Its most likely Cloudflare. Fanfiction.Net is on CF too and that site has the same issues, loading errors, bad gateways, pages resetting. I know a while ago people were saying that was the issue as well I believe.
I've noticed the problems pop up the most during times of heavy traffic when lots of users are active. The Prism Fox Release being the most recent.
Dreading the Holiday Rush this year. please make the pet releases long, that way there won't be such a overload on the system. the poor old girl can only take so many people clicking eggs at once.

i'm not as active as i used to be. (partly due to the issues on here but mostly due to chronic health issues) but it seems whenever i come back after being off for a time, the same problems plague things here... lag and being logged off.
i really hope the number/year thirteen isn't unlucky for the place. it's kind of nice to have at least One of the old bastion left from days gone by. it's not like ms is even the oldest one but it's pretty much the Only one still seeming to be up n running... however clunky that may be. [sighs]
anyway, i just wanted to weigh in for whatever it's worth.

Just saw this. I'm kind of glad to see I'm not the only one having issues with this site, particularly with bad gateway errors. I was partially wondering it it had something to do with the browser I was using, but it looks like that's probably not the case.
I really do hope Magistream has a lot of life left in it still yet. Another event and another round of horrendous lag and continuous bad gateway errors. This is beyond rediculous at this point.
I am in the process of moving house, so I will not be around much for the foreseeable future.

Is there any update on fixing these errors? Or moving Magistream to something other than Cloudflare? I know that'd take at least a couple days of complete site shutdown, and probably a fair amount of money(which I'm sure we could have a fundraising-type event?).. but like so many others have said, this is kinda getting out of hand.
A lot of the people around Magistream are still the ones like myself that joined back in 2009/2010/2011 and we tolerate these issues cause, well, we've been around so long it seems like a waste to abandon ship now. Maybe it's just me, but I don't often see new players sticking around for more than a couple weeks anymore. To a degree this is normal, fresh players tend to come and go, but from what I've seen, it's rarer to see a user that joined in 2022/2021 being active than a user from 2009-2011. Which doesn't make sense since generally websites grow in user with time. Again, maybe I'm wrong, but if I were fairly new to this site, I wouldn't stick around either to be honest, which just leaves us oldies roaming around. I remember there being the occasional gateway error through the years, especially during events... but they were far and few between and generally didn't linger. Now it takes forever just to pick up an egg from the stream(and God forbid someone picked it up before you and you have to try again).
If this isn't fixed soon, I'd say Magistream is on a fast track to dying, because eventually this is going to reach a point where it's basically impossible to participate in events or new releases. If people can't participate, especially in events, without pulling out all their hair trying to get one creature, the oldies like us that already probably have 100 pairs of every other creature will get irritated that they can't get the newest batch of creatures that they don't have. If they can't get the new batch of creatures, then they're gonna end up losing interest in Magistream altogether, because, again, they already have everything else.
EDIT: Oh and the LAG. Geez I haven't experienced lag like this since I was a kid when internet speeds were still slow as hell.

Here's where we're at, at the moment:
Due to the intermittent and elusive nature of the lag, we still haven't been able to pinpoint what's causing the issue. It may be Cloudflare, it may be the database, it may be the server, it may be some of the software running on the server, it may be a combination of any of these. I've scoured the internet for all and every similar occurrence others are having and tried fixes that have worked for others. Yet they don't work for us.
At this point it's pretty obvious that more troubleshooting isn't really going to give more information, so we've been exploring and throwing around different options on how to proceed. Those ideas have included e.g. changing servers, or updating the majority of MS codebase, or updating some parts of the MS codebase, or changing some of the software running on the server, or doing something to cloudflare, among other things. As many of these would require a bit bigger overhaul, we're still weighing in all the options before deciding what course to take next. Some things have already been decided, but we still have some work to do in order to be able to proceed.
Our team is painfully aware of the closing holiday season, and hopefully we'll have at least some more information about our next steps very soon, so that we'll have more to tell you all, but for now I'm afraid it's still the same old "it's broken, we don't know why, so we don't specifically how to fix it".
