Hollow soul. Thestrals are copyrighted. Lycans are copyrighted. Werewolves are not. You specifically differentiated your suggestion from a werewolf (which, by the way is already on the list under Mythological creatures, Lycanthrope and has been rejected.) You used a term that was, to the best of my knowledge, specific to that movie, and you were attempting to differentiate between the werewolf (not copyrighted) and the early lycans consistent with the backstory of that particular movie. You either need to clarify how this is a unique concept that is not already covered under 'already suggested' creatures and neither is it copyrighted by an existing

If you are not going to provide documentation (That is a link or reference to a book, article, or other source regarding actual myths or heraldry containing the Thestrals) cease to suggest it. If she invented them (and it strongly appears she did) then they are HER intellectual property. They are not a myth in any world but her own, which means they are not available for general use the way the concept of gryphon or the concept of dragon are. Those are concepts that are not unique to any given story or author, rather are specific to a culture or many cultures. If you disagree you'll have to argue with US copyright law, not us.

I have found death horses, horses ridden by the horsemen of the apocalypse. Skeletal horses, but nothing that matches Rowling's very specific description of the Thestral. Enough.

It was my understanding that they also owned the copyright to their specific image of Cinderella. Which makes sense, but I don't think it should have disqualified my story from the magazine.
Though it was a bit long. Maybe that was part of the decision as well.

Though I still love the idea of the werewolf, but if it's been denied anyway, I've just given up on subjecting anything at all seeing as how everyone else took what I could give out, so what's the point if I'm just going to be shot down.

That's what I mean! Yes, you can copyright a certain design, but not all of them in the whole world.

Thats what I said about the Whale Koi/Giant Koi that I submitted as a Mythical Creature but, It was not added on to the list which, Peeves me off a bit. People have ben making images of those long before Road to Eldorado was even thought of. -_-
And, I can find many different art that support my idea of people making thier own versions of the same creature.

Totally different case. The Thestral was invented by Rowling. It does not exist outside her works; therefore, there ARE no other cases for anyone to call on. Her design is the only one there is for that creature, it's not an interpretation on a preexisting myth. She invented it out of whole cloth.
