I’ve been gone for quite awhile but I noticed some creatures come with alternative looks!
1. How do you tell if a creature rotates or has alts? They appear the same to me in the bestiary but maybe I’m just not looking at the right place *shrugs *
2. Is there a list for all creatures with alts somewhere?
3. Is the forgotten unicorn alts or a rotating sprite?
I can just give you a list. Forgotten Unicorns rotate.
Creatures that rotate based on time that CAN be frozen with Moon Shards:
Forgotten Unicorn (4 forms, change as hatchlings as well)
Vilodaes Crystalwing (4 forms, change as hatchlings as well)
Aurean, Azraq, and Firoza Baublebees. (2 forms each, change as hatchlings and eggs as well)
Creatures that rotate based on time but CANNOT be frozen with Moon Shards:
Ruin Lizard (3 rotating colours, visible as hatchlings)
Me'chuan Bengolo (4 rotating alts of different big cats, visible as hatchlings)
Me'chuan Rewana (same as above)
Solar & Lunar Koi (3 alts each, adults and eggs only)
Creatures with random alts visible as hatchlings, that are not time based:
Hollowjack (blue)
Nhirudo (purple)
Creeper (purple, green, and blue)
Rabbitsune (normal kitsune, Arkenian kitsune, Fire Kitsune, Ice Kitsune)
Cypheles Pygmy Gemdragon & Crystalwing (black)
Ruin Astridae (3 colours)
Eshmeri (light and dark brown, visible as hatchlings and eggs)
Foxfire Skulk (red and black)
Creatures with random alts visible as adults, that are not time based:
Alvean Thornweb Spider (blue)
Cypheles Crystalwing (black)
Creatures with alts under special circumstances:
Spider Lights (3 colours, can be stopped from rotating using a Pack of Lightbulbs from the Artificer Shop)
Mohriors (4 alts based on 4 animals, can be stopped from rotating by naming the creature)
Latifra Beast (white, transformed creature)
Checking the Bestiary for each creatures DOES give you the alts, but doesn't say where or how to get them for most nor does it say if they rotate or are random alts. Prismatic Sepiida, also rotate, and can be named to stop the rotation.

Not from an immediate glance at the list, no. There's no option to search by alt or anything either. I just noticed the Prismatic Sepiida (doni) and Mohrior DO tell you how to stop rotation, but Forgotten Unis and a bunch of others don't. Hm.
There's actually a few lot more with rotating sprites. Mostly ones that can't be stopped

Also the Nhirudo alt is NOT visible when it's a hatchling
