Some guy at Wendy's had to help me get my drink from the fancy new machine because I totally missed the giant blue WATER button off to the side. Damned technology.

This week has gotten progressively worse for me.

Today, I had 3 parents complain to the office about me reading an inappropriate and "ungodly" book to my students.

We were reading Roald Dahl's "The Witches"
Now I don't even know if I'm going to be allowed to finish it even though we're about halfway through in 2 days. My students (as far as I know) are loving it. I ask them every day if they like it and if we should finish it. No one has protested. Yet now I have 3 moms flipping out about it being inappropriate.

They feel it's inappropriate because it "promotes witchcraft" and is giving kids nightmares. Which, if you have read the book, it's actually about a boy trying to destroy the witches in England.... not promoting anything.

And these kids, no.. they don't read any book that has magic in it.

I babysat the daughter of some Christian fundies and wasn't even allowed to say the word 'witch'. Legit, I was reading her The Little Mermaid, and when we got to Ursula, she told me to call her 'the mean old woman'.

At my first veterinary job 9 years ago, the owner's wife was anti-magic, anti-dragons, anti-Harry Potter, anti-Halloween (even a basic Jack O'lantern), etc. It was all evil. The owner bought cupcakes for a staff member's birthday - being near Halloween they had ghosts on them. She refused to eat them (same for the pumpkin cookies I brought). I mean, someone even said "try to have a good day seeing that it is Friday the 13th". Her response was "we don't believe in that kind of thing here". I wonder sometimes how insecure her beliefs really were.

Had my wallet stolen today. Although replacing the items lost won't be too big of an issue, I feel like my privacy has been violated.
