Goldmine

Post by Franou »

Hi everyone !

I need some help about goldmining please. Before my several years hiatus, I used to goldmine a lot on my old computer and it worked so well with an old Opera version, a Javascript file, and a Monkey app. It was so great, I could lauch several goldmine pages in the same time, go to school, and be a rich magi when I came back home

I'm back on the game since few month, with a new computer, and I try to go back to that great goldmine time. I tried with my old computer but no way, Opera is too old, nothing worked anymore. So I searched for threads on the forum, sure that some players would have asked the same question, and I found some elements. I tried several things, for few month I goldmine with Chrome, I put TamperMonkey on it, then the CloseIt script, and Linkclumps. It works, but OMG it's so, so, SOOO slow  When I launch more than 1000 links, even just 1000 links sometimes, it's so hard for Chrome.

So I tried again with Opera. I tried to install the old 12.18 version, but impossible to add any extension on it, nothing exists, and I can't do anything without having security popups everywhere. So I put the last version of Opera, with TamperMonkey, CloseIt script in it, and an addon which allows Opera to install Chrome extension, to put Linkclumps, because without that Opera doesn't find it.

It's working, but still very slow, even if it's better than with Chrome.

So finally, here's my question : for magis who are using Windows 10, what do you use to goldmine ?

Thank you so much by advance for your help, because it's driving me crazy :splat: :woo:

I'm using Opera 12.18. Snaplinks might not be on the store anymore, but you can download the OEX file here, run it, and it'll install the extension just fine. And you don't need Tampermonkey or anything because Opera 12 can run the CloseIT script itself. Just need to make sure that the script is updated to https instead of http, and go into opera:config to enable Javascript for HTTPS pages.

I've never had any problems with security popups though, so I'm not sure what's going on there. What caused them and what did they say?

Hey  Thank you for your answer :bounce:

I just opened my Opera 12.18, and plenty of these opened :
Spoiler

One window for everything, Magistream, Google, Google Analytics, Facebook, Amazon, Booking, Opera forum, Opera addons, etc.

It was the websites I got on my SpeedDial, so I deleted everything except Magistream.

I now just have to find your "enable Javascript for HTTPS pages", keep searching where it's hidden  Because I put the CloseIt script (modified with https) on a .js file, put it in a folder and linked it to Opera in the Preferences > Advanced > Content > JavaScript options, but the script doesn't seem to work.

EDIT : I finally found and it's working now !! Thank you so much for your help :woo:

Sorry about taking so long to reply, I can be a bit of a scatterbrain, don't usually spend much time on the forums here, and at some point I guess I turned off notifications for replies.

Anyway, from some googling it seems like this can be caused by a number of different things. Not having the correct date and time set on your system, antivirus getting in the way, proxies getting in the way, malware that messes with certificates, Opera just not working right...my intuition, for what that's worth, is that it's probably your antivirus.

You can just turn off SSL scanning, which is the part that causes problems. The internet seems to be divided on whether or not it makes you safer anyway or might actually even make you more vulnerable. You might be able to whitelist sites or certificates or something instead, but I'm not really sure how you'd go about that. Or if it is actually possible.

If you're using a proxy, then as I said that could also be causing issues. Might have to turn it off.

Seems like the thing most likely to work regardless of what the issue is, is right-clicking on the Opera shortcut, clicking Properties, which should take you to the Shortcut tab, and there in the Target box, add "--ignore-certificate-errors" on the end(without quotes). If you don't have the shortcut on your desktop, then click Start, find the shortcut there, right-click, More, Open File Location.

Hey

My turn to be sorry about that long time to reply... Thank you so much for helping me :t-kiss:

I tried the --ignore-certificate-errors, but nothing changed. But looking to this :

it seems that it comes from my Kaspersky antivirus, so I keep searching for something to change in it.

Apparently you can add an exception for a site with Kaspersky, instructions here.

If that doesn't work, you can also turn off SSL scanning altogether. Again, there doesn't seem to be a solid consensus on whether or not SSL scanning makes you safer, so...may or may not be taking a bit of a risk by turning it off. Though you could just turn it off when you're gonna mine a bunch, then turn it back on after. Instructions for that are on the same page, "How to remove the certificate warning messages by disabling encrypted connections scanning" directly above the exclusion list instructions.
