The teams awaited the first place announcement of the breeding competition in the grand hall. The Wooly Jumpers were there in their bouncy, wooly glory, and the Mist Stalkers prowled around the fringes of the room. The anaugi periodically spat flames, keeping the drafty hall warm.

Near the front sat the Rainbow Connection Puvia, the enormous family taking up space in the rafters, every so often a rainbow feather trailing down. At the lead sat the most magnificent Puvia of all, head of a long lineage, the longest of any of the competing teams.

Then something rumbled, plates and cups rattling. More rainbow feathers fell from the rafters.

A few magi leapt up, and one young woman hurried to the windows. She turned back to the gathered crowd, white-faced. “Get away from the—!”

It was too late. With a growing rumble and then a deafening bang, over 6000 Hippocampi poured through the doors.

“Oh great,” a magi muttered before being shoved into the corner, the grand hall suddenly filled beyond capacity. “The Sun Callisto are here.”
