You swooped into the desert of my life,
cool rain after a drought.
Merciless in your every attempt to once again fill
that which had shriveled near death.
This was yesterday.

Tender words you spoke into an ear
that had been fed only cruelties.
Fragile confidence you took into gentle hands
and cradled to your chest as you ascended when I could not.
This was yesterday.

A tattered old book with stories to tell,
wrapped in a blue velvet ribbon.
Pressed into my hands with a smile on your face
and a promise to read it together.
This was yesterday.

You curled into my hand,
the smallest seed you plucked from the tree.
Your laugh filled my soul as you proudly declared
that this tree would someday be as tall as we believed we were.
This was yesterday.

Rain doesn't last.
Words mean nothing
when spoken from the lips of a liar.
The book will burn in the wake of my fury,
and that seed was chokevine.

Keep your yesterday,
remain inside of it if you must.
But I am the universe,
and tomorrow will not be stopped.

I must say, as a lover of poetry, this was excellent! I enjoyed reading it and I could feel the passion and fury behind it all as well as the resolve to carry on. Beautifully well done, MadameRed!
