Gay Pride

Gay is an adjective referring to those with an enduring physical, romantic, and/or emotional attraction to people of the same gender. This is most commonly associated with men, as a gay woman may prefer to use the term "lesbian" instead. Queer and bisexual are also among the terms used for those who are attracted to members of the same gender. In a broader sense of the word, gay can also be used as an umbrella term to identify any LGBTQIA+ individual.

Bi Pride

Bisexual is a label that describes attraction to two or more genders on the gender spectrum. Some bisexual people have a preference toward one or several genders, while others do not. An alternate definition is the sexual attraction to one's own gender and different gender(s).

Non-blushing Charubi are indicative that sometimes bisexual people can be in an apparent "straight" relationship, but are still bisexual regardless.

Ace Pride

Asexual refers to people who do not experience sexual attraction toward others. They may experience other forms of attraction, such as romantic, sensual, or aesthetic attraction. Asexuality is a sexual orientation, not a gender identity, behavior, or medical condition. Some asexual people choose to engage in sexual activities for various reasons despite not experiencing sexual feelings and desire toward any particular person. Asexuality is part of the asexual spectrum (abbreviated "ace spectrum"), an umbrella term and a broad community of identities that are closely related to asexuality when placed on a spectrum ranging from asexual to sexual.

Sapphic

Sapphic, sometimes known as woman loving woman (WLW), or sapphist, refers to a woman of any sexual orientation who is attracted to other women. Another definition is specifically inclusive of non-binary people. It is an umbrella term for many identities, including those who are lesbian, pansexual, bisexual, or queer. It is used to promote solidarity among women of all identities who are attracted to other women. It may also be used as an identity, and may be found particularly useful for individuals who know they are attracted to women but may be uncertain if they are attracted to other genders. It can also be used to describe a relationship between two women.

Achillean

Achillean refers to a man or man-aligned individual who is attracted to other men and men-aligned people. This describes all sexual orientations where someone male or man-aligned is attracted to others, serving as an umbrella term for men and non-binary people who are gay, pansexual, bisexual, queer, or other sexualities in which men are attracted to men. It is similar to and sometimes known as men loving men (MLM).

Trans Pride

Transgender, often shortened to trans, is an umbrella term that describes an individual whose gender identity differs from their assigned gender at birth (AGAB). The birth assignment—generally defaulting to assigned male at birth (AMAB) or assigned female at birth (AFAB)—assumes that the individual's gender identity will correspond to their assigned sex. A person's gender identity—their sense of gender—usually develops when they are very young.

Transgender people can be binary or non-binary. Some transgender individuals may experience at least one form of gender dysphoria during their life, usually manifesting as an intense distress with their assigned gender. Conversely, some transgender individuals may experience what is known as gender euphoria, a term used to describe a "positive and exciting feeling of one's gendered self". Transgender people might transition socially and/or physically from their assigned gender to their actual gender identity.

of Rapture

One man once had a vision. A city where artists would not fear censorship. Where scientists would not be bound by morality. Where the great would not be constrained by the small.
By the sweat of Andrew Ryan's brow, Rapture was borne. A marvelous self-sustaining city under the sea. A city for the world's best to run. A purely-capitalistic society without moral restrictions. Paradise. Well, maybe for those who were better off. Being purely capitalistic, it was hard for the less fortunate to get by. They were treated as parasites; parasites that needed disposal of. Naturally they retaliated and war resulted.

Once Ryan fell from power, Sofia was quick to take charge. Only time would tell whether Rapture would thrive.. or fall apart.

Borne of Rapture

The ADAM addiction was what ultimately ended Rapture. ADAM was a substance, harvested from a sea slug, that had amazing healing properties. Aside from being able to heal, it gave the ability to do amazing feats. It acted like a benign forme of cancer; destroying and replacing native cells in the body. Cosmetic and mental damaged followed abuse.

Out of necessity for ADAM, young girls were genetically altered and mentally conditioned for a special task. They were to harvest ADAM from corpses that lay around Rapture. They were known as 'Little Sisters'. Little Sisters were brainwashed to see the decaying city of Rapture much differently than the normal inhabitants. They were despised by ADAM-addicts, and accompanied with a 'Big Daddy' or 'Big Sister' at all times to keep them safe.

of Pieuvre Armement

Pieuvre Armement (lit. "Octopus armaments") is one of the 5 PMCs (Private Military Company) who operate under the dummy mother company, Outer Heaven, which is run by Liquid Ocelot, is based in France. They utilize the System, otherwise known as SOP (Sons of the Patriots), which uses nanomachines to enhance and regulate their senses. The name is based on FOXHOUND mercenary Decoy Octopus. Currently, Pieuvre Armement has been deployed in South America fighting the Rebel Guerrilla Soldiers. Raiden has also mentioned that the South American state army is fighting alongside Pievre Armement against the rebels, setting up ambushes for the rebel forces. This statement, coupled with the fact that Laughing Octopus ambushed several South American rebels, would imply that their PMC is a Guerilla Warfare-based one.

of Werewolf

Werewolf was one of the 5 PMCs under the control of the mother company Outer Heaven commanded by Liquid Ocelot based in the United States. The name was based from FOXHOUND mercenary Sniper Wolf. Werewolf provided Gekko and Dwarf Gekko in bulk and was also the only PMC known to use Suicide Gekkos. There were no live personnel there, although there was a group of FROGS, suggesting that Werewolf specializes in mechanized warfare, unmanned in a manner of speaking.

of Preying Mantis

Praying Mantis is one of the 5 PMCs (Private Military Company) who operates under the dummy mother company, Outer Heaven, run by Liquid Ocelot, is based in Britain, and utilizes the SOP system, using nanomachines to enhance and regulate their senses. The name is based on FOXHOUND mercenary Psycho Mantis. In 2014, Praying Mantis was deployed in the Middle East to fight off the local Militia Soldiers. Their equipment and and tactics suggests that Praying Mantis specializes in urban warfare.

of Raven Sword

Raven Sword is one of the 5 PMCs (Private Military Company) who operates under the dummy mother company, Outer Heaven, which is run by Liquid Ocelot, is based in the United States. They utilize the System, otherwise known as SOP (Sons of the Patriots), which uses nanomachines to enhance and regulate their senses. The name is based from FOXHOUND mercenary Vulcan Raven. Raven Sword has been deployed in Eastern Europe and are making efforts to root out the local resistance led by Big Mama. They have many checkpoints and roadblocks set up as well as a curfew in effect thus making it much more difficult for the Paradise Lost Army to meet up. Their equipment and presence suggests that Raven Sword specializes in policing and security services.

FOXHOUND

High-Tech Special Forces Unit FOXHOUND was an elite black ops unit of the U.S. Army that was established by the "Legendary Soldier" Big Boss in 1971. Although its function changed over the years, FOXHOUND specialized in covert, solo infiltrations, to cope with local revolutions, regional complications, and global terrorist activities in "unauthorized" combat zones too politically-sensitive to intervene through conventional means. All its members were battlefield hardened veterans, with many coming from a mercenary background. It was officially disbanded by the U.S. Government after the Shadow Moses Incident in 2005.
A white kit is a sign of the FOXDIE virus. These children are often considered lost causes, as the virus will kill them soon enough.

Cobra Unit

The Cobra Unit was one of the many superhuman soldiers that the Philosophers had formed through their resources.

In 1942, the Cobra Unit was officially formed and led by The Boss (then known as The Joy) during the Battle of Stalingrad. The Cobra Unit consisted of soldiers trained to win the war and with superhuman abilities - which at least two owed to parasite therapy. Its members were The Pain, The Fear, The End, The Fury, and The Sorrow. Because of each of the members of the unit being extremely loyal to The Boss, to the extent that they only obey her orders even when she is under the command of someone else, they are sometimes referred to as the Sons of The Boss.
