We could have a shortlist from an open thread, then we could have different judging categories so judges' choice vs popular vote.

Ok so basically;

- When are we starting it?
- What's the duration?
- Who can participate? Anyone on the forum (thread in Zocalo)?
- How are we going to do the judging?
- Who are going to be the judges
- What the prizes are going to be - doni for the 2 best names? (for the male and female progenitors), other creatures? gold?
- Is everyone gifted something, as thanks to participating?

Anything I missed?

I think names should be related to colors - not necessarily rainbow. Would be a nice lead in to rainbow.

@StormShinjou - When you share the Echo-tree, you are sharing it with the member you have highlighted. I noticed that and sent an inquiry to the developers, who said that is by design. The Echo-tree service is not necessarily made for public viewing, but for family members to share info.

I will note the developers also said they were surprised at how many ppl are using it for "other types of families" and have been watching people like us for a bit. They are "considering other options for public viewing" - however considering the intent of the site and the private information associated with records (tree members) it will take some further development.

It is an interesting tool though, and I've already started a few other Echo-trees (other lineages, my VoU lines, and yes, my RL family - who I already got some family members hooked in).

@Zoa - Really? huh o.o I never noticed it was editable even with 'do not edit' option on. Weird!

Think that's about it, so I'll start filling in a bunch of (tentative?) answers? We definitely have willing tributes in the thread, not sure about how quickly I can assemble a prize pool but participating prizes is definitely an option.

Edit: How about a criterion (or criteria?) so people know what to suggest and what not to suggest?

For the rules (yes should have some, I guess )
- Is there going to be a maximum number of names one can suggest? Say 5-7 or 10? I think there should be a limit, if not, one person will suggest about 50 names and that wouldn't be a fair chance to the others
- Are they supposed to make one post and are able to edit it until the contest is over? This will save us time noting all the names one particular member makes
- If 2 people suggest the same name and that name gets picked, the first one to suggest it wins? (as per the time stamp)
- Any posts that are edited after we say contest is over are disregarded?

The criterion would probably serve more as a guide, but idk

How about 10 names for either male or female, no-repeat policy so only the first person suggesting a name counts?

It might be easier to just have people post if they have a submission (submissions) so the timestamps for each name would be accurate (and might save a bit of drama, you never know). I could always set up a google doc, so results come tabulated. >Should make things easy so long as people spell their own name right and don't attempt to spam it. Then again, there are people who don't like offsite links

Sounds good. So if members are able to make new posts with name suggestions and they go over the limit of 10, we disregard everything else and only take into account the first 10 he/she suggested? I ask this because, there ARE those who totally disregard rules and do things their own way. This, I know from experience
