I don't really follow any specific belief system involving the craft but i have been known to dabble, mostly in the arts of the green witches but i also have an aptitude for tarot and a few other things here and there, it's something heavily supported in my mothers side of the family with my grandmother also having practiced and her mother and grand mother as well, sadly we don't have any of their old books on what they dabbled in.

My grandmother family came from Germany and i find that there's a lot more acceptance for the practice on the side of the pond, these days at least, i've always wanted to go back there and study things in the place of my families roots i think it would be magical.

It is so awesome to come from a family that encouraged or accepted paganism and witchcraft. Even though it is far more common than many think, it is still a foreign idea to me that other people wouldn't strike me where I stood for so much as uttering the word 'witch.'

I'd be very interested in the perspective of people who come from a line of pagans and/or practionors. Like how someone who grew up with it may see it differently than someone who found it later in life...

Well practicing the craft was encouraged at a really young age by my grandmother though she'd never let me touch her books on the subject, actually she still wont hahaha, she wants to hand them down to me when she eventually passes as my mother in the end chose not to practice the craft and my grandmother didn't want the books to go to waste or get lost or given away to someone outside of the family.

I was raised to have a deep respect for the craft and not to delve into anything that seemed taboo or would cause harm to other intentionally, or to practice things like tarot reading on myself because sometimes when you look to deep into your own future it can do a lot more harm than good and things may not end up the way you perceived them especially when you're younger because you often look into the good of the cards more than the bad but they're balanced for a reason so you need to either take everything away from a reading or nothing otherwise you're missing the point and essentially dismissing the purpose altogether.

She tried to be as informative as possible with anything she had knowledge on and encouraged me to seek out my own path as i learned more and learned what i was proficient in. It was nice to have that kind of support especially because when growing up in a family with those kinds of roots one doesn't necessarily fit in among most of the other people around especially when people don't have a full understanding of Wicca or Pagan traditions and arts.

If you have any specifics you'd like to ask about go for it and i'll share my opinion or anything else i have to share.

Based off the information you gathered from your upbringing, do you think "family heritage" witches hold fast to concrete, specific rules in the craft? Or do you think they teach that magick or crafting can be fluid and can change with the intention of the practitioner? Like... do you HAVE to call the 4 pillars for every spell, or not? Or can you substitute certain herbs or scents for others in any given spell or ritual?

I know a lot of witches, like myself, follow a very eclectic path because they had to find everything out themselves, and therefore picked whatever worked for them. And still, I know there are some traditions of Wicca that are very strict as to certain rules and coven hierarchies (such as only being considered a fully fledged witch after studying for a year and a day).

Where did your upbringing fall on that spectrum? And regardless, do you think other families with the craft in their lineage feel differently - if you know?

There is definitely some sort of revival going on here. However acceptance might still be far away. The major religions still consider it evil and non-religious usually see it as "woo" (a derogatory term for people who'd believe anything).

It is however fast becoming a broad movement and the succes of music bands such as Warduna and Heilung, to name the most popular ones currently, are probably an influence as well.
It's a different beast from the New Age movement that started in the 60's as modern heathens base their practices more on actual historical facts and archeology from their own countries rather than borrow aspects from Eastern Mysticism and create something entirely new. We're really going back to our roots and rediscovering what we have lost.

I'm really looking forward to where all of this is going. Exciting times!

I sincerely hope LadyJhudora you'll one day have the means to visit Germany. I travel to historical sites in Germany quite often and it is indeed magical.

It's the full moon.

Is anyone doing anything for it? If so, what? I'd like to do something but I wouldn't know where to begin. So much is going on in my life at the moment I don't even feel like I have anything left in me. Although I suspect the full moon would be a good time to do something about that lol

It's so nice to see the start of change and acceptance. Slow as it may be at first i think it's a beautiful thing, i'm glad it's not just over on this side of the pond that things are shifting.

I really thing going back to the roots of it all is the best place to start! Gotta know where it all began to truly understand and know what you're really capable of, even if in the long run you don't stick to the traditional way it helps form a good respect for the art.

I'm hoping i get to make my way over soon, it probably wouldn't be until next year at the earliest but it would be such a beneficial trip in so many ways.

I plan to do a cleaning ritual at home as i don't have the energy for much else currently and it's one of the best times to do it. It's a good time to recharge honestly and help clear away anything unwanted or unwelcome.

Hmm.... I'll make an effort to step outside for at least a few minutes and burn something.
I don't have much energy either.
But it might help.

I've been on a long journey of religion in my life. I started out as raised christian, went to church every sunday, was even sent to bible camp, to try & remove the gay from me; little did they know many other parents of gay kids did the same so if anything bible camp only helped me re-affirm my identity at the time. I eventually came out to my caretakers as pagan. I said I didn't want to go to church any more. They tried to force me, but I was a very stubborn kid when i needed to be. Lost my graduation fund due to my female caretaker 'not wanting her family to support my heathen ways'. Eventually I moved out, & set paganism aside to explore other faiths. Eventually I came back to paganism, kept it for a while, then became atheist for a LONG while.
.
Now, I'm back to being a witch creating my own faith. Nothing I feel the need to force on others, of course. I just came to realize I couldn't find any faith that fit me perfectly so i might as well make one, just for me! I'm still on that path, & am very certain it's the final right religious path for me. I won't be changing my faith again, only making & growing it. Many parts are borrowed from other faiths which makes it sort of a franken-faith. I'm more than willing to answer any questions anyone has. Just being able to talk about it is really helpful. It feels like, in this day & age, making a new faith is considered taboo, silly, or wrong. But it's been only helpful to me.
