Some Site Improvements?

Post by sparkpaw »

So, I've had a few ideas for site improvements - I don't know if this should go in the general suggestions thread so just let me know and I'll post it there, but one of my suggestions has to do with code, so I thought I'd post it out here. :)

Suggestion 1
I just finished sorting - okay, I just started sorting, but I stopped lol, my nearly 1,000 Hollowjacks, and I know plenty of others having massive armies of creatures that have a unique coloration that isn't identifiable. So, a suggestion for sorting the keep would be to have Checkboxes when you go to sort your keep pop up so you can select and move multiple individuals at a time (i.e. the blue hollowjacks) and have options for Select All, Deselect All, Move to Top, Move to Bottom, etc. Sort of how we can already sort our inbox.

Also, options for sorting via gender would be neat, I think, or if there could be a token added to the creatures on the back end to let the system recognize when sorting which ones are Primary color and which are Alt, so if you have a "Sort by Rarity" button perhaps, it could do that for you. Though, that might be more painful to implement in retrospect for the 1,000+ creatures we have.

Suggestion 2
I know we can bookmark topics, but could we also add a feature for subscribing to topics? Or adding a tag system, if possible? I'm sure others have done this but I frequently find myself posting to purchase something and losing that thread/forgetting to track it and either I spend too much gold (I'd probably do that any, let's be real) or the creatures get sold to someone else because I forgot for a week.

Suggestion 3
I know there's the MagiWiki, but since it is fan-run, it isn't always up to date, and honestly could use a little bit of love. I've seen a few posts commenting on quests being confusing or difficult and that things are scattered about. I tend to agree with them myself, having completed absolutely zero quests personally because, well, mainly because ADHD brain says "effort"; but I feel like having a page here to help navigate new users (other than the world, but maybe connected to the world?) that has examples of like, beginner quests like getting Koi eggs and the like versus the harder "expert" quests like the newest creature due to moss snails being suddenly impossible to obtain. So just a nice introductory "Welcome Apprentice! Let's show you around the Keep and give you some optional homework" would be cute, in my opinion. And... if this is already existant, I've never seen it, so the suggestion would then be to make it VERY easy to find.

Somewhat related to the above note about moss snails being hard to find despite them being "Stream (very common)", would be either a statistics tool that displays creature refresh (I can find Anacita Bunny (common) FAR more frequently than the moss snail, despite the supposed refresh being more common for the snail than the bunny), or a way to report eggs that just don't seem to appear where and how often they should be.

As always, open to feedback! Thoughts?

As per my answer over here: https://magistream.com/2-support-and-su ... #p23145689 more keep sorting options are accepted and will thus be implemented at some point. The system already recognizes which creatures are the main form and which are shinies, it has to be able to deduce which image to show, after all. :derr: However sorting by main/shiny (or any kind of creature color, which is information that doesn't exist anywhere) won't be among the new sort options.

You can already subscribe to topics. There is a "Subscribe topic"-option at the bottom of every thread, next to the topic bookmarking.

The Library https://magistream.com/library.php Lists all the quests with quest texts and locations. All quests post 2014 should list over there quite plainly how much gold and/or which creatures each quest requires. All older quests don't have that information as readily available, though, as it hasn't been added to every quest yet.

The stream works in mysterious ways, and all "very commons" don't have the same appearance rate within that category just as all "commons" don't have the same appearance rate within that category. With the amount of stream creature species we have and with nine egg slots on the stream, there'd need to be quite a large sample size of creatures to determine whether or not a creature appears as often as it should, or if the lack of seeing them is merely a combination of bad luck and statistics. Each egg slots in the stream is filled individually without relation to the other egg slots, so technically it would be possible, though very unlikely, for the stream to be constantly flooded with the rarest stream creature and the most common never appearing.

The "very common", "common", "uncommon", and "rare" indicators on creatures don't tell the actual numbers of how often those creatures appear on the stream, just the probability of appearing. ^_^

Some statistics could be pulled of how many stream born individuals of each species is gotten on each day, but that wouldn't tell how many of them had appeared on the stream either, as those that don't get picked up wouldn't get counted.

I blame typing all of that at 4 am for why I missed so many obvious points haha. Thank you for your response!!

Also, very good point about the stream... maybe we need more streams. (kidding, lol... unless... xD)

Thank you! :3
