Filigree Cat #603

General

The magic of filigree cats develops strength slowly and only reaches its full potential a few years after adulthood. They meddle in illusory magic, a skill which they use to create the ever-changing filigree-like designs on their skin. As a result these fine-boned, muscular felines are often mistaken for statues when sitting still. In Synara, filigree cats are often adorned with real jewelry. Perhaps most valued, though, is their communication. Filigree cats cannot speak human language, but they communicate through the shimmering pictures they conjure up. Magi at the keep have deciphered this "language" and the cats now find many uses as messengers. The color of the magic seems to have meaning as well, with bright colors representing safety and dark colors meaning danger.

Egg

This bicolored egg has a few bright markings.

Hatchling

These very wrinkly little kittens are quite full of life. They scamper about the Keep seeking out as many playmates as possible and their joyous personalities can rouse even the grumpiest of creatures. Like most cats, they love to perch in high places - shelves, cabinets, and their magi's shoulders are favorites. Unlike many cats, however, they have a great love of water and will readily leap into pools and lakes to swim. As they have no pelt except a thin layer of downy fur, they must be bathed regularly.

Adult

It is nearly impossible to escape the notice of a filigree cat. Their large ears and eyes give them superior sight and hearing, allowing them to notice even light footsteps as students sneak about after lights out. The cats themselves, on the other hand, are masters of wandering unseen. Padding around on silent feet and changing color to match day and night, these cats often escape the notice of magi, although they never seem to miss a chance to leap into a lap and demand to be petted. Filigree cats are friendly by nature, but a small piece of cheese will gain their affections forever.
