It may take months to hatch, but the wild wyvern hatchlings can fly and hunt as soon as they come out of the eggs. The hatchlings start by feeding on small things. The alasre develops a taste for bird meat, feasting on chicks and sometimes even on eggs. On the other hand, the voltarian prefers to hunt for rodents, sometimes going as far as to dig galleries for prey. Both types are terrible little creatures, cute but with a cruel temperament. They have an eye for shiny things and like to visit markets specifically to steal the most expensive ornaments. Amber trinkets form slow-growing piles of treasure in a voltarian wyvern's nest, while crystal clear jewels decorate the homes of alasre wyverns. People often leave piles of damaged jewelry for the wyverns to take in the hopes of being spared, but these creatures like chaos too much to be satisfied with just the offerings. They make sure to cause a commotion while stealing things. Only after something is damaged by their magical fire will they leave to enjoy their new capture.

Neither wurm nor dragon, the wild wyverns are a different kind of creature, violent and very imposing. They aggressively defend their territory, seeking to expand it whenever possible. They consider other wild wyverns a competition for food and act hostile towards them, rarely seeking a partner. Although they have little interest in producing offspring, new eggs appear every few years, abandoned on mountain slopes or inside glaciers. The wild wyverns come in two types, their coloration reflecting the territories they claimed. The alasre variety has white and blue scales, icicle-like thorns, and the ability to breathe frozen fire. The voltarian kind has brown and red scales, a pointy tail, and the ability to breathe fire. The two types never interact, not only because their territories are miles apart but also because they cannot stand each other. Their violent natures make them impossible to train, and even if magi have been aware of these creatures for years and attempts were made to approach them, they remain untamable.
