(Ooh, I think that's really interesting! ^^ So, if most humans can make a small light the color of their soul, can my OC do that too?)

Sans nodded in response to Mira's question, "that's what we think happened." Hearing that humans could still use magic but it wasn't very strong, Sans was curious why humans would act like it didn't exist if they all could use it. Well, Alphys' theory that humans' magic might be feeding into the barrier had some merit, then. Sans made a mental note to pass the information on to Alphys later, figuring this might open new ideas for what they could do about the barrier. Although, even if it was possible for humans with different types of magic to be able to affect the barrier somehow, there was still only one human here, so they couldn't really test any ideas Alphys might come up with...

Nonetheless, it wasn't completely impossible for another human to show up at some point, even if it was unlikely.

Sans was glad to see his attempt to reassure Mira had worked, and smiled back at her. When Mira asked what he wanted to know about, Sans thought for a bit; Alphys hadn't really asked him to ask anything specific, and had seemed to just want general information, so he wasn't really sure what information would help most. Eventually deciding to just let Mira talk about whatever she wanted and ask follow up questions if she mentioned something that sounded like it might help, Sans said, "i don't really know much about the surface in its current state, so you can just talk about whatever you feel comfortable talking about, and i'll let you know if i have any questions about it."

Pausing a bit, Sans added, "if there's anything you think might be important about humans' magic, you could probably start with that." Sans figured that would be the most likely information to help with figuring out the barrier, considering it had been made with humans' magic.

(Of course! It doesn’t necessarily have to be a light if you want something different though :) )

Mira seeming to be lost in thought as she was already debating what was best to tell Sans about the human world, t-there was just so much she could tell him...it wasn’t exactly to just pick a starting point and run with it where there were so, so many decades upon centuries of human history she could tell him about.

Maybe it would be best to start with the basics of what she knew might actually help aid in research to breaking the barrier someday, the girl knowing that there was little she could get in trouble for for using her vestigial bit of magic down here where much stronger abilities seemed to be common.

“Well...Uhh...we mostly live in villages or small towns all around the world, and there are a couple of big cities but not many”, Speaking slow as she did her best to simplify what life on the surface was like, she wasn’t going to exaggerate and act as if life was amazing up there when it had many issues that...Mira had wanted to run away from before ending up here, “As for how many of us there are, I would guess a couple million...but we tend to live pretty spread apart so it’s hard to tell”.

Casually looking down at her left hand as she debated on showing Sans what really constituted ‘magic’ on the surface, it was embarrassing to think of how weak humans were compared to monsters in regards to such abilities, “I’m not going to lie and say I know how to use magic, but I can do this if it means anything...a lot of humans can”.

A nervous blush crossing her face as she concentrated on her hand and tried to clear her mind a bit, soon enough a faint, pink glow was coming off of the girls hand and ended at her wrist rather abruptly, it’s
light being weak but enough to show that at least the smallest bit of magic remained in the human’s Soul.

Mira sighing as she seemed to be almost ashamed of it in a way, magic simply wasn’t looked upon fondly in the human world ever since the Great War between humans abs monsters ended, “I know, pathetic, right? Out of anything I could have been born with I have some kind of glow stick hand”.

(Cool! I'll have to think about what it should be ^^ Meanwhile Chara is like "Have her summon chocolate!" lol)

Sans listened as Mira explained about how humans lived on the surface. It was interesting to him that many humans also lived in small towns, much like the monsters in each area of the Underground. Though, Sans figured that human towns were probably still quite different from monsters'. Hearing there were millions of humans was surprising; due to the limited space in the Underground, there obviously wasn't enough room for millions of monsters. Sans supposed the surface must be very large to have enough space for all the humans. Especially if they all lived rather spread apart! "how big is the surface?" Sans wondered curiously. While he wasn't sure if that information would serve any purpose towards breaking the barrier, he was very curious to find out.

Sans was confused when Mira looked at her hand, apparently debating something with herself. Sans listened as she spoke up, mentioning she and a lot of other humans could do something similar to magic. When her hand started glowing slightly, Sans was amazed. Though it seemed like Mira wasn't as impressed with her ability as he was. Sans didn't understand why Mira was ashamed of it; maybe it was just because she'd seen monsters using a bunch of other magic?

"well, i think it's cool," Sans said, smiling. "besides, who knows? maybe someday it'll come in handy." Realizing a few moments later he'd just told a pun, Sans chuckled, "okay, that one was punintentional."

"seriously though, it really is cool," Sans added sincerely, not wanting his message to get lost in the unintentional punning.

Sans still wondered why humans apparently disliked magic if they could use it, or at least a form of it. However, it seemed like it might be a touchy subject, especially considering Mira had seemed ashamed of her own ability, so he decided it was best not to ask. Instead, he focused on a theory he'd come up with, seeing the small light Mira had made was the same color as her soul. "so, do you think it's connected to your soul type then? since they're the same color... maybe other humans with different soul types would make lights that are different colors?" By this point Sans was kind of rambling theories out loud, and awkwardly cut himself off before he could ramble any more. Maybe he should save the rambling for when he spoke with Alphys next; he didn't want to annoy Mira, especially if she didn't want to talk about the ability other than showing him.

(Omfg what if your o.c can summon small objects they are familiar with like a dimensional box or something?)

Mira’s hand glowing warm and soft as she didn’t seem to think that it was particularly special that she could essentially make her limb turn into a weak flashlight of sorts, it had always just been kind of so thing she could do just as other humans might be able to make sparks from their fingertips or shift their eye color, “Earth is really, really big, but a lot of its water so humans kinda get territorial over land sometimes”.

None of it was technically really useful, but all these budding abilities were just traits of the magic that humans once possessed but no longer practiced, Mira having assumed that Sans would have dismissed her ability just as quickly as any human would have when he instead that he actually thought it was really cool.

“Y-you mean that?~?”, Her cheeks blushing a bit at the compliment as no one had...really ever said anything nice to her about her hand before, Mira unfocused her energy and smiled small at Sans, “Thanks...that makes me really happy that someone doesn’t think it’s stupid”.

Taking a moment to realize that Sans had made a pun out of thinking her ability was ‘pretty cool’ though, Mira couldn’t help but giggle at the skeleton’s terrible joke genuinely as she didn’t even try to make one in return this time.

“It might be, but I’m not even sure how many other humans can do this. It could be a coincidence for all we know”, Shrugging her shoulders as Sans suggest that perhaps this odd ability she possessed was coinciding with the color of her soul, Mira hadn’t even know she had a Soul until yesterday so she had never had a chance to dwell on this question, but it wasn’t fully out of the realm of possibility that Sans was on to something, “Some human abilities are -really- weird though if you wanna know, Like being able to make their fingers fall off for pranks and stuff”.

(Oh my word are you telling me I made not one but TWO unintentional puns in the same post?! I was actually referring to the part where he said it could come in handy ('cause it's her hand that's glowing XD) and I just now realized the 'cool' part is also a pun because Snowdin and ahhhhhhh puns have taken over my life  )
(Also I really like that idea! Especially since it gives me extra excuses to spoil Chara with excessive amounts of chocolate lol My OC's gonna be summoning like 95% chocolate, 5% stuff that's actually useful in a given situation haha)

Sans considered what Mira said about the size of the surface; he supposed it didn't surprise him too much that the humans could be territorial over land, considering they trapped the entirety of monsterkind under a mountain. Though, he was curious exactly how much of the surface was water; while there was quite a bit of water in Waterfall, the rest of the Underground didn't really have much water in it. Snowdin did have a river, though, but the rest of the Underground didn't have any rivers or ponds as far as Sans knew. While there were some large ponds and rivers in Waterfall, even there it was still mostly land. It would probably be cool to see an area that was mostly made up of water, Sans thought. "aside from all the water, what else is there on the surface?" Sans asked curiously. Sans knew there were probably lots of mountains and forests and such, but he figured humans might have made or found other things that weren't known of in the Underground.

"yeah, of course," Sans replied when Mira asked if he really meant what he said. Sans wondered why she seemed surprised he had complimented her ability. Did the other humans not find it as impressive as he did? Well, she had said a lot of humans could do stuff like that, but still... Sans wasn't sure why they would think it was stupid. "snow problem," Sans said, smiling back at Mira. Sans hoped that Mira wouldn't feel ashamed of her ability anymore, because it really was interesting.

Seeing Mira seemed amused by the pun, Sans grinned. It was definitely nice to be able to tell puns without Papyrus complaining about them, even if most of the complaints were more for show than out of actual annoyance.

Sans knew Mira had a point that it might just be a coincidence that the color her hand glowed matched that of her soul, so he just nodded. After all, it wasn't like there were any other humans around they could ask to see if the same was true for them. For now, Sans would just forget about the possible connection, besides maybe telling Alphys about his idea later on. The other ability Mira mentioned surprised Sans; that was probably the last thing he would have expected, though it sounded hilarious. "wow, that sounds really humerus!" Sans did enjoy a good prank every now and then, though Papyrus wasn't quite as fond of them so Sans generally didn't have many opportunities to prank people. Of course, as funny as the prank itself sounded, Sans did have to wonder what the humans who could do that did afterwards. Did their fingers grow back? Could they just reattach them? Sans was quite curious and couldn't resist asking, "what do they do afterwards? how do they get their fingers back?"

(You made ALL the puns xD Its a goal to be able to surpass your pun making skills someday! )

(Oh my God, Alias just being a endless supply of chocolate to Chara xD It’s quite...a useful ability, I wouldn’t deny that.)

“Well, there are a lot of big forests and mountains up there too, especially around the edge of Mt. Ebott”, Mira trying to think of what else she could tell Sans about of the general layout of the Earth, she figured telling him about caves might have came across as a bit insensitive, her instead turning towards something a bit more interesting that she thought might get Sans attention.

“We have really, really strong telescopes on the surface that let us see way out into space. Someday I’m going to be sure you will be able to take a look at em, Mr. science skeleton~”.

Mira smiling at Sans as she seemed to have caught onto the fact that he had a interest in science related things by now with how much he and Alphys talked together, if Sans ever got to the surface with her he was sure to be a brilliant mind among even brainy humans, “I learned in school all about how they let humans see distant planets and stuff up close, and how it helped us get to the moon way back when”.

The human giggling at Sans terrible puns as she couldn’t help but find them ridiculously amusing every time he said them so casually, Mira simply shrugged her shoulders when he asked how on Earth some humans managed to grow their fingers back with apparently being able to drop them at will.

“I guess you could say they are unreala-~limb~stic in thinking they will grow back on their own”, Making a pun of her own as she really didn’t know how humans who could drop limbs seemed to get them back, maybe Mira honestly was lucky to just have a simple glowing hand after all, “Hey, what about you though? You know any magic besides that cool teleporting you did the other day?”.

(I'm honored my pun-making skills are a goal  I gotta make Sans proud XD)
(Best ability ever! ^^)

Sans listened as Mira mentioned there were large forests and mountains, smiling a bit that he'd guessed correctly about those. Though what really got his attention were the telescopes; Sans had tried his best to make one based on what he'd read about them in a book, but he had no idea whether it would work or not since he couldn't actually use it to try to see the real stars. The idea of being able to use a strong telescope and see the stars someday... It was a dream, one that he previously had figured would never come true. Hearing Mira wanted to make sure he would someday be able to see the stars through a telescope filled Sans with happiness; it was so kind of her to want to help him achieve his dream. Smiling genuinely, Sans managed a quiet "thank you."

Sans smiled as Mira mentioned how telescopes had been used to see the planets and even to travel to the moon; that must have been incredible! Sans had read a bit about the planets as well, and thought they would also be cool to see. But to actually go to the moon?! That would be simply out of this world! Especially as someone who'd never even seen the surface, Sans could barely even imagine reaching the moon. "wow, that must have been an incredible experience. the people who went must have been over the moon with excitement," Sans said with a grin.

Sans was glad to see Mira was enjoying the puns, since he often told puns unintentionally and didn't want to annoy her with them. Despite their rocky introduction, Sans really did consider Mira a good friend now and the last thing he wanted to do was upset her. Sans couldn't help laughing along with her sometimes after he told a particularly bad pun; it was nice to see what had started as a coping mechanism for him was making someone else happy.

When Mira made a pun of her own, Sans laughed, seeming quite happy that she was joining him in telling puns. Mira's question about what magic Sans could do besides teleporting made him pause and think a bit. Sans figured mentioning the Gaster Blasters would be a bad idea, since if she asked to see one she might get a flashback to her nightmare about Gaster. However, the magic bones and ability to control people's souls seemed safe enough to talk about. "well, i can do this," Sans said, making a small bone made of magic appear in the air in front of him. "papyrus can as well. and he can make blue ones too!" Sans grinned, clearly proud of his brother. "i can also control people's souls a bit. like i could lift someone up so they could reach something on a shelf that's up high or something."

Mira leaning into the couch a little more as she seemed to practically sink into it due to her small size, the girl couldn’t help but wonder if she would ever even get the chance to show Sans all the cool stuff that the surface had to offer, the thought of breaking the barrier someday...well, seeming pretty far off with how much Alphys and Sans seemed to be struggling with even researching it.

The last thing Mira wanted to be was a burden onto her new friends, her figuring that a life in the underground wasn’t going to be -that- horrible if she was at least safe down here from why she had once thought to be bloodthirsty monsters.

Aside from the horrifying dream she had dreamt before of her Soul being practically turn from her body by a warped and cracked looking shrouded figure, Mira wasn’t too afraid of monsters anymore, even the grinning Sans not being that intimidating as he once was.

Y-yeah, she could stay down here, at least for a little while longer, but she would never give up hope of the surface world...

The human seeming to be curious of Sans abilities though as she knew he could teleport by now, his other potential powers were a mystery to her as she had no idea on how powerful he actually was under all the smiling and pun making he disguised his true emotions with.

To Mira, Sans was just a good friend to have around, her eyes widening in curiosity when the stocky skeleton summoned a small bone out of the air as if it was nothing when she asked him what other powers he could control.

“T-that’s so cool!~”, A smile growing on Mira’s face as she had to stop herself from reaching out to touch it, the fact that even Papyrus could do this was just as awesome to the magic deprived human, “You can just do that whenever you want? It doesn’t hurt you at all?”.

Hearing that Sans could also control Souls a little though seeming to get a small reaction out of Mira’s own as it thumped in her chest, the girl still was a bit confused on the whole concept of Souls but understood she still had a lot to learn about them regardless as his talk of controlling Souls gave her a curious question to ask, “If I’m right, Alphys was saying there were more than just...Uhh, the type of Soul that I have, right? If it’s not much to ask, w-what kind do you have, Sans?”.

Sans smiled at Mira's reaction; she seemed amazed at seeing him summon the bone made of magic, which usually didn't get much of a reaction. Once Papyrus had learned how to summon them himself, he hadn't been quite as impressed by it as he had when they were younger and Sans would sometimes use magic to entertain him. And Sans never really had a reason to use this ability otherwise, outside of the battles with Flowey of course, but that was something he'd rather not think about right now. Anyway, he was glad to see Mira thought it was cool.

"yeah, and no, it doesn't hurt," Sans replied. Sans was a bit confused why she thought it would hurt him; did using magic hurt humans? "uh, making your hand glow like that doesn't hurt you, does it?" Sans asked, a bit worried Mira had hurt herself just to show him her ability. It hadn't seemed like it had, but Mira did seem like she'd hide it as much as possible if she was hurt, so...

When Mira asked about the other types of Souls, Sans nodded. "it's fine. i have a monster soul, just like all the other monsters down here. only humans have different types of souls, like yours. humans can actually have one of eight different types of souls; the other seven types are patience, bravery, integrity, perseverance, justice, kindness, and determination."

Sans hoped that Mira wouldn't mind that he was kind of going on a tangent about the types of Souls, though she'd seemed curious about them so he hoped that meant it didn't bother her. "the type of soul a human has is based on the corresponding trait that they embody most. for example, someone really kind would likely have a kindness soul, and someone with a strong sense of justice would probably have a justice soul. that's not to say one person can't embody multiple traits, of course; just that the soul corresponds to the one they are most connected to. someone with a justice soul can do something courageous, for example, and their soul will still be a justice soul."

Mira watching the summoned bone curiously as she was incredibly fascinated by the way Sans could use magic so easily, she herself had to put all her effort into just making her hand glow slightly, the thought of being able to use magic whenever she wished seemed like a fantasy.

Than again, had she not been thrown into a fantasy when she had tumbled down here?

“Oh! Uh...no, making my hand like this doesn’t hurt. I was just...worried is all about you”, Mira sinking into the couch a little more as she seemed a bit embarrassed over feeling like maybe she looked like she was caring for Sans a little too much, t-they had just met after all...and he seemed like he could hold his own, but still.

Sighing as she could have been a part of the couch itself by now, Mira was happy that Sans began to talk of the various types of souls that apparently only humans could have, her not wanting to linger on the fact that she really did care for the stocky skeleton a lot.

All of this was...incredibly fascinating...she had never heard of these types of Souls, or Souls in general on the surface, but the more she thought about it the more clear it was that the ‘pointless’ little abilities she had explained clearly came from somewhere, namely their ‘Traits’ imbedded in their Souls.

“If that’s the case, than what does mine mean? Dr. Alphys said I have a ‘love’ soul, but I don’t even get what it can do”, Speaking quietly as she focused on her hand that was calming down from the glow she had forced on it, Sans seemed to be implying that different souls could lead to different abilities...

But what could she do with pure love? Hug someone to death?

‘He knows more about humans than I do, and he is a skeleton monster....how does he even know all of this anyways?’
