Maybe that's why

Hello darlings, this is a work of writing by yours truly. I hope you enjoy, and please, I only say this because this has happened in the past.

His smile was gorgeous, the way he rambled about random facts. How his eyes lit up, and his tone of his voice raised to a higher pitch. How he correct everyone, not to be rude, to simply help them. The games he played. I could go on...

Maybe that's why I did it.

He'd walked into that cellar with his gun raised, his steps careful. It was so dark, I could barely see his features from six feat away. I'd have clicked my flash light on, but that would risk lives. Deeper he walked into the cellar, careful to move around shelves and boxes. I couldn't see his face.

Deeper and deeper he walked, now I couldn't see four feet in front of me. Where'd he go? I didn't see or hear him. But I had to focus on not knocking anything over, not running into something- I couldn't afford to make a sound. A beam of light cut through the darkness, shining through the cracks of the shelves around me. Peering though the cracks, it came from the far back.

That's when yelling began.

"Come closer and I shoot!"

"You don't want to do that." He said, he sounded so calm. Unlike my heart, it was pounding- I swear it was up to my throat now.

"I said don't come closer!"

I was trying to get to him as quietly as I could, but when I saw him, my whole world stopped. He was trying to get to the man, a gun aimed at him as well. I guess he thought he could talk him down for a few moments more, but the man was fast. He already had his arm raised and his finger pulled the trigger-

A gunshot ran out. Then a second.

I heard yelling, couldn't hear the words. I saw the ceiling, how did I end up on the ground? Was he okay? He got shot...The voice was frantic, I felt a pressure on my chest. Then the pain came.

White hot pain, the pain that makes you feel as if you were on fire. Like a heated knife was digging into my chest. A scream, that's what I'd heard. Oh wait, that's me. My vision started clearing up, like the pain was waking me up. There he was, crouched beside he and apply pressure to my chest.

I'd jumped in front front of him, that's what happened. The Unsub, he had that woman close to him. He shot at him, but my body moved on its own. I'd shot him too, was he dead? I'm getting tired.

"You need to stay awake, the medic is on it's way!" I was starting to have trouble, staying awake.

"Please hang on," I was struggling now.

"Why did you do that? Why would you jump in front of me!" Looking into his teary brown eyes, I realized. I loved his smile, the way he rambled, how smart and funny he was- if a bit dorky. How he cared, how he beat me in nearly every game, I loved it. I wish I could say all this, but my body was going numb. He's still crying, trying to keep me awake. I didn't have much time.

So, I leaned up and kissed him gently, smiling and placing my hand onto of his. Black started to cloud my vision, I could only see parts of his eyes now. I didn't want to leave, but I didn't want him to have been shot. I love him. God I loved him.

So with the last of my strength, and every inch of will power. I muttered a single line.

"...Maybe that's why I did it, Reid."

The character used does not belong to me. Dr. Spencer Reid is a fictional character from the show "Criminal Minds" by Jeff Davis.
The reader is anyone who reads, including myself.

I highly doubt this would happen (again) but...
