's inspired by a combination of Ever After High and Disney's Descendants.

Chapter One ~ Rise and Shine

Roe awoke slowly as she heard a knock at her door. The princess stood up, glancing in the mirror as she did. She gasped at her bed-head and the darkened lines under her eyes.
“Whoever it is better be in life-threatening danger; otherwise you'll have to wait.” She snapped at the person on the other side of her bedroom door.
“The queen requested you miss.” They responded. It was the voice of one of the maidservants.
Roe grumbled. “Tell her I'll be right down.” She called to the maidservant.
“Yes, miss.” The maid replied. Roe hurried to the bathroom to wash up. She did up her hair and applied her signature red lipstick. She smiled at her reflection before getting dressed and heading downstairs.

She found her mother; Queen Snow White, famous for being “the fairest of them all”, sitting at the long dining table, eating her breakfast.
“Hey, mom.” Roe greeted.
“Roe.” Queen Snow acknowledged. “Please have a seat. You know it gets tiring having to send a maid for you every single morning.” She said. Roe could tell by the look in her eyes that she wasn't as upset as she may sound. Roe felt a smile as she slid into one of the over-cushioned chairs, to the left of her mother.
“Did you have something specific you wanted this morning?” She asked, reaching over to take a piece of her mother's muffin. She put it in her mouth, savoring every bit of its flavor. Queen Snow gave her daughter a disapproving look.
“Roe, please. At least try to act like a Royal.” She said.
Roe ignored the comment as a maid brought out her breakfast; a bagel and an extra-foam latte. Roe nodded approvingly before biting into her bagel.
“All that aside; I did have something to discuss with you.” Queen Snow said after taking a sip of her tea. Roe waited for her mother to continue.
“It's about your coronation.” She said.
“What now?” Roe groaned.
“Well, it's required for you to graduate Year Eleven before taking the throne.” Queen Snow replied.
“How is that worth discussing? I'm already in Year Ten at Forest Academy, and I'm only becoming Queen when I turn seventeen.” Roe replied.
“That may be, but that's not the issue here.” Queen Snow said, keeping her voice mellow as usual.
“Well, then what is?” Roe asked, picking up her bagel again.
“You need a Degree from Fairywood Prep.” The Queen said candidly.
Roe dropped the pastry, her mouth hanging open. “What?” Is all she could say.
“It's required by law that any Royal wishing to become King or Queen must graduate from Fairywood Prep with an A average or higher. I sent your application a week ago and I just got the acceptance letter.” Queen Snow responded calmly.
“I can't go to Fairywood Prep—I'd...I'd...” Roe trailed off, trying to think of a rational reason. “I just can't.” She finished.
“Yes you can and you will. The maids are already packing your luggage; you leave at noon.”
“But mother--”
“None of that.” The Queen said, holding up a perfectly manicured finger. Roe clenched her teeth. Her mom was using that “no-nonsense” voice that only ever came out when she really meant business. Roe gave an exaggerated sigh as she stomped back up to her room.

A few hours later, Princess Roe found herself in a limousine driving through the huge gates of Fairywood Prep. The school was owned and run by Cinderella and Charming—who were also the King and Queen of Caredon. The limo pulled to a stop in the large, fully-groomed courtyard preceding the campus; filled with statues, foliage, huge trees and a large fountain. An attendant opened the door for her. Stepping out, she tried hard not to admire the amazing school campus. It was huge—three or four times as big as Forest Academy. The main building stood tall and proud in the middle, with the dorms attached on either side. Roe blinked, and then took her purse from the attendant.
“Princess Rose, welcome to Fairywood Prep.” Headmistress Charming—better known as Queen Cinderella—greeted, walking up. Her attire was business professional, but with a hint more enchantment to it.
“Hi,” Roe replied, forcing herself to smile. No matter how impressive the campus, she was still not happy to be here.
“Gerald, take Princess Rose to the dorms immediately.” Headmistress Charming told the attendant to her right. “We don't want to keep that fair face out in the sun too long,” Headmistress Charming said with a laugh. Roe's hand shot to her face. She realized the Headmistress had been joking, but she was quite particular about her complexion. Gerald led her to the girls' dormitory, carrying her bags. They reached her room and he unlocked the door.
“Welcome to your new dorm your majesty; room 4-B.” He said, holding out his hand. She walked in, looking around at the classy and enchanting style of the decor.
The attendant set down her bags. “Your schedule and room key are on the desk, along with all the information you'll need for your first day of school tomorrow.” He said. “Well settle in. Have a good evening.” He finished, preparing to go out the door.
“Thank you,” Roe replied. He nodded as he closed the door behind him. Not a minute after Roe had collapsed onto the plush cushions of the bed was there a knock at the door. Roe grumbled as she got up to open it.
“Hello!” A perky voice greeted.
“Hi,” Roe replied. There in front of her was Princess Megan; Daughter of Merida.
“Welcome to Fairywood Prep!” Megan said, beaming. “I'm Princess Megan—as you know, and I'm very pleased to meet you, Princess Rose,” She said. “I'm in room 5-B, right beside yours. Anyway, I should go. It was great to meet you!” Princess Megan said, not even stopping once for breath. Then she left. Roe shook her head as she closed the door. It was going to be a very long year.

Chapter Two ~ Blue Bloods and Villain's Children

Roe woke up to her alarm clock buzzing. She looked at the time—it was seven o'clock; am. She was used to sleeping in until at least nine. She growled at the alarm clock as she pounded her fist on the snooze button. What numbskull set this thing to go off so early?
The alarm stopped finally and she drifted back to sleep. Only fifteen minutes later it started ringing again. “Ugh!” She growled again, kicking off her covers and getting out of bed. Then she realized; Oh mirrors! I'm late for class! She hurried to her walk-in closet, filled to the brim with all of her favorite clothes and accessories. She got dressed in no time and did her hair and makeup just as quickly. She was just out the door when she realized she'd forgotten her schedule and book-bag. She ran back to get them and then hurried off to her first class.

By the time lunch period rolled around, Roe had been late for three of her morning-period classes, due to teachers keeping her late to discuss punctuality. She got in line for food, right behind the very tall, very handsome Prince Adrian, son of Ariel. The line moved forward slowly as the students chose among the various dishes. Roe chose a simple turkey salad and water—the morning's events kept her from having a real appetite. She could never eat properly when things went wrong. She took her tray, starting to search for a place to sit. Princess Megan waved at her from her table. Sitting with Megan was Princess Peony; daughter of Pocahontas, Prince Adrian, Prince Niall; son of Rapunzel, and Prince Ashton; son of Cinderella and his sister Princess Caitlin. Roe shrugged and started over. Everyone else stared at her as she sat down—especially the boys. Her mother's reputation of “fairest of them all” had been passed down to her after all, so she hardly even noticed. It was completely normal.
“Hi Princess Rose,” Caitlin greeted with her annoyingly bright smile. Roe forced on an equally bright smile. “Hi.” She acknowledged.
“You know everyone here don't you?” Caitlin asked.
“Yeah, I've heard of all of you,” Roe answered. Caitlin looked satisfied.
“Of course you have! We're only the children of the most famous royals.” She said. “And you're one of us.” She added, looking around the table.
“Us?” Roe asked, feeling one of her brows raise.
“Well yeah! We're all royals—Blue-Bloods. We rule this school and pretty soon we'll all have our own kingdoms. And now, you're one of us too.” Caitlin answered.
“What; is there some kind of special club for royal kids?” Roe asked sarcastically. She still didn't understand completely.
“No of course not. But we are the future kings and queens—why shouldn't we stand apart from the other students?” Peony asked.
“Oh,” Roe said. “Well, what about everyone else? If we're the Blue-Bloods, what does that make them?”
“Average students who were fortunate to be enrolled. That's all.” Ashton answered. Roe couldn't believe it. They seemed to think that just because they had the right to wear crowns and boss other people around meant they were better than everyone else.
“Hey, if you'll all excuse me I think I have some other people to talk to.” She stood up, hiding just how unimpressed she was. She definitely didn't like their attitude towards the other, non-royal students. She picked up her tray and began looking for another table. She was so busy looking for an empty seat that she smashed right into someone; her turkey salad spilling all over them.
“Oh by Dopey, I'm so sorry!” Roe shrieked, her face heating up. She didn't normally get embarrassed that easily, but after she looked up and saw the victim of her clumsiness she couldn't help it. It was Jackal James Hook Junior, better known as Hook; the most handsome, most attractive Villain's Child in all of the kingdoms.
“No worries. I mean I've always liked turkey; why not wear it?” Jackal responded sarcastically. Right—Villain's Child = super sarcastic and cynical. Roe thought to herself.
“Well if you like it all over your clothes I guess I don't have to worry about getting you a napkin.” She countered, even more sarcastically. She couldn't help staring into his eyes though. Cold, sky blue and thickly lined with black makeup in pirate tradition. Not all pirates kept it, but those who did were normally the more vain ones who liked to draw attention to themselves. Suddenly Jackal waved a hand in front of Roe's face.
“Yes, I know they're lovely but they'll burn holes in you if you keep staring.” He said, cracking a lopsided smirk. Roe quickly reverted her eyes, realizing that she had been staring.
“Wait a second—you're the new girl eh?” He asked, pulling out his golden hook and using it to lift her chin. She yanked her head away. “At least you have enough brains to figure that out.” She snapped. She looked at him again, taking in just how handsome he was. She reverted her eyes, trying to stay upset.
“Well no one told me you'd be so...spunky...is all,” Jackal said with a shrug, smirking again.
“I am, so deal with it.” She responded. A couple of the nearby students had already stopped to watch. Roe ignored them.
“So, are you a Blue-Blood or an Average then? Or neither? With an attitude like that, I'd more assume you to be Villain.” He said. Roe was actually pleased by this remark. She considered it a compliment, especially coming from an actual VC. “I'm Royal, but I'm definitely not a Blue-Blood.” She replied.
Hook smiled. “Well then come with me. There's room at our table,” He said, his voice soft for the first time during the entire conversation. He seemed a lot more human when he wasn't using that over-zealous, power-hungry, flirtatious pirate voice. Roe followed him to one of the back tables. He sat down sideways on the bench, grabbing a wad of napkins to take care of the salad still stuck to the red-leather jacket he wore.
“Who's this fair bit of heaven?” Peyton; the son of Peter Pan, asked as Roe sat down.
“Princess Rose.” She answered, not paying much attention to his flirtatious comment.
“How wouldn't you know that Peyton; she's Snow White's daughter.” Felicia; daughter of Fauna fairy, asked, flicking him on the back of his head. Peyton glared at her.
“Guys, chill.” Quiniver, daughter of the Queen of Hearts, demanded, not looking up from her book.
“So I guess you're all Averages and VC's?” Roe asked.
“What's it to you? I mean it's not like a Blue-Blood like you would understand.” Parker, son of Pinocchio, scowled from across the table. His freckle-covered face held a displeased expression.
“Hey, hello, guys; reading here. Keep it down please.” Quiniver said, holding up her pointer but still not looking up.
“Quin, put that thing away.” Hook said, grabbing it from her.
“How dare you.” Quiniver scolded, narrowing her eyes. Roe knew she was just fooling around though. Fortunately, Quiniver seemed to have better control of her temper than her mother; who was constantly shouting “off with their heads!”.
“Quiniver, aren't you a Blue-Blood? Your mom's a queen.” Roe said after it clicked in her mind.
“Nope, not around here. I'm a VC, courtesy of my wicked mother.” Quiniver answered, reaching for her book. Hook didn't seem to want to give it back, so he simply stashed it in his satchel. Quin rolled her eyes and gave an exaggerated sigh.
“Rose, why are you even sitting here anyway? Shouldn't you be with the rest of your kind?” Parker asked.
“Parker, stop it. If she wants to sit here she can.” Felicia scolded him again.
“No, it's fine. But I don't want any part of those Blue-Bloods. They're nothing but a bunch of over-pampered purse dogs.” Roe said, looking over her shoulder to see them.
“Well good, at last, a royal who doesn't expect us to bow in her presence,” Parker said.
“They never wanted us to bow to them.” Peyton corrected. A single lock of his red-brown hair fell over his eye. He ignored it, his dark brown eyes focused on Roe.
“So I guess you guys all have a mutual disrespect for one another?” Roe guessed.
“What gave that away?” Quin asked sarcastically. She fiddled lazily with a bit of her blackish brown hair. Roe couldn't help but study Hook as he ate. The gold loop through his left ear glistened in the sun pouring in through the skylight, as did the hook he kept nearby. He certainly had a lot of his father in him, although he was definitely better looking than James Hook Senior.
“You want to know why I'm in this group?” Felicia suddenly asked.
“Why?” Roe asked.
“Because Hook wanted me to join,” Felicia said dreamily as she leaned against the pirate's shoulder, closing her eyes.
“Or so she thinks,” Hook added, ignoring Felicia.
Roe felt the need to laugh. Hook didn't seem to mind that every girl within two yards of him was staring at him.
“You joined because you hate Blue-Bloods. Just like the rest of us.” Parker said.
“I don't hate anything,” Felicia argued, her brown eyes popping open as she jerked up.
“And you never even could, love,” Peyton said gently. Felicia smiled at him, then looked back at Hook; the glazed-over expression returning to her eyes. Peyton didn't look pleased with the lack of attention.
Quin straightened up. “Anyway, since lunch is almost over now Hook; may I please have my property back?” She asked. Hook chuckled as he slid his hand into his satchel. He returned her book and she went back to her reading.
“Move over,” A female's voice suddenly said from behind Roe. She turned her head to see Emery; daughter of the Evil Queen, standing there impatiently. “Well, get on with it.” She demanded, motioning with her hand. Roe slid over reluctantly, and Emery sat down. “Those Blue-Bloods get more and more annoying every day.” She grumbled.
“If you didn't always insist on talking to them you wouldn't be so bothered.” Shane; son of Shan Yu, said, sitting down next to Parker. Emery didn't seem to hear him. “I mean puh-lease; I'm a royal too.” She said, continuing with her complaining.
“You two need to stop trying to convince them to accept you,” Parker told Shane and Emery.
“Ugh, stay out of this Woody.” Emery snapped.
“Hey; I'm a real boy,” Argued Parker.
“Stop it.” Hook demanded, pointing his hook at Parker. “You guys should remember we Averages and VCs still outweigh the Blue-Bloods five to one.”
“Yeah well no thanks to Rose here,” Parker said, scowling at her again.
“It's Roe thank you very much, and I'm not a blue-blood. I may be Royal, but I'll never be one of them. And Hook's right. Stop dwelling on everything wrong and try being optimistic. I mean look around; we get to attend the most amazing Prep school in all the kingdoms and you're...complaining...” She trailed off, realizing she had done the same thing after finding out she'd be coming to Fairywood. “The point is, you all need to try looking on the bright side of things.” She finished.
“Actually that's not what I meant, I just meant that we're still stronger than the Blue-Bloods.” Hook put in. Roe glared at him out of the corner of her eye. Roe decided than and there that she needed to help end the tension between the Averages and VCs and the Blue-Bloods.
