So I named my first few creatures when I joined, but I later decided I don't want to have to think of a name for every new creature I get because that's just SO many names.
Unfortunately the lack of uniformity it's created in my keep bothers my perfectionism so much that I'm happy to pay 2k each just to unname the ones with names. But apparently there isn't any way to remove a name? And naming them 'unnamed' just gives the same message that I'm presuming curse words/other disallowed words would get. Ironically 'Unnamed' is allowed but sadly still not uniform enough for me lol
Anyways this post is half a question and half a suggestion. Is there a reason the word 'unnamed' isn't allowed? Is there a way to remove a creatures name? If not I'd like to suggest making that an option, at least for creatures that you hatched yourself.

Re: Unnaming Creatures
The reason why you can't use "unnamed" is that if you name a creature "unnamed" and then later sell it to someone, you can trick the buyer into thinking it's never been named. Then, if that someone wishes to name the creature, they now have to pay the 2k fee to rename.
Only one person can unname creatures and that's the NPC Master Belmos. He uses it for critters that have been donated, or taken from banned accounts. They're unfrozen and unnamed to help them find a new home.
Maybe you can find someone who'll trade their unnamed critters with your named ones, you can put up a post in Kancha for that.

Re: Unnaming Creatures
Couldn't this be solved by having people pay to reset the name to it's default state rather than having them pay for the new name? After it's reset you or whoever purchases the creature could then name it w/o needing to pay a second time.NyxNoire wrote:The reason why you can't use "unnamed" is that if you name a creature "unnamed" and then later sell it to someone, you can trick the buyer into thinking it's never been named. That's a good idea, I'll pass it on to the people deciding thatMorphine wrote:Couldn't this be solved by having people pay to reset the name to it's default state rather than having them pay for the new name? I support this idea, but I also wanted to add the extra feedback that in various different games from the past, naming and un-naming a creature were really not a big deal and the feature to be able to name/unname creatures was free unlimited.NyxNoire wrote:That's a good idea, I'll pass it on to the people deciding thatMorphine wrote:Couldn't this be solved by having people pay to reset the name to it's default state rather than having them pay for the new name? I honestly wish it had been this way for this site for many years now. I understand it's a gold sink, but then I'd ask the question of how much gold has this gold sink taken out of the system through the years? and has the amount of gold declined throughout all those years and if it has then why don't we make a big change and just remove it already?
My biggest peeve is, I donate and buy myself donis and then if I make a small naming mistake (like a misspelling) I have to pay 50k or 100k gold or whatever on my own doni that I paid with my own shards? That's pretty unfair and it's a big reason I barely name anything on my entire account.
Preventing bad names/bad words etc is completely fair and understandable but the added artificial gold sink to naming has never been fun ever. It's too expensive and knowing that other games made this feature a non-issue I don't see why changes can't be made.

Re: Danafox suggestion
I heartily agree. Its absurd to me that it’s costs so much to rename ANYTHING, that it’s not actually worth it to do so- why would anyone spend 2000g to rename a stream creature that sells for 200-500g in the MD? And once they are named, you can barely give them away. I’ve offered named stream creatures in my FREE tab before, and they invariably end up with Belmos because no one wants them.
I also like the original suggestion to be able to set a name back to default instead of having to rename.
