So, basically, im wondering what the general populace of Magistream feels about porn. I know at least a lot of you watch/read porn. Im wondering about your habits and how you feel about it.

With written, it needs to be WELL written. Not just some trashy romance novel, but sometimes those tend to be nice too xD Mostly I prefer videos though.

What are your views on porn, in general?
I really don't see anything wrong with it. It's a job for these people and it's entertaining to those who like it. I relate porn to reality TV often. Just because I don't like reality TV doesn't mean that it needs to be shut down completely. It's personal preference, if you don't like it then you don't watch it.

When did you start reading/watching/writing porn?
I think around 12, stumbled across HBO late night porn on accident. Then I slowly started getting into porn-filled fanfics.

What type do you watch/read/write?
I love the female body, but for some reason I'm not... interestd in lesbian porn so the only kind I can get into is hetero porn. Fantasy is interesting to me as well if it is a subject that I know of (i.e.; anime porn if I know the anime).

Do you feel that straight porn represents women, or even men, in an unrealistic way?
What DOESN'T represent people in an unrealistic way? Go take a look at a few clothing advertisements. Go look at magazine covers. Not ONE of them shows a real person. They are airbrushed and photoshopped to look skinnier, tanner, etc.

Do you feel that porn is damaging to our youth?
Again, what isn't damaging our youth? There are a ton of things out there besides porn to screw up the youth of America. Who cares if Jimmy is at home watching porn if it keeps him from being out on the streets every night doing drugs... I mean there are worse things out there than porn.

In your opinion, is porn a good way to bond?
Friends? To me that's extremely awkward. Spouses? I don't see why not. I've heard often that watching a partner please themselves is about as stimulating as sex itself.

I prefer written porn. I write some and I read tons of it. But when I'm alone I'll watch videos sometimes.

I wouldn't star in porn, but I don't really have anything against porn or those who star in it. When you break it down, they're utilizing their talents to make money. If they're comfortable with it, who am I to judge them?

Oh dear, I was a wee thing when I started reading porn. Adultfanfiction.net has been at the top of my bookmarks since I was 12, most likely. I didn't start writing it until I was 13, and that specific fanfiction will never be read by anyone else ever again (oh, it's terrible..). I didn't start watching porn until I was maybe 15? Started with a curiosity. Now, to be perfectly honest, I mostly use it for research. Trying to find different things to spice up my own romantic life, and different ways to spice up my stories.

What type do you watch/read/write? (Gay, straight, lesbian, bisex, fantasy, etc.)
It all depends on my mood. Sometimes I'll watch strictly gay porn, sometimes straight. Whatever I feel like watching is what I go for.

It depends on what the porn is. Obviously some porn is completely unrealistic, but most of it is sex. Dramatic sex.

Do you feel that porn is damaging to our youth?
It's damaging if the youth allows it to become such. One can watch porn and it could have no effect on one's life. I watched porn as a youth and I'm not addicted to it. I'm not going to lie, however; I enjoy sex immensely, and I cannot say if this is due to my watching porn at a young age.

I've never really tried it. Brian and I have watched porn together, but we didn't really bond over it. We bonded more over the intercourse that followed. But while we watched porn, we just kind of kicked back with some drinks and snacks. It was no different than watching a movie.

I probably prefer written erotica, as opposed to outright written pornography; though I've read this too, and also purchased it. That said, I don't mind watching pornography either, and own a few videos / DVDs.

What are your views on porn, in general?

I think pornography can be a highly exploitative and demoralising industry for women, that is - in some areas - slowly starting to change as more women-supportive / empowered pornography is being produced. I don't think it should be banned or prevented from being made, and I think the quality went down after the 70s, when pornography was no longer shown in cinemas. Before this, pornography was shown in cinemas (limited release, of course) and so the production standards were much higher. It is still considered the 'golden age' of classy pornography.

I have mixed feelings about it. I believe that there's nothing wrong with one using sex aids to help themselves; but I do not like the exploitation of women that occurs so blatantly. I tend to prefer the softer 'erotica,' but even this can be exploitative, especially in areas of fanfiction, where tropes can sometimes be slavishly followed (but again, this depends on the author, the fandom, the ship, and so on).

When I was a young teen, probably around 13/14. I started writing it a bit later, maybe 15 or 16?

Heh, I feel like saying 'yes to all of the above.' I watch/read/write gay (which includes lesbian), straight, bisexual, fantasy, and pretty much whatever I can get my hands on. If it's well-written, I'm happy.

It depends on the producers/directors that are involved. It's absolutist to say that all pornography represents people in unrealistic ways. But it's certainly true - I think - that the majority of pornography, like any offering of film, objectifies and derealises men and women.

It can certainly lead to unrealistic expectations.

Not for me; but I'm happy for other people to use it as a way to bond, if that's what works for them. Each to their own, really.

I'm definitely a fan of porn/erotica. (One person's erotica is another's porn ) I enjoy many types and most media. I was about 10-11 when I first started reading/viewing. I don't write.

I find that any media can portray people in an unrealistic light: porn, action/adventure, romantic comedy. By itself, porn cannot damage anyone. It is what a person makes of it that can become a problem. I don't know about bonding over porn, I prefer to share porn with someone with whom I have already bonded.

I am a 40 yr old female. My sexual preference is yes. I am in the Midwest USA.
