Kittens [Incomplete Short story]

Post by Sleepydeepy »

[This was originally for a quest but unfortunately I ran out of time to submit the story so I didn't finish it.]
[Thank you for reading, bye bye  ]

A large man cover in coats and woven furs makes his was across a barren road. A lean, ebony Tokotas trots behind him in toe, his busy tail wagging behind him with each step. The tokotas’s pelt was a dark grey, shifting to a lighter shade near his paws. A large Bridle was resting upon his head matching the large leather-bound saddle that was scarcely fashioned upon the tokotas’s back. Small herb bags and other assortments hung from the saddle.

Slowing down to a stop, Brooke smiles, turning to the Tokotas with a hum, “Sit." With a bark of command, the Takotas sits down obediently, his tail flopping with a thud onto the floor.

“I will be back, WAIT, Okay,” He response sternly, giving the Tokotas a little pat on the side before waddling into the store.

Walking into the shelter Brooke strolls up to the counter, humming as he leans over and resting his arms against the desk.

“Good evening,” The man hums gently, causing the unexpected women to jolt up from the computer, blinking up at him.

“Good evening sir, how may I help you?” The receptionist inquiries, looking at Brooke with wide eyes, eyeing the pelts on him rather cautiously.

Brooke smiles, brustling underneath his furs while he leans onto the counter smiling polietly at the girl, “yes, I heard you were looking for a foster home for some little kits and I was hoping to apply? “He mutters.

Oh! Yes! Please, but first- “ The girl- a quick glance at the name tag says her name is Haylee- begins, leaning over and quickly tapping on the bulky computer, “-I just need to print out a couple of forms for you to fill, which may take a couple of minutes- Our printer is a bit old, “ She sighs, looking over at the printer hopefully. And within a moment the old machine began to rattle, creaking loudly as it slides out a piece of paper.

Tapping the bottom of his chin, Brooke opens his mouth to ask “How old are the kittens?”

“Well, the ones we’re desperate to find homes for a group of babies, they still need to be bottle fed sooo we need to be more strict about who fosters them but we need someone, “ Haylee sighs, pushing herself out of her chair and rounding the desk, gesturing for Brooke to follow her into the back, “ We do have some older kittens about six months and older but a lot of them have found homes..”

They stop at a small cage, a trio of small kittens lay, snuggle within a small brown box. All of them wrap within a blanket. The largest of the small band was a small, grey she-cat with a silver muzzle. The second biggest was a soft, silver tom with with dancing grey stripes upon its fur. And the smallest was a tiny pale white she-cat with a silver tail.

Letting out a fond sigh, Brooke turns to Haylee, “I can take em."

“Are you sure?” Haylee gasps, her eyes widening as he smiles, looking at him with wide yet hopeful eyes.

Smiling, brooke lets out a small huff of a laugh, crouching down to stare at the bundles of fur, “Yeah, I can care for them if yeah like, not sure if Ki-Han will be too pleased though, boy loves attention.” He states, rising a hand and rubbing the back of his head as he smiles fondly, “I bottle fed my Tokotas when it was a pup- And I fed the lambs when the ma’s... can’t, so I have experience.”

“Alright!” The women hums excitedly, running back into the office, Leo slowly following behind, sending one last glance towards the kitten before walking to the desk once again, just in time to spot Haylee pulling out a clipboard and a pen, “So, just fill in these and we can send you on your way."

"Okei."

Within less then half an hour, Brooke found himself walking our of the shelter with a box filled with kittens and a bag with all that he required to care for them.

Tilting his head, Kiqhaan lets out a snort, rising to his feet and stepping towards the box, sniffing at the box curiously.
“Eay, you can see when we get home,“ Brooke huffs with a chuckle, lifting and patting the Tokotas with a smile, walking over and opening on of the bags secured to him, slipping the bag within it, carefully climbing onto Kiqhaan with the box within his arms. Sitting down and holding onto the saddle carefully.
“Let’s go!“ Brooke shouts, gently tapping Kiqhaan’s side and within a heartbeat they were off. Bounding down the road with a quickening pace.

It was about sun down when the pair made it home. A small yet well tend for cabin stood in front of a large field with a flock of white sheep in it.
Letting out a long yawn, Brooke carefully slides off of the saddle, landing onto the ground with a thud.
“ Kai!! We may need some help get stuff in!” The tired man shouts, shifting the box carefully into on hand and collecting a couple of bags in his free hand.

“Coming!” Another voice shouts and within a couple of seconds another figure came pottering out, a figure was a lithe man with short blond hair.
