Alia smiled as Papyrus said that seeing her happy made all the work to make the room worth it. It felt so strange to have people putting in effort to help her, but it was a nice strange. Usually, she had to figure everything out by herself, at least she had on the surface. Ever since falling into the Underground, though, she'd met so many nice people who seemed to be happy to help her out.

As the three entered, Alia stayed back a bit, still kind of nervous, but managing to hide it for the most part and smile at them all, especially Sans. Alia watched as Papyrus picked the other human up and spun her around; based on her giggling, she didn't seem to mind it as much as Alia did. She seemed nice, and Alia waved back, still remaining a bit of a distance away out of shyness. Alia clearly didn't think any of them were a threat though, she just was rather shy around strangers usually.

As always, Chara stayed by her side, smiling encouragingly at her. They seemed rather nervous at first when they saw the other human, but after seeing she seemed nice, they relaxed a bit. They were silent, whether out of nervousness or just not wanting to distract Alia, she wasn't sure.

The two listened as Papyrus spoke, somewhat confused by what he was saying to/about the third skeleton, but just remaining silent, curious what was going on.

....

Sans smiled as Papyrus greeted the trio as they arrived at the house, glad to see his brother seeming so happy and cheerful again. While he'd sounded a lot happier on the phone earlier when he heard about Mira's recovery, it was nice to see him looking happy as well. "heya bro," he said, waving to Alia when he saw her hanging back a bit. Figuring she wouldn't want too much attention on her, he didn't say anything to her yet, though he made a mental note to see how she was feeling later. Hopefully having so many people around wouldn't make her feel uncomfortable.

At least for now, she seemed alright, if a bit nervous, and he hoped that seeing everyone was nice would help her feel more comfortable. And maybe some chocolate and puns would help, though the puns would have to wait until Papyrus was distracted by something. After all, he'd had a stressful enough day already, and Sans didn't want to make it worse by telling a bunch of puns in front of him.

Sans watched with a grin as Papyrus spun Mira around, and shrugged sheepishly at Papyrus's question about how to talk to Gaster. "just be yourself, bro. don't worry." Sans said with a reassuring smile. It wasn't like he could really tell Papyrus what to say, besides, he was still kind of wrapping his mind around Gaster being back himself. Everything today had happened rather fast; he still needed to find some time to think through everything.

That wouldn't be right now, though. Probably the soonest opportunity he would get would be that evening, since he often found himself lying awake thinking for at least an hour before finally succumbing to sleep.

Anyway, he glanced over at Alia to see how she was doing; she seemed to be watching curiously, which was definitely an upgrade from watching nervously, so he just smiled at her again and returned his attention to the other three.

.....

Gaster watched the others, hanging back a bit since he wasn't sure if Papyrus was still uncomfortable after they spoke earlier. While he was quite surprised to see another human there already, he was careful not to show that, since he could tell she was already a bit nervous. This was quite an unexpected turn of events, for another human to arrive so soon after the last.

As Papyrus and Mira greeted each other, Gaster smiled. It was clear that Mira was quite close to both his sons, and he felt another pang of guilt that he had tried to take her Soul. When Papyrus announced he would make a meal to celebrate, Gaster smiled again, eager to try one of Papyrus's dishes.

Gaster simply smiled reassuringly when Papyrus turned to Sans for advice on how to talk to him; really, he just wanted to get to know Papyrus after all the years he'd been gone, so he was glad that Sans told him to just be himself. "Hello again. I apologize for startling you before, I was simply so happy to see you again I wasn't thinking..." Gaster explained.

Hopefully, they would be able to talk things out so it wouldn't be so awkward anymore. At least it seemed like Papyrus was willing to try, which was quite a relief.

Mira taking notice of how shy the little human behind Papyrus seemed to be as she gave her a kind smile and a wave, she didn’t exactly know much about the girl obviously but was more than willing to make quick friends with her seeing as they were the only two humans down here and needed to stick together.

Her not being aware of Chara’s presence, Mira had little idea that Alia had been guided all this time by the ghost of the very first human to fall down here so long ago and that the pair had become close friends. From what Mira could tell Alia seemed to be a sweet but shy child, likely in need of a -lot- of tlc and then some with how she had likely fallen down the hard way, just as she herself had before being found by Sans.

Speaking of Sans, Mira wanted to talk to the skeleton a bit later in private And seriously thank him for...well, everything he had done. It was easy to tell that he didn’t have much confidence in himself for one reason or another and Mira wasn’t going to goad him into telling her what was bothering him, but she felt a few good words would really do Sans good.

Papyrus not being as pushy with Alia as when he first saw her, the skeleton remembered what Sans had told him earlier about treating Alia like he did Mira and was going to do just that, him honestly being a bit curious on how she was going to adjust over time to living in her new home and with her new family.

“Be myself?? Hm...your right, brother...of course, I have been trying to improve myself lately in regards to testing the air around others....”, Papyrus tapping his chin for a moment in thought as he really didn’t want to end up saying the wrong thing to Gaster nor they he understood the black clad skeleton was his father, in honesty he wanted nothing more than to ask him a million and one questions he now had on his mind.

In terms of personality it seemed that Papyrus and Gaster were worlds apart, Pap being talkative and eager to get to know his father while G was reserved and seemed to be taking everything in stride. If they weren’t both skeletons it would have been hard to believe they were related at all, Sans being more like G than Papyrus with his laid back attitude and sheer intelligence.

“The only thing I was really startled by was seeing another skeleton after all this time just hanging out in Hotland to be honest. After all, I kinda assumed me and Sans were the only ones around”, Papyrus chuckling and rubbing the back of his skull awkwardly, it was naturally a bit tense to actually speak to someone who was long thought to be lost to the void, “Pretty sure everyone else thought skeletons were extinct besides me and Sans”.

Papyrus not being ignorant to the history of monsters and humans, he knew that most of him and his brothers kind were wiped out in the war so it was only logical to assume they were the only skeletons around. Now that he thought of it, Pap honestly felt kinda stupid for
Not realising that he and the mysterious skeleton he had met must have had some connection.....

“Anyways, maybe...uh, we should sit down and talk? Alia, do you want to go hang out with Mira for a while? I’m sure you don’t want to listen to boring adult conversations, right?”, Papyrus looking down at the shy Alia as he wasn’t sure if she would be confident enough to really hang with Mira much yet, he figured maybe spending time with another human would be make her happier than sticking with a group of monsters for a while.

Alia listened silently as the trio of skeletons talked, still somewhat confused about what exactly was going on, but not appearing to be nervous anymore. It helped that everyone's attention seemed to be more focused on the conversation than her, and she was more or less able to hide in the background and just listen. In groups, she preferred not to have too much attention on her.

When Papyrus spoke to her, she was even more confused. Alia didn't mind listening silently while they talked at all, and honestly preferred it over having attention drawn to her. She didn't think the conversation the skeletons were having was boring, even if she didn't really understand exactly what was going on, and she didn't mind listening and trying to figure it out as time went on. But now it would seem kind of rude to say she wanted to stay here and keep listening, since it might look like she was trying to avoid talking with Mira, even though that wasn't the reason at all. Mira seemed nice, and Alia wouldn't mind talking with her. But if she agreed, would it seem like she was also agreeing the conversation was boring? That seemed rude, too. It was also very confusing to try to figure out how to explain, well, any of that, especially on the spot like this...

She wasn't even sure why Papyrus was suggesting this now, rather than after the conversation was finished. As usual when Alia had no idea what to do, she turned to Chara.

"They may want to discuss family stuff, I suppose? That would explain why he suggested both you and Mira hang out instead of listening in." Chara said after a few moments of thinking. Alia tilted her head slightly, wondering why Papyrus didn't just say so if that was the case. "Yeah, I have no clue either. Regardless, I doubt they will consider you rude if you agree. I suppose the wording there was to convince you to agree in the first place."

Social interactions could be really confusing, Alia thought as she turned back to Papyrus. She still felt nervous and awkward as she spoke up, stammering a bit as she figured the delay in responding might have drawn the others' attention. "Um, I don't think it'll be boring or anything. But, uh, sure, I'll go." She then turned to Mira, managing to smile despite the nervousness and awkwardness she still felt, and said, "Hi, I'm Alia."

......

Sans smiled when Papyrus took his advice to just be himself when talking with Gaster. Surely that would help both of them get to know each other with the least amount of awkwardness. Which, he figured, was what both of them wanted.

Sans was somewhat confused by Papyrus's suggestion that Mira and Alia go hang out while the skeletons were talking, but soon guessed that Papyrus just wanted to be able to talk with Gaster and possibly him for awhile and didn't want the two humans to feel like they had to listen silently through the whole conversation. Seeing that Alia seemed to be overthinking Papyrus's suggestion, he smiled reassuringly at her, but Alia seemed to be looking at... Nothing? Or perhaps the couch? Though he had no idea why she would be looking at furniture randomly, so that probably wasn't it.

Then she tilted her head, almost as if considering something someone had said, even though no one had spoken since Papyrus had. Sans watched as she turned back to Papyrus a bit later and spoke up nervously. It seemed she was quite worried about seeming rude as she was careful to mention she didn't think the conversation was boring before agreeing to hang out with Mira. Of course, he could understand why she would be afraid to seem rude, since she had just been invited to stay there so she wouldn't want to insult the hosts. Sans smiled reassuringly at her again.

Though, he was still wondering why she seemed to have been looking at nothing for a bit. This wasn't the first time he'd seen her do that, either. And hadn't she seemed to have been talking to herself when he first met her? 'Maybe she has an imaginary friend?' Sans thought. She did seem like she hadn't really had many friends before she fell into the Underground. Perhaps she had come up with an imaginary friend to avoid feeling lonely.

.....

Gaster was very happy to hear Papyrus was going to be himself. Hopefully, Papyrus wouldn't get too caught up in how confusing the situation was with Gaster suddenly being back and would be able to relax and just interact with him like he would normally. Seeing that Papyrus seemed to have some questions, Gaster would do his best to reply to them and explain things as best as he could. After all, he'd disappeared without a trace and with most people forgetting he even existed, and now he was suddenly back. Most people would be very confused and have lots of questions.

In fact, most people were going to have lots of questions, he realized with an internal sigh. It seemed he would have a lot of explaining to do over the next few days... Nonetheless, it was such a relief to be back that he didn't really mind it.

After Papyrus explained why he was startled to see him, Gaster nodded. "Understandable. I can see why that would be shocking." Gaster nodded again as Papyrus suggested sitting down to talk, eager to talk more with his sons. Watching the human child after Papyrus spoke to her, he was quite curious why she seemed to look at nothing for a bit before replying. She was clearly rather shy around strangers, or groups of them at least, and seemed worried about doing anything that might seem rude. An interesting child, for sure, though he didn't want to bother her with a bunch of questions, so he remained silent. Perhaps she would feel more comfortable after talking with another human? Ah, well, he'd just have to wait and see.

Turning back to Papyrus, he smiled. "I'm sure you have some questions, considering my sudden reappearance. Feel free to ask them, I won't mind."

(Ohhh I see Sans catching onto what’s going on >^> Smart)

Mira often taking care of younger children on the surface when she had the time, she saw nothing wrong with getting to know young Alia a bit now that they were the sole humans in the Underground and, despite their age difference, could likely use each other’s support and companionship at times. Sure, monsters were excellent company, but being away from your own kind could wear you down after a while, Mira being very much unaware of any feelings Alia may have held towards others at this point.

Mira getting the hint that Papyrus seemed to want to be able to talk with Sans and Gaster alone though and that’s why he was likely suggesting to Alia that maybe she hang out with her, the skeleton didn’t seem like he wanted to be too direct with Alia as if he were afraid of her getting the wrong idea and assuming she was somehow not part of the family when she very much was.

Stars, this was going to be a whole new world for Papyrus to navigate, Frisk never really having lived with them as Alia was now going to be doing. It wasn’t as if Papyrus thought he needed to perform a...father role though in caring for Alia, him much preferring the thought of being a cool uncle or older sibling to Alia!

Mira taking notice that Alia seemed...to kind of stare off into the distance for a moment, she didn’t want to bother the clearly stressed out child any more than she likely already was with intrusive questions, her offering a hand to the small girl when she finally got the courage to speak up and say her name.

“Hi Alia~ It’s very nice to meet you”, Mira smiling gently, almost like a patient teacher as she felt a sense of proudness that Alia was willing to speak to her, she gently guided Alia away from the serious conversation that the skeleton family seemed they needed to discuss towards her room, “What would you like to do for a bit? Anything in particular?~”.

.............................

Papyrus watching as Alia and Mira walked off with his usual, happy grin until they were out of sight, he had to let out a exhausted sigh once it was just him and his fellow skeletons, this day having been one strange thing after another and everything feeling like it was some weird kind of dream until this very moment.

First Alia had appeared, a odd occupancy as it was...and then to add more to it a monster he had long thought dead had re appeared out of seemingly thin air and wasn’t making much of a fuss about it either, as if it had been expected he would show up again at some point.

“Let’s take a seat why don’t we?”, Papyrus’s voice sounding oddly calm as he motioned to the nearby, well worn couch, the tall skeleton had a lot he wanted to question both Sans and Gaster on, him clearly having caught onto something that had piqued his interest in the recent past, “So, this is all happening incredibly quickly and...it will take a bit of time to adjust to this new living situation, but I am curious overall about one thing...”.

Now, it wasn’t often for Papyrus to look intimidating, but hunched over with his hands clasped in front of him wasn’t a appearance the usually happy monster gave too often and it made him look downright menacing, “Im assuming Sans brought you back through some means of his, correct? Where...were you all this time? Are you aware of everything the Underground has gone through since you disappeared? Do you know about Frisk?”.

(Yeah, Sans is quite clever ^^)
(And Alia and especially Chara are going to be nervous wrecks for a bit until they get to know Mira better :t-sweat: )

Alia shook Mira's hand, doing her best to not seem nervous. She didn't want Mira to think she was scared of her or anything, since she wasn't, she was simply feeling nervous because most humans didn't seem to like her and she wasn't sure if Mira would be the same yet. So far, Mira seemed nice, though, so hopefully there was a good chance she wasn't going to be like the humans Alia was used to.

"It's nice to meet you, too," Alia replied, feeling some relief because Mira was being friendly towards her. That was a good sign, right? Since Mira was putting in the effort to speak with her and not just ignoring her, maybe she might actually want to be friends. To become friends with two humans in one day... That would be quite a change from what Alia was used to on the surface. It would be rather ironic if Alia finally found the humans willing to be friends with her only after leaving the place where practically every human lived, wouldn't it?

When Mira started leading the way away from the others, Alia couldn't help but glance at Sans, who smiled reassuringly. Well, it was clear that Sans thought the two humans hanging out was a good idea, and Alia trusted his judgement nearly as much as Chara's by this point, so she followed Mira without complaint. Chara floated alongside her and quietly told a couple of puns, though they seemed to be masking nervousness.

At Mira's inquiry, Alia hesitated, unsure what to say. She didn't want to make a suggestion that Mira didn't like, feeling a bit afraid that if she did, Mira might not want to be friends with her anymore. "Um, do you like drawing?" Alia asked eventually, looking incredibly nervous despite her best efforts. She hoped that her question wouldn't annoy Mira, as her questions often annoyed other human adults. But she also didn't want to just suggest something without making sure it was something Mira enjoyed as well, since she figured that could result in annoying her even more.

Chara did their best to smile reassuringly at Alia, though it seemed like they were just as worried as she was, even if they were quite a bit better at hiding it. Perhaps they had similar experiences with humans as Alia did... If it weren't for the fact Mira was there and clearly didn't know about Chara's presence, she would have said something to try to help them feel better. The last thing she needed was for Mira to think she sometimes talked to herself...

....

Chara felt increasingly anxious as they and Alia followed Mira away from the others. Sure, Mira seemed much nicer than most of the humans they were used to, but they could not help but worry nonetheless. After all, if it turned out she was faking the friendliness, there was not much Chara could do to protect Alia as a ghost. They really would have felt better if Sans had tagged along as well, since he surely would protect Alia if she ever needed it.

'Calm down,' Chara told themself, 'Sans seems to trust her, and he has been friends with her for a few days, right? There is no way he would let Alia get hurt, so if he thinks this will be fine, it probably will.'

Still, they floated protectively near Alia, as though that would somehow allow them to protect her through sheer Determination despite being incorporeal. They tried to focus on reassuring her in an attempt to forget about how worried they were. Feeling somewhat nervous about the possibility of Mira somehow seeing and hearing them, though, they spoke quietly. Chara... Definitely was not ready to face speaking with any humans other than Alia right now, even if they were nice.

Seeing how worried Alia seemed about making a suggestion, Chara tried to smile reassuringly at her, though they felt just as uncertain as she did. After all, while they knew how the monsters would react, they had absolutely no idea how Mira would. They could not give Alia the perfect advice in this situation, since they had not really had many good experiences with humans themself. They felt basically useless here, unable to really do much to help their friend...

'Pull yourself together. Alia needs you to be strong right now.'

..........

Sans noticed Alia seemed kind of nervous, and smiled reassuringly at her as she left with Mira. Honestly, he felt a bit bad; he figured meeting new people would be a lot easier for her with someone familiar around, and he would have suggested he tag along if it didn't seem like Papyrus wanted him to stick around while he spoke with Gaster. Truly, this was a rather difficult situation; Sans wanted to support both Alia and Papyrus, but he couldn't be in two places at once.

'she'll be alright,' Sans thought. After all, he was sure Mira and Alia would get along well. Nonetheless, he would make sure to check on Alia later to make sure she was adjusting alright to meeting so many new people. With some chocolate and puns involved, of course. Much like how he had taken on the role of taking care of Papyrus after Gaster's disappearance, Sans felt a need to take care of Alia, too.

Refocusing his attention on his brother and father, Sans felt concerned when Papyrus sighed, seeming exhausted. This... Certainly had been a day full of surprises, hadn't it? It really wasn't a surprise that Papyrus might feel overwhelmed by it all, and Sans felt bad that he hadn't really had an opportunity to check in with him and see how he was feeling before now, between everything else that was going on.

The way Papyrus looked almost menacing as he spoke to Gaster confused Sans quite a bit, as Papyrus was generally very friendly to everyone. Maybe it could be chalked up to how overwhelming the day had been, but it was still somewhat unnerving to see his typically cheerful brother acting like this. Sans just listened silently, feeling somewhat curious himself about the answer to Papyrus's question about how much Gaster actually knew about what had been going on.

....

Gaster watched as the humans left, then turned to his sons, feeling rather concerned by how exhausted Papyrus seemed. Of course, he knew that his actions that day had caused quite an upheaval to Papyrus's 'normal' life, between what had happened to Mira and Gaster reappearing suddenly.

Even so, Papyrus acting the way he did as he asked his questions was somewhat startling for Gaster, though he hid it well and seemed to take it in stride. "Yes. I was trapped in the Void. I am aware of most of what has happened during my absence, I believe. And yes, I know about them." Gaster answered Papyrus's questions calmly, inwardly wondering why he asked about Frisk specifically. It seemed a rather random question, though he figured Papyrus must have had some reason behind it.

Maybe it was just the fact that Mira was soft hearted and a bit naive that led her to care for others to the extent that she already felt quite motherly to young Alia, her understanding that the child must have been incredibly fearful of falling down into a world of monsters that mysteriously seemed to hold no ill will towards humans.

The last thing this child needed was to think she was some kind of burden, Mira not exactly having lived the best life on the surface herself and her sensing that was likely the case with Alia in a way due to her shyness. Being gentle and kind was going to be the best way to go to build trust, Mira smiling happily when Alia spoke up and asked if she liked to draw like a brave little human.

“Oh yeah, I love drawing! Not too long ago me and those bone heads out there drew pictures of each other just for fun”, Mira thinking back fondly on how Sans had done his best to sketch Papyrus, that had been when she had just been getting used to the Underground and monsters in general, the brothers truly having helped Mira to adjust to her new life.

“I bet there is some drawing stuff in your room~ How about we go check?”, Mira leading the way to Alia’s room so that the child might be more comfortable in a space met just for her, Mira knew that Alia was going to have a good family here, but now it would be a matter of convincing Alia of the same and that she would be safe.

...........................................

It would have been a underestimation to say that Papyrus was exhausted about everything that had gone on today and that he really did just want to sleep, but the skeleton for all his seemingly goofy nature could be deadly serious when he felt like being so just as Sans was capable of, his wariness of Gaster being about as high as it could be right now.

Papyrus didn’t -like- having to look menacing, but the last thing he wanted to see was Alia, Mira, or Sans dragged into anything devious the scientist may have planned now that Sans had somehow managed to bring him back out of seemingly nowhere, Papyrus having his own form of guilt over...certain past events that he dealt with to bring him to this level, his stresses not being the remembrance of resets like his brothers but ones that concerned a certain little flower that he had once befriended out of sheer kinship.

When it came down to it, the skeleton merely wanted to know if this newcomer was truly who he said he was on top of all this, it obviously being quite a blow to know their father of all monsters had still been alive all this time. Papyrus had been raised by Sans with the assumption that they had no real parents to speak of, it just feeling a bit strange to know a ‘ghost’ had been watching them all this time.

“O-oh...I see....I guess that makes sense”, Papyrus nodding once as it did seem that Gaster must have truly been aware of everything if he knew about Frisk, he seemed to not be nearly as tense now that he could hopefully think of Gaster as being honest, “Sorry about all the weird questions all of a sudden. Of course, if you have any of your own I bet me and Sans could answer them! I mean, you said you could pretty much see everything that went on down here, but....you were gone for a really long time, y’know?”.

Papyrus crossing his arms and sitting back into the couch into a more comfortable position, he was excited to have their father back obviously after nearly a decade, but there were going to be a -lot- of things that needed to be tied up between the three skeletons.

Alia was very relieved to hear that Mira liked drawing, and to see that her question hadn't bothered her. Alia grinned when she heard that Sans and Papyrus had drawn pictures as well; she wondered if they would want to draw with her sometime, too. Though, she wasn't sure if she would have enough courage to ask...

"Okay," Alia agreed, following Mira with a hopeful expression. It seemed like she really did want to be friends, which was quite a surprise for Alia. She never would have expected to make two human friends in one day before... Even finding one friend was unexpected.

As Alia followed Mira towards her room, she glanced at Chara. They seemed somewhat less nervous as well, though still a bit uncertain as they floated along beside her. Alia smiled at them when she was sure Mira wasn't looking, wanting to reassure them that things would be alright. After all, why would Mira bother to agree to draw with her if she didn't want anything to do with her? As long as Alia didn't end up annoying her accidentally somehow, everything would be fine, surely!

Still a bit worried she would ruin things somehow, Alia did her best to keep her expression hopeful, not wanting to give Mira the wrong idea by seeming too worried. It did feel kind of inevitable that Alia would mess up at some point, though; the majority of humans didn't like her, and she had no idea why, so how could she possibly avoid it?

Shoving those thoughts aside as they reached her room, Alia felt a bit better at the reminder of how the monsters had taken her in. She spotted some paper and pencils, and smiled as she picked up two pieces of paper and two pencils and offered one of each to Mira.

....

Seeing Mira's reaction to Alia's question was positive, Chara felt slightly better, though they doubted their nervousness would truly go away for awhile. Trusting humans felt incredibly unnatural to them, only Alia being an exception to this since she had proven she wanted to be friends with the monsters and would never hurt them. Though it certainly didn't seem like Mira would hurt them either, Chara had long since learned that trusting people too quickly would just get you hurt.

Or, in this case, their friends, since Chara was incorporeal, not that that offered the slightest bit of reassurance for them. They cared about the monsters who had been so kind to them, and now Alia too, much more than they cared about themself, after all.

Still, Chara could not bring themself to crush the hope clearly rising within Alia by saying that. So, Chara did their best to hide their apprehension when they saw Alia look at them. She so clearly wanted everything to work out, and Chara hoped that it would. They managed to smile back at her, despite how uncertain they felt. They didn't want her to worry, after all... They would probably be worrying more than enough for both of them, if they were honest with themself. It was not that they expected she would get hurt, more that they were just extremely anxious about most humans, considering how they were treated on the surface and what happened to the monsters.

...........

Gaster was glad to see Papyrus become less tense after he answered the questions, still feeling rather bad for startling him earlier. It was clear that the events of the day had been quite a lot for him to deal with, too, and Gaster sighed inwardly, knowing that it was entirely his fault. "Don't worry, I completely understand if you have many questions for me, you can ask as many as you want." Gaster smiled reassuringly, to show he didn't mind the questions, even if he had been a bit confused. After all, considering Papyrus had seemingly no memory of him whatsoever, Gaster had honestly been expecting more questions.

Thinking for a bit to decide what question to ask first, Gaster eventually spoke again, "If you don't mind, I'd like to just get to know you, so feel free to talk about anything- like your hobbies, or whatever you want to, really." Gaster figured leaving it open ended so Papyrus could discuss whatever he wanted would probably be best for now, as he was likely still overwhelmed by the day's events. There would be plenty of time for more specific questions later, anyway.

....

Sans continued to just listen silently as his brother and father talked, too preoccupied by a myriad of thoughts to even think about joining the conversation right now. It was a relief to see Papyrus become less tense, since Sans really didn't want him to feel uncomfortable due to their father's reappearance. Nonetheless, Sans still made a mental note to check on Papyrus after the conversation was over and see how he was dealing with everything.

Maybe if Mira had had a better life on the surface she would have been well suited to being a caretaker for smaller children due to her gentleness towards even the slightly older Alia, her being quite patient with the girl and allowing her to set her own pace as to how they got to know each other, Mira not wanting to scare Alia by pushing them too hard in any one direction of what they should do.

So far, Alia seemed like a really sweet and quiet kid who was likely just in shock still over falling into the Underground and such, her imagining that a child must have been ten times afraid as she was on her first encounter with Sans who she had truly thought was a demon from Hell before he had healed her broken leg.

“How about we draw our favourite animals?~ I bet Sans and Pap would love to see what some creatures from the surface look like!”, Mira beaming happily as Alia handed her some supplies to draw with, she took a stop near the girls bed as she began to sketch out a giraffe, “Or maybe a pet? Did you ever have a dog or cat, Alia?”.

........................

Papyrus may have actually been quite a bit intimidating when he was being truly serious, but the said seriousness disappeared almost as quickly as it came once he came to the conclusion that Gaster was not a threat to either him or Sans nor the vulnerable humans they were entrusted to look after.

Between worrying constantly about his brothers low HP (and laziness) and now Alia and Mira, Papyrus was one stressed out puppy, even if he hid that anxiety behind making puzzles and traps.

Papyrus did have a million and one questions he wanted to ask Gaster, ranging from what he used to do as a Royal scientist to much, much bigger questions that were likely best left unanswered such as if they had a mother...and if not, why did Gaster create them, and how.

Papyrus was no dummy despite his chaotic personality. There were no other skeletons in the Underground and there hadn’t been for a long time, which met only two things in his mind....either their father was hella old or he had done the very much forbidden act of cloning at some point.

“Heh! I do have quite a lot of hobbies actually! Cooking, creating puzzles to capture humans, training with Undyne, reading those weird comics that Alphys collects! Did you know that humans are strong enough to heft swords ten times their weight over their heads??”, Child like excitement over sharing this very much unproved claim glimmering in Papyrus’s eyes as geluisterd off his many activities in the Underground, he thought for a moment before adding one to the list.

“And...it’s not really much of hobby or anything, but I like listening to Sans here talk about the stars and astronomy from the human books that wash up down here”, Papyrus glancing at Sans sheepishly as if he were talking about the bedtime stories he needed to fall asleep, it was for good reason...having a interest in the stars was pretty damn stupid when they were never going to see the surface anyways, “Have -you- ever seen a real one?”.

Alia nodded immediately at Mira's suggestion of drawing animals, not wanting to upset her by not going along with it considering Mira had agreed to her idea of drawing in the first place. Besides, Alia didn't mind the idea of drawing animals, since there were so many interesting animals on the surface. Plus, she really did want to thank Sans and Papyrus for taking her in, so if showing them pictures of animals would make them happy, she would be glad to.

When Mira asked if she had any pets, Alia shook her head nervously. "No, I haven't... Have you?" Secretly, Alia figured it was probably a good thing she hadn't had any pets. Considering how little her parents paid any attention to her, Alia doubted any pets would have been treated any better. They would have been ignored as well, possibly going without food if her parents forgot to buy any for them like they sometimes did with Alia... Plus, being animals, the pets probably wouldn't have known to stay out of the way... Or maybe, her parents would have cared about the pet much more than they cared about Alia, which was an even more depressing thought. Though at least then the pet would be happy... 'Stop thinking about it, you'll ruin this!' Alia told herself.

She blinked a few times to refocus her attention on the paper in front of her, and off of her thoughts. Right, animals. What should she draw? Mira had said to draw her favorite, so with a bit of hesitation, she began sketching the shape of a bird, carefully and methodically working on the drawing until the species became clear. A crow.

Alia liked crows. They were clever and intelligent, and fiercely loyal. They would never forget the face of someone who showed them kindness, and would visit those individuals, often bringing gifts. And they also remembered those who wronged them, so they could avoid them in the future.

She could sense Chara watching her draw from over her shoulder, and occasionally glanced at them out of the corner of her eyes when she figured Mira wasn't looking. Chara smiled as they saw what she was drawing, and Alia figured they must like crows as well. It was reassuring to know that her friend liked her drawing, and Alia felt much better between that and the calming feeling of just drawing something quietly.

..........

Gaster smiled as Papyrus began listing his hobbies, clearly happy to be listening to him talking excitedly about things he enjoyed. It was difficult not to chuckle at Papyrus's claim about the ability of humans to carry swords much heavier than they were, but somehow Gaster managed it. While Gaster was relatively certain that particular 'fact' wasn't true at all, he wasn't about to ruin Papyrus's mood by saying so.

Hearing Papyrus add on that he liked listening to Sans talk about the stars, Gaster glanced between his sons curiously. Noticing a small smile appear on Sans' face at his brother's mention of the stars and astronomy, Gaster figured Sans must like astronomy a lot. Gaster was rather confused why Papyrus seemed sheepish about it, but Papyrus distracted him with a question before he could ask.

"Ah, yes, a very, very long time ago." Gaster replied. "Back before the war, when monsters still lived on the surface." It was rather sad to recall those times, considering it was unlikely monsterkind would ever be able to return to the surface... Still, Gaster had said he would answer any questions Papyrus had, so he wasn't about to back down now.

Seeing Sans looked curious, Gaster continued, "I have no doubt you already know most of what I know about them from what you've read. But, as far as seeing them myself... They were small, pinpricks of light all across the sky."

Looking amazed, Sans asked, "did you see any constellations?"

"Ah, I'm afraid if I did, I don't recall which ones. It was quite a long time ago." Gaster replied apologetically. Turning back to Papyrus, he added, "I'm quite glad to hear you have so many hobbies. Most of my own hobbies are science related, though I do find puzzles entertaining from time to time. Perhaps sometime, you could show me some of the puzzles you made?" Gaster hoped showing an interest in one of Papyrus's hobbies would help them to bond.

Wow, from what Mira could sense coming from Alia this child was really, really tense and probably terrified of disagreeing with her on even the smallest things, her heart aching for this poor kid and wishing she knew some way to help, her having her own share of demons and the like that she had to cope with in order to function like a normal human being.

Mira’s own life on the surface was far from perfect, but Alia seemed to be on a whole other level of needing some type of comforting presence, Mira being more than willing to provide that alongside Sans if that was what the girl truly desired.

“I did have a dog on the surface, his name was Rus~”, Mira smiling brightly as she remembered her fluffy little canine that had likely been taken in by a friend or two now as they inevitably searched for her hopelessly, she tried to not let her sadness get to her in order to avoid it transfer it to Alia, “He was a sweet little thing~ Hey, maybe you will get to see him someday? I bet that would cheer you up”.

Her deciding to lean away from the topic once she sensed that Alia may have been getting a bit wigged out by it, Mira instead focused on drawing her own image while Alia began to draw a crow, her humming softly as she did so in a sort of self soothing tempo.

“What do you think?”, Mira showing Alia her image of a giraffe after a while with a smile, if she knew there was another, invisible child looking over Alias shoulder she may have asked their opinion as well, her bound to feel guilty in time for not paying attention to the oh so odd feeling that she was being watched whenever she was around Alia, “Your crow is looking wonderful~! Or is it a raven? They do look quite similar y’know~”.

............................

Papyrus not really seeing anything odd with his claims that humans could do amazing feats of strength while Gaster simply smiled and accepted it without question, it seemed that him and Sans were partially in the same vein as accepting Papyrus’s wild stories in order to keep the peace and avoid a million other questions in the process.

The skeleton wasn’t at all ashamed to spill Sans love of astronomy to their father due to his own curiosity about the stars that were supposed to exist on the surface, but it was considered a bit fool hardy to really think anyone living would ever see them again, hence Papyrus’s slight hesitance with asking Gaster if he had ever seen the stars himself.

The fact that the scientist -had- seen the stars was enough to nearly bring them to Papyrus’s own, even if they were described as mere pinpricks across the sky rather than the ceilings in waterfall that glowed at a much more manageable height.

“Wowie! That’s so cool!”, The tall skeleton thinking it amazing that they were related to one of the last monsters, besides the King of course, who had seen the surface, it was bound to lead to Papyrus’s self confidence rising from its recent downward spiral with him overthinking certain things and all.

Papyrus wasn’t a fool and knew that Sans wasn’t truly happy despite his puns and constant grin. He had been hiding it for the most part, but Papyrus was...really beginning to lose hope that they were ever going to seethe surface at all, his recent, ‘dangerous’ traps most likely being a outlet for his frustration that there didn’t seem to be a human that fell down here they didn’t befriend and took their Souls.

“I would be grateful to show you my best puzzles! Of course, I haven’t made any fit for a monster in quite some time”, Papyrus putting a hand to his chin in thought for a second, his eye sockets widened momentarily as he gasped, “Hmmm, you have been gone for basically forever y’know...what if I create a puzzle to test out your magic to make sure it’s in top shape??”.
